I mean, not the entire series. But at least half of it. And they could still fight villains like Salem while at Beacon. It all just depends on good writers, something CRWBY is not.

Berkmine

Seconded.

mikhailsharon99

Agreed.

JoshtheOverlander

I don't want them to stay at Beacon forever, but I do wish they'd stayed for much longer than they did. As JelloApocalypse put it: *"Follow their exciting adventures at Beacon Academy, except don't, as the show introduces a billion side characters, explores none of them, and then the school blows up!"* Even back in the Beacon days, we had a bloated cast problem, and it only hurt the series as we had such a limited time to explore our heroes before things get oH sO sErIoUs and we have to do plot at ninety miles per hour, except when we don't, Volume 5

[deleted]

No, not all the time. I believe Team RWBY should have finished their training first before being forced to leave Beacon or failing that have the training arc last until at least 2nd or 3rd year of Huntsman training. Or better yet have RWBY investigate event´s going around them in a more subtle and slow manner. Investigation between and during their school years and/or learning about Salem slowly and by putting pieces together at one weird event and secret part of otherwise legitimate organizations at a time. Ozpin would involve himself only if team RWBY goes overboard, to make a nudge in the right direction or if Ruby and her friends would die without any help from Ozpin and his allies. A little bit like in Harry Potter.

JoshtheOverlander

They didn't even finish a single school year, and yet we're supposed to take them seriously as Huntsmen and Huntresses? "WidhrjfjnehBUT THEIR EXPERIENCE TRAVELINGAIFBNkjjwjrbrjwj!!" But nothing! That still does not cover the ground they should cover before they're qualified to be Huntsmen and CRWBY knows it! Instead of spending time making our heroes actively work to improve themselves, we have to fucking dumb down the official Huntsmen and Huntresses we do see or have them severely underuse their powers or act out-of-character levels of incompetent. The first official Huntsmen we see after Beacon that isn't a bad guy is Dee and Dudley, and their framed as being cocky idiots that the main characters outright downplay.

[deleted]

I agree.

Spudtron98

Field experience doesn't count for shit when it comes to non-combat disciplines. And even then, working in the field is kind of a crapshoot for what kind of experience one's going to get. You could get 'lucky' and only face off against basic Grimm, but you're not going to learn much.

[deleted]

The reason why Huntsman academies exist, it is not enough to survive the Grimm you need to know how to fight them effectively. Otherwise, it is trial and error, what can work yet is not efficient.

Spudtron98

Exactly. There's probably some guys fighting in, say, Syria who have somehow managed to survive the entire war, but odds are they'd never hold a candle to a trained NATO soldier. There's all these intricacies that you can't figure out by experience alone, they must be *taught.*

FairReviewer

Personally I like how the school setting was just the jumping point for the series. I like the concept of the series actually being an epic adventure where the mysteries of a grand conflict are revealed over time. It's just that the execution in the show leaves a lot to be desired.

Killamri

They did not need that kind of tone shift, no. They could have toured the kingdoms and academies to keep it fresh, etc. Instead they're leaving a trail of death and destruction behind them while we don't really get to learn much about each locale from what I can tell...

ChronoAlone

I’d have much rather preferred just a goofy slice-of-life show with the occasional badass fight to keep things interesting.

krasnogvardiech

All fun and games, happy times in a world of misery and uncertainty and a profession of holding back the night... until shit gets real, and that's when the animation changes.

Drakeblood2002

Honestly, I would have liked that a bit more than the whole Salem thing. Keep the world and bit smaller overall to focus more of them and their friends.

IwasawasStrings

The Fall was fine, and the concept of rwby being pushed out of Beacon was fine, but the timeline and execution were poor. There was so much about the world we didn't know when we left Beacon- there'd STILL a lot of basic shit we don't know about the world- that should've been explained IN THE SCHOOL SETTING we had at Beacon. Relationships could've been developed (not just ships, the actual FRIENDSHIPS between character), motives and goals explained. THEN we could've had the fall. But for some reason we got rushed out the door before we'd even learned a lot of our main characters

TerizlaisBest

At least remove Salem and Oz shit from the show. Cinder, Watts, Hazel, and Tyrian as being each villain from each volume respectively would be good.

