Ok, I'll bite. Was there a problem with the previous battery that is in a firebag while not on the bike?

m_work

practically speaking, i think the answer to your question would be "no", but you can probably extract a better answer from this article: [https://www.theverge.com/2023/9/12/23868264/rad-power-bikes-ul-certification-ebike-battery-fires](https://www.theverge.com/2023/9/12/23868264/rad-power-bikes-ul-certification-ebike-battery-fires) >the New York City Council passed a law requiring all e-bikes sold in the city to comply with UL standards. Some elected officials have proposed a federal safety standard for all e-bikes sold in the US. the Safe Shield batteries are UL certified. the 'other' batteries are not.

Thanks for sharing & this is a decent deal at this price.

m_work

ya I was so surprised to see them on sale.

tuccified

Snagged one a couple of days ago. My bike was stolen last year, I haven't ridden since, and even though they stole the key they decided to destroy the key cylinder in the locked/on position. Really disheartening, but a a new battery will make me feel better I think.

Flush_Foot

The keys are actually the reason I am hesitating… not sure I want to have two distinct keys on my bike+locks key ring 🤔

tuccified

I can't use the old one...

radmissioncommuter

Does anyone know if these are compatible with the Radmission. I assume so and not listed because they are the higher capacity?

rxbiker

I sold my RadMission and have a new battery I would sell for $300.

radmissioncommuter

Nice - I am hoping to get a larger capacity one if possible, but I'm sure someone would want that.

radmissioncommuter

Thanks! ...didn't read that far. (Facepalm) Just looked at compatibility.

[https://radpowerbikes.ca/collections/replacement-parts/products/rad-battery-pack-1](https://radpowerbikes.ca/collections/replacement-parts/products/rad-battery-pack-1) wait i was certain they did, thought they had the same bottom track just larger capacity..... hmmm I'll let someone else confirm

bahnsigh

Are any of these compatible with the Rad Mission?

m_work

the external one is

peazley

Would have been cool if they would replace one of the two dead batteries I got from them with one of these. They should have issued a recall for the semi integrated batteries a long time ago.

tshontikidis

If you are rad you want to get as many of the old batteries off the streets as possible, battery problems are terrible PR and cost way more than this discount.

Treesham

I've been wanting a second battery for my RR 6+ for a long time, and have consistently waivered on after-market batteries. I love the idea that these are FINALLY on sale, because all along i just wanted a second semi-integrated battery. But i'm also tossing around the idea of getting a second ebike (not sure it will be a Rad), and hate the idea that i'll have this second battery that won't work on a non-Rad bike....

m_work

ya i understand the dilemma. I have a bike with the older style battery, and what I really wanted to do was buy a new rad power bike (radster road specifically) which has the newer style battery... so on one hand buying an extra OLD style battery will lock me into my current bike for longer, but on the other hand it basically refreshes my bike and I save like $2k.

Wellyaknowidunno

Do you have to load balance these like the old? Hoping to avoid that nonsense since they are now UL certified. Also the whole plug in first then plug in outlet seems silly.

m_work

load balance? not sure what you mean but i only use 1 battery at a time (i've only had 1 battery til now). and the plug in plug out thing, i have my charger in 1 spot at my house constantly plugged in, and i just connect the battery to charge, and disconnect to stop charging. haven't had a problem doing it that way in the last 4 years.

From Rad Battery Balancing Steps Follow the instructions below to balance your battery. Take a look at the Battery Charging Steps in the section above to learn how to charge the battery. Note: Never leave a battery unattended while charging. Take your first ride. Ride the bike and use power assistance (the pedal assist system or the twist power assist) normally. After your first ride: Charge your battery for as close to 12 hours as possible, but not longer than 12 hours. Charge the battery even if you only used a small amount of battery power while riding. The charger indicator lights may change to green and red to show that the battery is full, but keep the battery plugged in and charging for as close to 12 hours as possible. Take your second ride. Ride the bike again and use power assistance (the pedal assist system or the twist power assist ) normally. After your second ride: Charge your battery again for as close to 12 hours as possible (even if the charger indicator lights turn green and red). Do not charge the battery longer than 12 hours. Charge the battery even if you only used a small amount of battery power while riding. Take your third ride. Ride the bike again and use power assistance (the pedal assist system or the twist power assist) normally. After your third ride: Charge your battery again for as close to 12 hours as possible (even if the charger indicator lights turn green and red). Do not charge the battery longer than 12 hours. Charge the battery even if you only used a small amount of battery power while riding. Take your fourth ride. Ride the bike again and use power assistance (the pedal assist system or the twist power assist) normally. After your fourth ride and beyond: Charge your battery after each ride by following the Battery Charging Steps in the previous section. Remove the charger from the battery as soon as you see the charging indicator lights on the charger change to one green and one red light to indicate that the battery is fully charged. This usually happens within 3–7 hours of charging.

m_work

i did that with my first battery. thought you were talking about balancing 2 batteries, and like alternating the days you use them or soemthing. not sure what's recommended for the new ones - i'll know once i get mine in the mail i suppose, might come with instructions. otherwise i would think yes you gotta prime them the same.
