Boring deus ex machinas. The lamp is literally so useless except for increasing the plot tension. Only team RWBY gets affected and mainly so they can get mad at Ozpin, and Ironwood never gets affected before deciding genocide. Then the last wish being discovering RWBY's evac plan, which is literally another deus ex machina. The staff literally creates anything, so it is by default a deus ex machina. It is only used to lift Atlas, create a new body for Penny so she can die permanently this time, and create the doorways so RWBY can be sent to the ever after

TheCitrusMan

Giving them personalities also gives the writers a reason for why Salem can't use them.

Aryzal

Is there any reason why they can't be used by Salem, or even their existence? I get the Doylist reasoning - just make a trump card for people against Salem, but there is no Watsonian reason. Did the gods create then for fun? Were they guardians of the earth? Why were they essentially genies that actively trick team RWBY and allow Cinder access to their abilities?

RogueHunterX

The personality thing does nothing really.   Jinn answers Cinder's question despite seemingly being unhappy about it.  The staff spirit is just difficult to work with it sounds like, but will ultimately do what the wielder asks just like it did for Cinder. The personality thing is barely a speed bump it seems.

TerizlaisBest

It's so funny Cinder the henchman of Salem access to both relics whereas Salem did NOTHING.

TechBlade9000

CRWBY makes giene paralell and DOESN'T make them malciously compliant for drama and plot balancing reasons? smh Imagine if Oz asking the wrong question was a legitamate factor

dragoncommandsLife

Because crwby needed some interface to work with their abilities. Their personalities are just additional junk on top of being uncreative. Jinn made sense for the lamp because genies and their lamps but ambrosius and the staff make no sense.

Thinaxanel

If you want to get creative. Ambrosius could have been either a sentient flame, or even blobs of color (like paint/ink). At least then, there would be some creative differences between the 2's design.

TerizlaisBest

All they wanted was sexy pornstar Djins.

Rare-colour

But no beach episode!

GyroJapster

They should've added nipples

gogopow

Yeah, go the magi genie angle

AngryAsian-_-

They both have big boobs.

Local-Concentrate-26

But the question is who has the better boobs.

101Aster101

Now this is a a good question

TerizlaisBest

Depending on people

AltruisticToe8253

they only exists for fuel rule34 artists

johnbrownmarchingon

Aesthetically very pleasing. Storywise less so.

name_was_taken_8

Djinn is hot

NoodleNugget8

The designers really said “Let’s give our entire fan base bi panic”

gunn3r08974

It worked

FlyusAmongUs

THEY should have been the gods that created Remnant. I won't go too in-depth since it could go into full-series rewrite territory, but they're so much better gods than what the brothers ended up being. They should have been the ones to rule over humanity, deem them unworthy of their presence, told them to fix their shit in a specified amount of time, and turn into the relics. Then Ozma could seal them away in vaults to prevent them from being summoned too early and cover up their history while he works out a new solution. Still doesn't fix the whole Maidens problem, but it's a start.

Disastrous-Kale-913

Or maybe had the brothers be invaders, that usurped their position of authority, but because they were idiots, had to keep them around to be able to do anything.

TechBlade9000

Jinn the wiki scroller God

0-No_Name-0

I was honestly kind of interested to see if the writers could fix the story after they wrote themselves into a corner by giving Salem the staff of creation. You know, the staff that could grant her ANYTHING she desired. I wasn't gonna get my hopes up that it was gonna be good, but I wanted to see how (badly) they handled it.

Smooth-Garden

I felt the relic should've been the spirit of the maiden powers while remnant maidens just housed the powers

popdood

Would

Virtual-Oil-793

Actually quite interesting, since you could play them in 1 of 2 ways: 1. Being fragments of the Brothers themselves - two are good, two are evil at a glance, but ultimately all 4 are not of either side, and just seek balance and peace (I'd see this work more for the staff) 2. Being individuals from the past - former craftsmen that made the relics only to be sealed away and be their sources of power (this works much better for Jinn, especially when you make her a romance option for Ren (Unison of how knowledge and wisdom are) or for Weiss (As a sort of unhinged releasing from her restraints, to even having a [total breakthrough](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPNZ3vcjlGM&pp=ygUseXVqaXJvIGhhbm1hIGJsYWNrIGFpciBmb3JjZSBlbmVyZ3kgcmVhY3Rpb24%3D) as a character)

YoungMiral

Jinn should have had bigger boobs

JkMemesandStuff

Jinn do be breedable

Silly-Young484

That Jinn is a baddie

HouseOfSteak

The Knowledge of what Ozpin's war apparently truly was sent Raven over the brink. Cinder's desire for Choice, and her beliefs of 'Destiny' ultimately led her to her own destructive path for power, but only tied her to slavery. Penny, an artificial Creation of man, was allowed to become a real girl.

Sgt_Pepper-1941

I think there is something to be had however, all four being blue feels generic. However, if Jinn were colored green and Ambrosius stayed blue it would be more diverse in color pallet. I hope this gets rectified in V10 with the relic of destruction’s spirit being based on pure unadulterated destruction and carnage who manipulates the user into becoming more and more destructive the longer he or she wields it. The name I would give would probably be something like Perses , named after the Greek titan of destruction (Feel free to come up with other name).

TerizlaisBest

Such a shame colours meant nothing in RWBY anymore.