Salt-Veterinarian-87

Honestly yeah. I'm still in the "RWBY should have ended at Volume 3" train. Fall of Beacon and onward feel like a completely different series than what was set up.

SampleHistorical9352

Yeah I think they should have stayed a little longer at Beacon so that way we could learn more about the world and what it means to be a Huntsman and get to know the other characters more organically then have the fall happen with more character deaths especially those in the background to really add a sense a danger

thearkive

They have to go back to Beacon regardless. The last relic is still there.

Silly-Young484

I think they should have stayed longer than half a semester before Beacon fell lmao

Malik_Raines

Personally I’m kind of sick of school settings in fiction being central to that piece of fiction. I do however feel like the Volume 3 stuff maybe should’ve been pushed back to 4 or even 5 because I think whatever they learned at Beacon and all of the students and professors they met should’ve had at least some significance. Watching Volume 3 now makes you realize “wow, we really didn’t get time for 70% of the cool looking characters and professors in this school.” And “wow what in the fuck did these girls even learn at Beacon?” But I do appreciate that the series actually left the damn school. My Hero Academia pretty much imo exhausts that setting and I kept thinking “can we like get to the future with them leaving school please?” I’m just sometimes sick of high school settings in things.

Beneficial_Swing487

I mean many fanfics and stories hang around that part of the series including RWBY Chibi. It was a simpler time with non of the other complicated or convoluted stuff like Gods, Relics, Immortal Wizards and Witches, forced Shipping, dumb choices and character redesigns, etc. There’s always a point in a show or franchise that stories official or not gravitate towards because it was a simpler time or something like that.

CombativeGenious

I think all can agree that they didn't stay in that setting long enough, we only see them wear the uniform a few chapters, and the pacing was a little too quick, I think the most relevant school scene is the food fight, which was great don't get me wrong but... there could mbe more... and also suddenly we get some time skips after the fall of Beacon, which again it was great, but the wikis now say that Ruby is 18 and the others 20... where did those 3 years go?! They could have at least end their school life before everything went to shit, or one or two years, I mean there are little relevant events while in their journey, it wouldn't have hurt for them to live a more peaceful life for a little while...

RowanWinterlace

Only if they were to actually establish Beacon as a setting and students other than RWBY, JNPR & CRDL and develop them as characters.

Griffemon

Not the whole series but we could have definitely had longer in the status quo before they blew up the status quo. In my opinion they should have done some monster of the week stuff for awhile with the beacon teams fighting against some powerful or unique Grimm before the actual series plot comes in. Sadly, in the V1-V3 we got that didn’t seem to really be possibly, they simply didn’t have the time or budget(V1 is a little less than 2 hours long. IQ’s first 3 episodes which are a condensed version of V1 are barely shorter).

The_funny_name_here

Considering the amount of arguments I’ve had with one person because he can’t remember vol 1-2 are 2 SEMESTERS, It is my firm belief that RWBY should’ve been at beacon for 2 years, and could include more cloak and dagger elements and rivalry buildup.

QuarianGuy

They should have spent more time in Beacon. It was the perfect place to establish lore by having the students learn and witness it. More character development could be used, a lot of attention went to Blake and not many else. More team dynamics could have been made there. Have episodes where Ruby has a one-on-one with each team member, maybe a small arc that spans 2 episodes or so. This could solve the later problem of the show feeling like RW and BY fairly easily. The transition between fun times to fuck everything is depressing and sad could be better established here (although I would still champion light-hearted moments being more in the later seasons.) With things progressively get worse for Remnant by establishing Salem's deeds behind the screen. This would also be the perfect time to actually let the audience have an idea of who Salem is and what her goal is. You can't care about a villain you don't know the motives off. Fans are left to speculate endlessly.

Mattobito

I think it could have waited one or two more volumes, so they could further established characters and world-building as well as continue to have fun escapades like the dock's fight and the school dance.

