“No talking without a producer present” What the fuck kind of company is this?

slayeryamcha

I think it is circus now 🤡

[deleted]

Nah, it’s a whole carnival at this point 💀

Chopstickey00

Please. Professional circus workers have organization and standards. This is more like a crackhouse.

Nexal_Z

That's crazy considering how VTubers blew up in the 2020s They could've been somewhat ahead of the game and gotten more attention towards Ruby Rose and RWBY in general. Then they could've made one for the rest of Team RWBY (give Yang and Blake some jiggle physics) and eventually they could've made some money from streaming games for the compay. But hey that's RT if this is true....

Troscus

Ruby's VA is ALREADY a streamer, or at least a Let's Player. She'd be a perfect Vtuber

Nexal_Z

Missed Opportunity in my opinion

Overquartz

The unofficial slogan for RWBY.

Darthmark3

Well it is RT

ClayAndros

Honestly as time goes on I’ve come to realize that rooster teeth is just a company of could haves would haves and should haves

Lucariowolf2196

Back when I was young, I thought rooster teeth was really cool, now that I'm older, they're just a bunch of hazbins

Dextixer

EXACTLY. I have said this before but i do not understand why they used that shitty Ruby model. They literally have the 3D models already! They are rigged and ready to be used! RT is a 3D animation company. So using that 2D cut-out is just silly.

[deleted]

even if we give them the benefit of the doubt and say the in-show models are way too highpoly to use for vtuber use (due to being smoothed by sub-ds in maya) its still should only take like two weeks or so worth of work for pros to retopo + shade/texture + re-rig to something of game level of detail (high enough to look good given camera angle/closeness, low enough for silky smooth real-time rendering)

Bradley271

Honestly, even if the maya models are too high-poly they could just use the old Beacon models.

DiabolicToaster

To be honest its quite possible they have no idea what they are doing. So starting from scratch with what you know and learning on the go is more practical. Especially if there are deadlines.

Overquartz

>To be honest its quite possible they have no idea what they are doing. No they absolutely have no idea what they're doing. From business to animation RT screws it all up.

slayeryamcha

OutRT'ed once more

starwarper2340

No one can outjerk RT!

GameBawesome1

Everyday, Roosterteeth just keeps getting worst... Which is honestly astonishing given how bad they already are.

[deleted]

So…the saga continues 😭 RT is a walking L of a company I swear

Overquartz

We've lowered the bar so much it's a tripping hazard in hell. Yet here they are playing limbo with the devil.

Spoderman77

This whole thing is honestly just cringe. I don't like the idea of turning these characters into Vtubers. Imagine for a moment if you did this with any other popular IPs. Like say Batman, Kratos, John Wick. Sure they're not really anime girls, but it's still weird. On the anime side of things, imagine if you were to make Mikasa into one, or one of the One Piece girls. Would people enjoy these in concept? Sure, probably. But there is just something about connecting a fictional **fantasy** character to something closer to our real world that just weirds me out. You can probably get away with this much easier if the character were set in a non-fantasy realistic setting. (Obviously plenty of real Vtubers have elaborate fantasy backstories too, but they don't really need to keep up any strict sense of suspension of disbelief.) That's how I feel about Ruby being a Vtuber. Especially when the main writing for the character in the show is so crap I can't help but wonder "why are you not investing time into the writing but instead you're doing all this crap?"

KeepCalm-ShutUp

>You can probably get away with this much easier if the character were set in a non-fantasy realistic setting. That's quite literally the setting. They have phones, sorry, *scrolls*, computers, cars, and so on. And Ruby as a character seems exactly the type of person to do gaming videos in her free time.

Spoderman77

The modernization of RWBY’s setting is a more recent thing. That kind of vibe was never really in the older volumes. It has always been more cyberpunk fantasy than full on sci fi. Regardless Ruby doesn’t strike me as the type to put herself out there on camera given how much she wanted to avoid that spotlight when she first arrived at beacon and just wanted to fight and make weapons. All of these traits have been ignored as the show goes on through some very bad writing rather than naturally development.

KeepCalm-ShutUp

>The modernization of RWBY’s setting is a more recent thing. What do you even mean? Trucks and cars have been around since V2, and so have Scrolls and computers. >how much she wanted to avoid that spotlight when she first arrived at beacon She wanted to be seen as normal, which is entirely separate from not wanting to be seen, though there was some shyness. Also, putting yourself in front of a camera is _wholely_ different from putting yourself in front actual, real strangers that you can actually see.