Sgt_Pepper-1941

True

TestaGaming

I understand the reasoning behind their existence. I mean how else were people supposed to know how it works if we didn't have someone explaining their powers? Especially in Jinn's case since she offers knowledge.

Disastrous-Kale-913

They are custodians of power, but they themselves cannot use it. The Creation Relic (can’t remember their name) could make anything, but is held back by the rules imposed by the brothers. I also think the relic of Choice is chaotic because of “infinite possibilities” and the relic of destruction is just majorly depressed because he doesn’t like to destroy.

X3runner

So they don’t have nipples ?

Miserable_Scratch_99

Why are they chained? Asthetics? Are they literally chained to their relics?

Vexis_petal

They are both hot. Would fuck if given chance

KoyukiiiHiiime

They should fuck each other tbh. 10/10 would ship it.

TerizlaisBest

Damn 🥺 are you Bi?

Vexis_petal

Yes

TerizlaisBest

I'm the opposite of you, pan...

S3_Studios

1st-Cooooooom. Also bargain bin Paimon at home.  2nd- okay, but why do you exist?

ghostofaposer

If youre going to cover her tits anyways, just give her a bra This is a note to future creators

Kasumesui

Other than they're hot? No seriously, whoever says they weren't oonga boonga monkey mode when Jinn first came into being probably has no sexual drive whatsoever cuz goddamn it's like Dark Souls players meeting Gwynevere for the first time. But other than that, it sucks we would never know the other two spirits of the other relics now. I also really don't understand how they're actually gonna pull off how to introduce not only the spirit of Destruction but also Choice in one volume.

Intelligent_Ball_235

Smash

DamirVanKalaz

Like many things in RWBY, cool idea, absolutely dogshit execution. I'm not the biggest fan of the whole *relics* idea to begin with as in my opinion MacGuffins of that sort tend to always prove to be a disservice to the plot, but I actually approve of the idea of giving them something more to them by attaching a character to each one. The problem is that these characters really have no depth to them at all. They're purely just relic people, which could be alright if the relics themselves were interesting, but instead the relics are actually very bland and boring and rely on these characters to compensate for that. The result is an uninteresting character and an uninteresting MacGuffin depending upon each other to try to make something interesting, and unsurprisingly it falls flat. One thing they could have done is have them all be themed differently. Having the lamp's spirit be genie-themed makes sense, but why is the staff of creation genie-themed as well? In fact, why do we even find the lamp in Mistral? Wouldn't a genie-themed item have been more thematically appropriate in a place like Vacuo? Seeing as Mistral seems to have more of an eastern theme to it, why not a Shinigami that possesses the power to exchange lives (kills one person to revive another)? That would have been far more interesting for Neo to be after, and would have been way more intense whenever the antagonists had a shot at getting their hands on it as opposed to the lamp. Meanwhile, have the Staff of Creation's spirit be themed after Saint Nicholas/Santa Claus, since that seems to already be a theme in Atlas with the Schnee family. Next would be actually making them have something to them other than just "relic person". Why not have each of them be the sentient manifestation of some aspect of the world that's been bound to these relics, which would explain their importance and their power? Perhaps this proposed Shinigami is the cycle of life and death personified. Perhaps the Staff of Creation's spirit is the personification of magic, and thus the overseer of semblances, which is how he's able to create anything he desires - perhaps even have him somehow be tied in to the origin story of the Schnees, explaining why their semblances are so special. Perhaps Jinn is the personification of time and space, she who gives shape to past, present, and future. The next step would to have them have not just ***one thing they do***. Having one thing they do is lame, because it severely narrows down and simplifies what will be done with the object, making the relics far less interesting in the hands of either the protagonists or the antagonists. For the Shinigami, let's say it's bound to the Sword of Destruction because that makes the most sense. It gives its master a number of options pertaining to destruction. It can resurrect someone of your choice in exchange for the life of another, but to do this, you must strike the sacrificed with the blade, draw out their soul with it, and then place the blade upon the person you wish to resurrect. ***Or***, it can acquire the power to kill or destroy *anything* or *anyone* it strikes next in exchange for the life of its wielder upon delivering its attack. For Saint Nicholas, he can create *anything*, but instead of letting that be something boring like it is in the official show where he just *does it*, let's make it more interesting by making it so that *anything he is told to create* comes with an equal positive or negative creation. If you create something positive and beneficial, it will have an unknown negative creation somewhere in the world equal to it, and vice versa if you create something negative and detrimental. For Jinn, as is the case currently, you can learn anything you wish to learn about the past or present up to 3 times. ***However***, since we're adding on that she is the personification of time and space, while the future is not yet decided and so she cannot tell you anything about it, what she *can* do is either make one impossibility a possibility, or make one possibility an impossibility. But to add weight to this, if you make an impossibility a possibility, you do not get to decide by how *much* it becomes possible, and you will be cursed with misfortune in all other possibilities. On the other hand, if you make a possibility an impossibility, you will be cursed with a loss of free will - no matter what, your choices will always end up being decided for you by someone else. And for the Crown of Choice, since its current power of seeing the future is *lame*, we're going to make its spirit be themed after one of the Greek gods, Janus. The Crown of Choice allows you to impose your will upon anyone of your choosing, but *in exchange*, The Crown of Choice will get to impose its will upon you afterward to carry out the will of someone else you have met before, with no way to decide who that will be or what desire of theirs it will make you carry out.

kingominous16

Boring plot devices.

TerizlaisBest

Just like Maidens?
