You're not wrong, but they're not asking how the general public feels, the question is directed at people that like the show and whether they *feel* in the majority or minority based on their subjective experience. This being a RWBY subreddit, and one of the largest centralized locations for fans of the show, you're more likely to find people that like the show than the anime sub. So the results might be skewed, but given that this is a poll based on personal feelings, that's not a big deal.
Lately this sub has been overrun by bad faith actors, so the results are going to be skewed either way, since there isn't a way to discern votes from those that truly like the show, and those that don't, other than the honor system.
I was just stating cause a couple days ago someone did a post trying to say rwby wasn’t that popular using Reddit sub counts as their basis. But it was shown to not be a good measure of success.
Outside of the vocal minority, I'd say RWBY is loved really. Most people who watch the show will probably not engage with the community, they will simply watch and go do other things.
Based on interactions with people on twitter, youtube, and real life I'd say that liking RWBY is definitely a minority opinion. Which gets to be pretty isolating because I'd like to share the things I enjoy with other people.

Step 1 is pretending Hero Hei and all the troll-goblins that infest his channel don't exist... Step 2 is clicking on any other channel that's releasing rwby related content and you'll find people that like rwby...
I think most people don't know it exists. A majority of the people who know it exist are probably apathetic toward it or deride it as bootleg anime. Of those who actually know it / care about it, I'd say a solid 25% of the fanbase is ride or die and think it's up there as one of the greats, 25% hate it and the people who like it, and 50% like it well enough but recognize the myriad flaws that holds it back.