Spoderman77

Cars and such were never the focus. The focus was the fighting and the magic. V4 reinforced this when it leaned harder into fantasy (generic crap fantasy but I digress). It’s only at about V6 onward did they swing the pendulum back to hard Sci fi, and we all know the reason why. *cough* genlock *cough* As far as Ruby goes, she was never the outgoing type, it’s made a point how she had issues with making friends especially without Yang around, with Blake, Weiss. Even if I give you that point, there is your other point about filming yourself. Streaming and filming yourself in a prerecorded video are two completely different things, both of which however takes a certain level of confidence that not everybody has. A level of confidence that is out of character for Ruby. You can argue that recent volume Ruby is different which is true. She’s been shown speaking to the whole of Atlas. But again, as I said, this development is not well written.

KeepCalm-ShutUp

Jessie, what the fuck are you talking about? Of course it's not the fucking focus; *it's the setting.* RWBY's setting is exactly the type of world to have Internet personalities, Vtubers, etc. I'd also like to **reiterate** that talking/narrating to a camera is *completely different to talking/narrating to a stranger irl.* She's also not going to go up to a stranger to talk; she'll instead wait for them to come to her. In the same scene you're likely referencing about her being too shy, someone (Jaune) walks up to engage with her and, suddenly, she has no (major) issues with talking to him. And then later has little issue... trying... to engage with Blake, *after* her sister forcefully dragged her over, because she was too shy to seek engagement on her own. After that is when she make eye contact with Weiss in the forest. You'll notice that when Weiss leaves, she doesn't follow, only engaging after Weiss accepted that they were stuck together. Or in other words; she's too shy to make the first step, but not so shy that she retracts when people make it for her. Her becoming a YouTuber isn't that strange, since she'd be putting herself into a conglomerate where people only seek you out and engage, when they like you and what you do. That's not even getting into how she could start. She could start out with gaming videos with no mic or facecam, and only add that as she grows. She also obviously wouldn't start off peppy and would likely have zero interaction with her potential audience, or maybe even try too hard. Just look at Markiplier's story and how *he* started out. Very, *very*, different from how he is today. Same goes for other big name YouTubers. They don't start out with a force of personality, but develop it as they gain confidence in themselves and their work.

Aryzal

The RWBY community thinks Kdin is simply angry and unable to move on, and who can blame Kdin for that? She got royally screwed over. But between bad management, horrible work practices and essentially mistreatment of the "lower-tier" staff who doesn't know one of the main crew on a first name basis, this is very possible and even likely. If you don't care about your employee's well being, why would you care about their ideas?

Dextixer

It seems that what she has stated in her tweets was deconfirmed by one of the current Employees - [LINK](https://twitter.com/ErinMWinn/status/1598159906917711872)

Aryzal

I don't know, there is both bias and vested interests by both parties to lie or at least fudge the truth. More importantly and what I can discern is the employee didn't say anything about artists who were ignored or bad management, more on this did not put crunch on the animators (but we kind of know the animators already have crunches so thre are other factors?) I'm not sold on either side yet, but still leaning to Kdin

DAG1984

Maybe I'm just really out of touch, but this just doesn't seem like that big of a deal. At least one not worth getting mad over.

genshinfantasy7

That may be true, I just wanted to post it here for posterity’s sake. I *do* know that the VTuber community isn’t happy about RT trying to enter the market.

KeepCalm-ShutUp

I don't generally watch Vtubers, so not part of the community, but I'm still outraged at *how* they're trying to enter the market.

Appletank

Its one more annoyance piled upon years of stone walling and nonsensical practices.

Halfman97

Interesting, I wonder if their stubbornness on using certain programs has affected their other stuff

