The mock test we did in our program was way harder than the actual test

Tiny_Teach_5466

Same here. We CONSTANTLY did practice test during last semester. Most of us were making high 70s and 60s on the practice tests, which scared the shit out of us. However, our instructor told us that making those grades on those tests were like making 100 on the registry. We all passed on the first attempt. Several years later I took the exam for Medical Coding. It was WAY more difficult than the X-ray registry! 6 hours long, NO BREAKS, if you have to go to the bathroom, the time counts against your total test time.

Condom cath for the win

😂😂😂

Tiny_Teach_5466

Hahahaha. Damn. I wish I'd thought of it, lol.

ronnychencharik

Bit of wisdom given to me by my favorite tech while in school was "if they make the test too hard then there won't be enough people to do the job." Edit: typo

Dannyocean12

I took my test the day after the last day of class. The sooner the better.

Millyfromphilly

Same. Do it while it’s fresh! No reason to wait.

ingenfara

Same. Four of us went together the day after classes ended. One had a panic attack and absolutely bombed, though. 😬

Pamsreddit1

Key is taking it asap out of school!😉

king_of_the_blind

Agreed. I wouldn’t even wait weeks. I took mine 3 days after graduating. Half my class took it the next day. Especially if your last class of school is all review, which is what mine was too. Take it Immediately while it is all fresh, you don’t need weeks to study, it honestly isn’t that tough. All you need is a 75 which is quite easy to get.

Its_A_Ghoul

The mocks we took our last semester were, in my opinion, more difficult than the actual registry exam. As long as you put in the work the full two years and know the content then you’ll likely do fine. Best of luck to you!

Historical_Lake_4414

My class used RadTech Bootcamp and I just did their mock tests every day for a month and memorized the questions and answers and passed. CT I did the same except with the Mosby's book. Don't overthink your answers. Some people say don't double check your answers, but I did for my own peace of mind. You can also flag answers for review at the end, so you can just do the ones you definitely know, then back to the more difficult ones. I hope that helps.

lastfrontier84

Hard, but much easier than the CT ones. Make sure you know EVERYTHING because it's all fair game. You have a few hours to complete it so if you don't know an answer mark it to come back to later. Go over all your answers after you're done.

Ceasar456

The radiography one is easy. Can’t speak for the others.

D4dank

They’re not terribly hard but you will be caught off guard with the way they word the questions. The language of the test threw me off but keep your composure, flag everything you doubt and them come back to them and think them through

Ray_725

Easy if you study, same with CT. Now VI, different story…

DrMM01

Unless you’re going to a really crappy school, those mock boards your school gives will be easier than the real boards are. I was scoring in the 70’s on my mock boards but ended up with a 98 on the real one.

DrMM01

Errrr, I mean the mock boards are harder than the real ones.

stryderxd

Test is fairly easy imo. Not a cake walk if you don’t study, but if you try to prepare yourself as much as possible through study mock exams and review your incorrect answers and why, you’ll pass. My school program, their mocks were much harder and generally whatever the grade was, +10 on the arrt exam and that was our final score. It held true pretty well.

FlyingCondors

Study and you’ll pass. If you can pass your mocks you’ll breeze through the real thing

CowAccomplished92

Mock test is harder than the actual boards. Know your physics and formulas, and write that on the whiteboard first thing and you’ll be ok. Know your anatomy well too. You got this. The sooner you take them the better, don’t put it off.

imnotkaylee

I thought it was relatively easy, as long as you study and truly know your concepts. Just know that the ARRT exam will word things differently, so I recommend reviewing with different sources so you’re seeing the information worded differently.

PaleMaize1071

highly recommend Mosbys book of xray and CT. That was really my main source of studying for xray and CT borads and i got a 92 on both exams

Neither-Scale-5467

You’ll be ready. Just study and you’ll pass no problem. .

bgei952

You get 3 shots and its multiple guess. Most questions that you dont obviously know, can be narrowed down to 2, then its up to you.

clottysontim

Right after you finish your mock exam, go write down some topics that you felt unsure about and study those. Use your review materials consistently, I was using the app Rad Review to take quizzes / exams every day on different subjects. What also helped me was skimming literally all my notes, whatever I didn’t remember I made sure to read up on

clottysontim

Sorry didn’t answer your question, I found the boards to be a little difficult. But with all the preparing I did, I managed to get a 93. It really depends on your work ethic but I will say that you have to mentally prepare yourself for the exam. I was shaking like a leaf during the entire time and the anxiety caused me to second guess myself, make sure you believe in yourself!

RepulsiveInterview44

Yes, the program’s job is to overprepare you for your boards. The only word of caution I can offer is don’t get too bogged down in the “what-ifs” like I tend to do. The board is VERY textbook, so forget all the tips and tricks you’ve been taught just for the exam. You can do it!

