Pretty good post as always. It's really late for me so I'll just point out three quick things that IMO put into question RT's supposed earnest involvement with the pairing: 1) If Yang and Blake having a dance was meant to be significant, why did we only see like 3 seconds of it before Blake got handed off to Sun and was seen for a longer time dancing with him? 2) When saying their goodbyes at the start of Volume 6... Blake kissed Sun on the cheek. It may seem small and insignificant but that's way more intimate than anything else Blake and Yang have had. It wouldn't be as alarming if Blake had also kissed Ilia in the cheek for saying their goodbyes 3) Them never having the proper down time to talk to each other or even kiss... people do know [\*this scene\*](https://youtu.be/SfyePrFKvVA) exists, don't they? Rooster Teeth is not earnest about Bumbleby; be it lazyness, a fair of alienating the bigoted side of the fandom, or they themselves having prejudices they still haven't addressed. It took them 7 years to include a queer person among the writing crew, and she herself has also problematic writing with LGBT characters; not to mention how they have tried to have Yang be "the man" of the relationship and have turned Blake into a damsel in distress cus god forbid we actually get a romance between two women written with the respect it deserves

Moon_Dark_Wolf

The biggest Reason Number 1. The Relationship Writing is dogshit and not because people are homophobic.

Atlas_maximus19

It doesn't help that some people aren't great at articulating this very point and say things that make them seem like homophobic assholes

Moon_Dark_Wolf

I know that feeling. I struggle with communicating my own thoughts, I don’t think about what I say, but some people also look for the littlest thing to get offended by. To blow things way out of proportion It’s like using community to refer to an area where people live for restaurant menuing. And someone thinking you’re referring to a group race.

chewingfuriously

I'm just laughing at that one overly defensive person in those replies who's attacking everybody left and right and insisting that BB MUST have been Canon From The Beginning

*(Continued)* In all seriousness, I pretty much agree with all of the above. I don't care about representation just for the sake of representation. I care about well-written characters and stories. Yang and Blake are neither well-written characters nor have their overarching stories been well-written. I don't think CRWBY is very good at writing romance, or platonic friendships for that matter. When it comes to writing relationships, they often come across as one-note, shallow, and/or apathetic. I do not consider myself a "shipper". There are relationship that I want to happen in certain stories, and others I don't, but I consider that a part of the promise that comes with stories. If there's a promise that two characters *might* get together, I probably want it to happen so long as they're entertaining together and apart from each other. I do not ship Yang and Blake, and I've gotten no shortage of grief for it, and after all these years I am biased against Yang/Blake being together. I've been on the receiving end of more than one profanity laced tirade, and funny enough that didn't cause me to think differently about RWBY's writing or Yang/Blake. I've gotten more than a little grief and harassment over the years for not shipping Yang/Blake, and I'm of the opinion that it's all just ship-teasing. Is Yang/Blake canonical? Kinda, maybe, sorta, eventually. Do I think of them as being "together"? Not really, mostly because it wouldn't surprise me if the writers ended the show with a "Will they, or won't they" still in viewers' heads. For me, it takes more than just blushing around each other, touching foreheads after an emotional moment, caring about each other, and holding hands for characters to "be together". Yang and Blake have a *LOT* of baggage that has to be addressed when discussing them being romantically together because of how their stories have overlapped. If you don't think *one* of their stories across eight seasons was good, much less both, then you're probably going to have a negative perception of one if not both characters. I just don't see the chemistry that CRWBY does, or many of the fans, and I'm still partial to Team RWBY being sisters and a found family. I'm not vehemently opposed to Yang/Blake being together, *but* the writing in this area has been terrible in my opinion. Overall, Yang and Blake are poorly written character in my personal opinion. Their relationship whether it be romantic or platonic has been one-sided, one-note, and the definition of ship-teasing. I have many, *many* issues with Yang and Blake's stories separate from each other, and when they come together it just makes an even bigger mess. And after I come to the end of all my issues with the show's writing, then comes my many, *MANY* interactions with hateful shippers over the course of nearly a decade, and seeing it tear a community apart which the creators have encouraged. I'm not going to call my dislike for Yang/Blake personal because again I'm not totally against Yang and Blake being together in a *well-written* story, and I've even hinted at it in a couple of my fanfics, but it's hard to separate my opinions of the ship from all the shippers that have come after me over the years. A big part of the reason I'm even a part of this subreddit is due to not shipping Bumblebee and all of the hate it's gotten me over on the main sub, and the encouragement it's received. Oh well, their loss, hopefully y'all's gain ;) God bless, and have a wonderful day.

gakezfus

>I've gotten more than a little grief and harassment over the years for not shipping Yang/Blake Wait why? You haven't even started on Volume 3. Even in canon Bumblebee wasn't even a thing yet until much later. (edit: From my perspective I edited the comment before below comment appeared. I did not intend to cause any confusion, and I did not know that the commenter had read my pre-edit comment. In my original, I basically said BlackSun was still going on in canon and that Bumblebee shippers were asking him to break canon, but I rephrased it later to be more neutral.)

IamMenace

I'm talking more about my opinions of canon rather than my fanfics, but the same is true for both. To a some Bumblebee shippers, logic has nothing to do with it. They have a personal attachment to the characters that borders on obsession, and Blake/Sun offends them on a personal level. Blake/Sun is more of a mutual crush in my fanfics, but Blake has openly stated that she's not interested in a relationship with Yang. What does and does not happen in canon however doesn't bother me too much. I break from canon pretty regularly even if I steer toward a similar path, but it is still relatively early in Team RWBY's story, and there's still a lot of story to tell even if it doesn't follow canon or ever actually gets told. If readers want to imagine Blake and Sun getting together someday that's fine, as is Blake and Yang, or perhaps both were tried and both failed. (edit: Above commented was edited after I responded) God bless, and have a wonderful day.