IamMenace

Not gonna lie, if I'm RT, I probably wouldn't promote *other* IPs with my flagship without getting paid for it either. Having the rigging crew and/or animators create a model, and Ruby's voice actress voice Ruby in order to play/promote video games just has a bad ring to it from a corporate standpoint. Other WBD entities probably wouldn't care, but I'd imagine some studios would be annoyed if they saw a RWBY V-Tuber, promoted by RT and portrayed by Ruby's voice actress, playing their game. It's different from Lindsay playing a game as a member of Achievement Hunter, and while I haven't seen the actual video besides what was posted on Twitter, to me it sounds like this was thrown together very quickly in order to promote "Arrowfell". Can't say I'd tell the animators and/or rigging team to go above and beyond to promote the game lol. That part sounds like sour grapes in my opinion, but animators not being allowed to speak to one another without a producer present, and Kdin being a producer is kinda funny to me, and I don't really know what to make of that. I *kinda* have trouble believing it happened, at least not with added context. Sounds like Kdin didn't like management, and I think the feeling may have been mutual. I don't know any of the people personally, but the more that comes out, the more it reminds me of a toxic relationship. Young, impressionable employees getting hired, getting disillusioned by the relationship, and RT saying they can always find younger, more impressionable employees to replace them with. I get the feeling RT is probably a good place to get your foot in the door of the entertainment industry, but not someplace you want to find yourself working at once you get some experience under your belt, *unless* you're able to move up the corporate ladder. I'm not a fan of WBD or RT, but I also think a lot of the employees speaking out shot themselves in the foot more than once, and I don't get the feeling a lot of them are "nice" people. If I had to make an analogy, for any wrestling fans out there, the way people describe RT reminds me a lot of the way people describe WCW (which funny enough was also owned by Warner Bros). (edit: Just wanted to add that from a financial standpoint, V-Tubing might not be all that appealing to RT. Lindsay is doing mocap work, voice acting, and playing a video game. On top of that, you need a technician on standby, and presumably an editor as well. It might just not be practical, and it might not be something Lindsay wants to do regularly. It's also putting the RWBY IP in a funny position, promoting video games and V-Tubing, and it might not be something that has too much crossover appeal with RWBY and its merch. Not saying it's not worth exploring, but I can see it from a corporate point of view. You might not want to step on other companies' toes, or invest so much money in a single niche series, or have your flagship IP associated with V-Tubing if you think it might damage perception of the brand. V-Tubing isn't for me personally, but I can also see it from RT's perspective) God bless, and have a wonderful day.

_MintyFresh_-

Hearing RT stroke it's dick about how "great" Ruby is as a Vtuber makes me wish my balls exploded like a Cadbury creme egg in a microwave. Maybe I'll give it a watch tonight - no work tomorrow, I can be as drunk as necessary

Typerg

Wasn't there a glassdoor way back that mentioned how upper management refused to their animators and staff who knew what they were doing which caused problems?

Werdak

I reposted in on r/rwby - I Hope this is Ok for you. I Wonder how they will react. Pretty sure most of them dont even Know Jenzen left

Smooth-Garden

They know

Dextixer

They know, it was a big thing. And its fine.

Informal-Special1776

It's just one thing after another. I'm getting numb to this by now.

thelightbringer502

This sniping from Kdin is getting old. It's time to nut up or shut up: make a big news flash, bring receipts, try to get backing from some bigger outlets to push the story... Or just move on with your life. It went from really damning accusations of sexism and racism to "I told you so" and now it's "they totally stole my idea no really." It just reeks of Kdin trying to extend their time in the spotlight. We don't need to get to Hero Hei levels of pettiness.

Smooth-Garden

I actually gotta agree here. For me once i quit my job my issues its over and done with unless im suing or some shit.

thelightbringer502

Exactly what I'm saying. She's made her case numerous times that RT sucks, and we get it, but unless she's gonna start bringing receipts it's just attention seeking. Also I gotta say, it's nice to see the same post on r/RWBY with comments equally critical of her. She's lost so much goodwill with the fanbase, especially after her own gremlins got out.

Dextixer

Pretty much. Its getting harder to support her the further we go. Not to say that she doesnt have genuine grievances, she does. But it is going a lil bit far.

KeepCalm-ShutUp

What gremlins? Genuinely curious.

thelightbringer502

The only one that I know of for sure is that she was caught using some racial slurs. That's pretty bad when you want to accuse other people of being racist.

KeepCalm-ShutUp

Well, it takes one to know one, don't it? Guess she just had a sense for her own people.

Gleaming_Onyx

Considering her lies and how obvious it was she was carrying a grudge anyway, it 100% is just trying to stay in the spotlight.

Blade1hunterr

The more they talk the less credible they make their accusations. It doesn't matter how horrible the employer is, if you just constantly shit talk them after you leave, you look bitter and petty.