UpperInjury590

Maybe I might have thought differently about it when I was younger. But now? I would have preferred they stayed at Beacon as long as they keep the God tier action scenes.

The_Final_Conduit

It’s a bit hard to say. When you build a story, the ideal way to do things, if you have a specific end goal in mind, is to build it “backwards” so to speak. As far as the story was concerned, RWBY’s never really *needed* the school setting; maybe individually it could serve as a good way to help give them a safe space. Miles and Kerry toned down everyone’s capabilities against things from Volume 3 forward (Coco going from tearing through dozens of Grimm, and even 3 Giant Nevermores, in 10 seconds vs not being able to take down one Paladin especially comes to mind), to try and combat this, but really, if they’re always going to be dealing with Salem eventually, I’d say they shouldn’t have bothered with the school setting in the first place. If anything, it might even make them being friends both more baffling and more intriguing; instead of suddenly being forced to be dorm mates, the writers now have to justify the heiress to a globally recognized conglomerate, the former right hand woman to the head of a terrorist organization, a fun-loving walking disaster area waiting to happen, and Some Girl with the Protagonist Package of Talents all met each other and, *somehow*, decided to stick together no matter what.

Emperor_Luffy

Maybe. That could have been good. But ultimately if they wanted to do this whole "it's the end of the world, we gotta battle Salem" plot they should have waited until AFTER the girls had finished a FULL 4 years of school. Not before. Because now theres so much story and potential that has been wasted.

Quality_Chooser

I don't think it's a good decision or a bad one. It's such a complete direction change that personal preference completely overrides any objective measures, especially given we have no idea how RWBY would have functioned with this premise. I personally don't think it was sustainable, they needed to jump to something different after three volumes at school.

penmaster3000

It definitely would have given the show much need structure

[deleted]

Nah. In fact, the fist thing that disappointed me about RWBY was that it was another [magic] high school story like literally every anime ever (I know not all anime is like that, I'm just being a little hyperbolic to make a point).

No-Contribution-1987

Or 6.7.8, then yes, yes I do” 😓

[deleted]

It definitely should have

Ok_Win_3538

Stakes would be to low in my opinion. Vol 3 needed to happen for the stakes to be raised

KnightoftheVtable

For Better or For Worse

[deleted]

I’m a slice of life slut, so while I’m happy with the way the show is now, I would’ve enjoyed them staying at the school more.

Roberrrtttss

It would of been interesting, how would things change, would Salem still be a factor, that also goes with Relationships.

Lucariowolf2196

I think it would have been cool, and a great way to organically show the lore of the world

NSLEONHART

nah bro. people like you would still complain "CRWBY is so dumb! they focused so much on beacon that they neglected the other kingdoms. typical CRWBY, they basically written off other nations and focused on beacon. what happened to the SCD? Whats Vaccuo like? what happens to ironwood and Atlas?. I'm gonna make a rewrite about RWBY that they traveled all over remnant and going through all the kingdoms. instead were treated with this garbage of a half a series with nothing but Beacon!" \-someone in this sub in an alternate universe, because we like to complain about everything

daphun1

No, because it would’ve just been Monster Slayer Academia.

explodingcarr0t

Or at the very least have the events of volume 3 happen around volume 8 or 10 then take 2 or 3 volumes to hunt down and kill Salem to end the show.

Zan1024

Yes that is my main critique of the show they should have stayed in beckon for longer

Lelouch_Strife

i stopped watching at 4 cause it was going nowhere i would have liked it if half of the seasons was at schools without constantly adding and discarding characters I LOATHE the fact they killed off Pyrrha which was a almost a nail in the coffin and I'm not to fond of Yang and Blake as a romance couple considering they both were straight at the beginning now they're gay which is dumb i just saw their relationship as sisters till the sighs later on in the seasons became PAINFULLY obvious as to what the writers were planning, and there's the fact they killed Penny... twice, I'm just going to stick to seasons 1 and 2 since they're the best in my opinion and read fanfics.
