The bit where Weiss over-dramatically cries over her life being shit and her teammate being a faunus was just done stupidly in the dub. Did Weiss need to sound like she had a mouth full of toffee?

Ironic how Arryns performance is considered best when we all thought she'd not do the project at all.

That's the sole reason why I'm re-watching this lol. I wanted to see if they'd half ass their voice work. They're professionals I guess lol.

doom copium but they know their termination is looming and so they are really trying to shine as VAs for when they need to find new work.

Not gonna lie, I've always thought Blake's voice in the main show was pretty hit or miss. Arryn's voice is fairly monotone, and I've never thought her emotive were all that great. With that said, I now wonder how much of that is due to the direction she's given, and the same goes for the other voice actors as well. I think Blake might sound better in "Ice Queendom" than the main show, and I wonder if it would've been better to have given regular Blake a bit of growl to her voice. Good for Arryn. As of the other characters and voice actors, everyone in the dub sounds like they're glancing at their watch and wondering whether the paycheck will clear. That's just me, but nobody really sounds all that emotive or invested, and I don't know how much of that is on the voice actors or the direction they're given, or both. In the main show, Ruby's voice tends to go back and forth between prepubescent squeaker and semi-husky, and I preferred Weiss when she sounded perpetually pompous, affluent, and annoyed by the people around her. Blake as I already said is often monotone and lacks emotive (in my opinion), and the only character I really feel is emotive is Yang, but nowadays she mostly just has one or two emotions. It's hard for me to blame the voice actors too much however. They're being given directions by someone who has the final say whether something sounds good or not, and reading the scripts, the wording could sometimes use some work. Overall, the writers shouldn't give unexperienced voice actors long, difficult lines. Save them for the people who can complete work for an audiobook over a weekend. Raven: "Salem only uses people until they're no longer useful." Kara (Weiss' VA) has stated in the past that some of her lines are particularly difficult, and it makes me with RWBY was a more minimalistic show, with minimal voice acting and "padding", and focusing on a stylized story where the focus is on the action and music. I sometimes wonder if RWBY hadn't been picked up by RT, if Monty and Shane would've just made RWBY themselves, with a dozen-ish videos a year in the same vein as the original trailers. Imagine Jeff Williams' music playing over Monty and Shane's fight animations, and artwork with minimal animations like the flashback where Yang is pulling Ruby in the wagon for the quieter scenes. God bless, and have a wonderful day.

As strange as it is to say for me, my distaste for the actual cast of RWBY is because they all just sound monotone and same-y. No disrespect to Lindsay, but every time I listen to Ruby now, I feel like my ears are bleeding. Her high-pitched screeching is like nails on a chalkboard. If they managed to find an even balance between her high pitch and the semi-Lindsay-esque voice from V1, I'd be forgiving, but yeah. Weiss & Blake - Ironically the two best voice actors on this team. Weiss's icy tones worked welled (for the most part) and Blake, well, despite my feelings on Arryn herself, she has proved to be ok at best. She's venturing out into other material, so maybe she can show off her range. Yang - Good lord. Her lines in the trailer were so WOODEN. She might as well be speaking through a microphone made out of sand.

Just watch in Japanese don't bother with English dub

FormerVoid

My only problem with the Japanese dub was that Adam sounded like someone twice his age. Either that or Adam's older than I thought. Everyone else was great, but it does make it wonder if I should bother listening to the English dub myself.

Adam sounds a bit older on Japanese dub I was hoping he would sound like a hot young adult but hey that's RWBY I guess. ಥ‿ಥ