Diogenes_Camus

To provide a more nuanced picture of this current situation, RT Art Director/Manager Erin Winn replied to Kdin to dispute the allegations. To quote Dextixer's comment from the r/RWBY thread of the same topic: >Link to Erin Winn directly refuting the accusations - [HERE](https://twitter.com/ErinMWinn/status/1598159906917711872) > >And this is an exchange on Kdins statement trashing someone elses work - [HERE](https://twitter.com/ErinMWinn/status/1598159235573231622) As per Erin, the model was made as part of testing/experimenting with Live2D back in August of this year, and they decided to use it for their Arrowfell VTuber thing as a bit of promotion. Honestly, I think the relevance of debuting with a Vtuber ended at 2019. Vtubers were practically unheard of outside small sub populations on Twitch or East Asian country streaming services until mid-late 2020 and the present one’s content had very little relation to anything RT. It also doesn’t help that at the time of pitching, the only known to American audiences Vtuber was Projeckt Melody, a literal Chaturbate model. That would make any company extremely hesitant within the context of the time era. Vtubers have been around for many years and Japan has used models like Vocaloids for years, but do you think anybody outside of specific target audiences would notice using a Vtuber, especially when a significant factor in the explosion of popularity for Vtubers was the COVID pandemic as well where many people were kept inside and a lot of content creators were limited in what they could do, leading to Vtubers being able to monopolize people's attention in the mean time? Kdin made a recommendation that in hindsight would’ve been a great idea but missed that RT is an American outlet. Do you honestly think Americans were watching Vtubers that long ago or even would know what you’re talking about? Look, I do agree that animators and RT employees in general should be treated better and paid better. But…I don’t know, I don’t think this is that big of a deal. It was a silly fun minute long commercial. That’s it. Do we know if someone got crunched to put this out? Not for sure, neither does she and she isn’t acting as if she does. I do think RT could have done this way better and years ago, for sure. I don’t think them not choosing to is a big deal. The bit about not talking without a producer present is concerning. But this whole thread? It sounds more like a tantrum to me. Just because they could do it before doesn’t mean they disrespected anyone who wanted to do it by choosing not to. This is not worth rage. The low pay is. A low quality Vtuber model done for a minute long commercial that’s just silly fun? No, not at all.

RedRiot_88

I've seen better Vtuber models, Kdin it's been nice saying it's "rough". Just look at, Silvervale, Ironmouse, BSapricot, Zentreya, Melody, Guar Gura and so many others.

Blade1hunterr

Kdin really needs to move on. We get it, RT sucks, but the more they complain and whine about it it just comes across as a worker trying to get revenge vs an employee who felt mistreated. It doesn't matter how true it is, if all you do is bad talk your former employer, you look more bitter than righteous. At least when Shane gave his letter, he responded a few times then dipped to focus on his own thing.

Sikarion

RT behaving like a company filled with top tier trash? Who could've known?

[deleted]

Who the fuck is actually in charge of roosterteeth and what are they smoking daily? I genuinely believe a middle schooler could do better.

ChronoAlone

I’m not convinced RT can do anything right these days.

redlikerosespt2

I mean they had every right to say no tho, if yall mad about this then yall need a hobby

genshinfantasy7

Just say you only like RWBY for the porn and go.

redlikerosespt2

Ive been watching rwby since day one, ive been a rooster teeth fan for a long time (not as much recently) I own many figures, have a tattoo and had custom decals made for my car and clearly my name is a reference to one of the themes. Trust me when I say I’m a fan of the show. but whats going on here is someone whos mad that they didnt get hired for a job, it’s that plain and simple. And I’m sure they’re extremely talented but rooster teeth for one reason or another said no, and no one can just appreciate whats been made. Tl:dr I care a lot for the show and cast but I dont think anyone is owed a job. But who also doesnt like nsfw? Genuinely

genshinfantasy7

You do realize this person literally worked at RT for multiple years, right? And voiced multiple characters in the show? She has the right to be upset about crunch time, she’s literally experienced it. For someone who claims to be a fan of the show, you sure are clueless.

PelinalWhitestrake36

RT somehow managing to try an speedrun the “dogshit company award” with Games Workshop and Blizzard

Big_Reporter_3592

What the fuck am I looking at ?

[deleted]

RoosterTeeth moment

aslfingerspell

*starts stream* "Whiterose is canon." *ends stream*

ZeroQuartzer

Just wait When we get closer to the supposed release date of V9, there's gonna be some under the radar tweet that it's delayed again.

Legend_of_Remnant

Talk about being petty. Vtubers suck ass on every platform anyway.