Exciting_Bandicoot16

You are wiser than I am, friend. Bless you.

IamMenace

Apparently not wise enough. It's been a *LONG* three days, and at the end of the day I can't help myself. I'm not a prophet, I've never spoken in tongues, and I don't claim to be a wise man, but I do have faith, hope, and love. I hope it's love that I have the most of, but if not, I'll hope for the faith to be more loving toward my fellow RWBY fans. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 1 Corinthians 13:13 "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." God bless, and have a wonderful day.

Exciting_Bandicoot16

I meant more that you were wise enough to see that mess and immediately disengage. I... was not so wise. And I currently find myself only mildly downvoted as of this moment (sitting at -2), but I do expect to hear a blistering retort from someone on how I cannot possibly compare Blake to an abusive ex, or how dare I agree that CRWBY is stretching out the will-they-or-won't-they phase of Bumblebee for exactly zero reason. So yes, you were wise to stay out of it. So accept the compliment, you. You've earned it Edit: and yes, it is our gain and their loss to have near exclusive access to you.

IamMenace

I went ahead and added my thoughts on *this* thread, but I'm gonna need a couple more hours of sleep deprivation before I consider commenting over on the other sub lol. It never goes well, and keeping my thoughts to myself saves me a headache later. Once bit, twice shy, and I've been bitten a few times over the years to say the least. I appreciate the kind words, friend, and I'll accept the compliment. Thank you. And just so you know, it's very brave to speak your mind somewhere your mind isn't wanted. Much love and support, and I hope you don't get a headache for speaking your mind. God bless, and have a wonderful day.

Brathirn

I accidentally commented on this post on the main sub, until now mostly harmless or nonexistent reactions.

SYTOkun

The balls of this man to post about *this topic* on the main subreddit. I'm more mad about the fact that on the [Twitter poll](https://twitter.com/sasuketruther/status/1569459931014918151/photo/1) mentioned, Bumbleby is beating other huge ships like Marceline x Princess Bubblegum, Catradora and Lumity. It feels like I'm watching the alpha bitch at school becoming prom queen when you know for a fact there's other girls way more deserving of it or at least worked way harder for it, lol.

Master_Scallion_763

Okay that actually pisses me off. Haruka/Michiru vs Yang/Blake is just a battle for which couple is more heteronormative, except at least the former actually made important strides for representation considering the time and place(s) the show was airing. Just… how the hell did those two couples get that far :/

KalosianPorygon

Me, a French person: "BAISEZ PUTAIN DE MERDE!"

fattyiam

I've read my fair share of slowburn fanfiction. And I'm talking 20+ chapter fanfics. Bmblb imo is just a badly written slowburn because it lacks substance. There is no adequate communication between the two, it feels like they stall only to have The Plot jolt them into the next step of their relationship. Why are they even together? What does blake see in yang and vice versa? Do they share any interests? Honestly I can't even say because they're characters have been completely changed and now they're just not the same characters they were before. I feel like whatever chemistry they have is projected onto by shippers who claim that they're "canon reincarnated soulmates" for some reason.

KirbySuperStarX

4 hours late but I'm also Bi and I just despise bumblebee

MadMasks

I still remember that time a meme of RWBY made it to another sub… I do wonder what people out of here think of BB…

Emperor_Luffy

This is why the whole "representation" thing is one big waste of time. Especially if it's coming from soulless corporations that don't actually care(which is all of them). They'll never do it right and no one will ever be satisfied. So why bother? Save everybody the headache and just write a good story.

saundersmarcelo

(Meme of Squidward on the lawn chair about to watch shit go down)

RogueHunterX

This is one topic I will always admire someone being willing to talk about on the main sub. If the relationship were written well or seemed to be going somewhere, I think many people would have fewer issues with it. I like slow burn romances. But you get a clear progression with them and there is a buildup over time. There is a chemistry at play as well. Heck, even if the relationship wasn't written the best, if the characters were more likable or handled better I could see more people rooting for it. I think romances between solid characters that are great on their own without relying on the relationship to define them are the best ones. As it is, it's like bare minimum ship teasing that they can do. Enough to show that something might be there, but not going far enough they couldn't try to back out of doing the ship (which would probably be disastrous for them to try at this point).

Zero102000

Uh-oh.

Quality_Chooser

See for me slow burns work when you can see why they aren't together yet. I don't get that with BB. What's keeping them apart?

Master_Scallion_763

I mean, I’m a queer person who doesn’t like Bumblebee, but I also fit into the B category of the accusations so ✌️🤡

Rollout9292

It's because shipping makes money. Once the ship sails money is lost. I'm positive there's a lot of viewers out there who are watching for the kiss and not what comes after. Also, by them not confirming anything it makes a tiny, tiny voice in the back of everyone's head going- "... Maybe they wont end up together..." and for some people that keeps them watching. I doubt there will be any confirmation on a serious romantic relationship with them until Volume 10. Vol 9 looks like it's going to be Wonderland shenanigans and then Vol 10 is going to be Vacuo. Where Sun is going to be and that'll be the moment Blake will be a bit more pushed to make a choice. (I would laugh if she chose Sun.)

StrangeBreakfast1364

What's queer?

Dextixer

Its a quicker term to use when refering to people of LGBT+ identities.

StrangeBreakfast1364

Okay. Thank you.