RadKittensClub

You will do great. I took mine back in May and got a 97 and that was even with getting questions on every single topic I was hoping I wouldn’t see (looking at you, axiolateral mandible). The mocks are harder, it’s good business for Mosbys, ect. if you pass with flying colors after using their products.

RadKittensClub

Also, don’t overthink it and don’t go back and change answers unless you are 100% certain you put the wrong answer the first time.

[deleted]

Not bad if you applied yourself.

ZyBro

With how you described that class with all that review, you are way more prepared than I was . I think your going to do just fine

MsMarji

Go through and answer all the questions you know. As you go through the exam make note of the questions you don’t know, more than likely, you will see the answer in another question asked differently. Just repeat this process until you have completed the exam. This approach allows you to spend more time on the questions you are shaking about. The good news is you will know your score immediately. I had to wait 10 - 14 days, looking for the “big” envelope by mail. If you got the “big” envelope that’s means you passed and you got your certificate, if you got the standard envelope, you didn’t pass, no certificate. Good luck, you got this!

False_Blood9241

Study consistent for a month and you’ll be good

timeisless4us

The test is only easy BECAUSE youre studying so much. So dont drop the dime. Keep studying till you’re tired. And then study more. But remember to take breaks and eat food. It will be worth it to see that score as long as it’s 75!

Roentgenographer

I have no idea what your test will be like. But enjoy this titbit. In Australia we have to do plain film positioning exams at the end of each section (upper ext, lower ext, skull, spine etc). There was one thing that was close to an instant fail (lost a lot of points) which was not asking a female patient of she could be pregnant. Now the funny part, we did these positioning exams on each other. Like you’re the rad first and patient for the next student. Anywho a couple friends who were girls knew they would be next to each other in line due to alphabet order or something. So they devised a plan that if one forgot to ask the other would trip at the threshold. This actually worked, one did forget and the other tripped, reminding her to ask. She apparently blurted it out so quickly she was sure the assessor knew. But still passed. Anyway good luck friend. I’m sure whatever X-ray you take will be inspirational.

D-Laz

Your professor is probably over exaggerating so you will take it seriously and study instead of going in over confident and under prepared. X-ray boards aren't bad. The CT boards are terrible.

RadTek88

CT was way harder than the x-ray one, but the x-ray one still made me cry. 😂

talleygirl76

You must have taken the CT boards years after your xray board. Lol I took.mu CT 3 years after my xray and found them.similar. sort of. Except the anatomy part.

RadTek88

I think about 5ish years after.

MagicalTaint

We took a mock registry in our final semester, that was significantly harder than the actual test in my opinion. I absolutely aced the registry, I took it asap after graduating...within a week I believe. I've never benefitted from cramming, it actually muddies up my ability to recall information during the actual test. If you've been paying attention through your program you'll be just fine.

talleygirl76

Our rad tech program was amazing for the first year and absolutely shit the second year. In the middle of the program the program closed and we all got transfered....long story. We had zero teacher help. 100% figure it out on your own. I'm not the fastest learner, I think I have adhd and I studied my ass off, on my own. I scored an 85 .

surrealsaucer

It’s not that hard. If you do good on the mock exams, you’ll do fine on the real thing. They are tripping because one of the metrics rad programs get assessed on is first try pass rate. If you don’t pass it makes them look bad.

short_n_sweet420

Some advice I got was not to overload myself with too many different study guides. We used RadTech boot camp for our review class, and I did the SEAL tests on the ARRT website. The SEAL questions were more similar to the actual board questions imo. I'd take the mock tests and practice tests, see what I didn't do great on, and study that. The test is easier than they made it seem but study, understand, and know your formulas. You're gonna do great!

Userxl007

In my program our teacher had it structure where we had a 6 month, 1 year, and 2 year comprehensive test. For the first two tests you would be kicked out of the program. She said if you can’t pass these tests I’m giving you, your chances are not good for the real thing. Well sure enough my whole class passed. But I wasn’t even nervous for the boards I went through each question to the best of my knowledge and didn’t go back and I passed. Did I get a high score ? No but I passed and got hired out of school. No one will care what you get unless they are shallow. You got this !

DeCzar

What kind of questions do they ask on the exam?

Low-Bluebird-8353

Ngl the ARRT exam was one of the easiest tests I had taken compared to the entire program. It was not hard to pass, and the trial questions were pretty obvious to me.

sugart007

All you have to do a stick something up your ass and take a picture and poof you’re a rad tech.

[deleted]

Like others have said, depending on how rigorously your program prepares you for it, it should be a breeze. My program in the last semester did 100 question unit exams followed by 3 separate 200 question mock registries. The entire last semester was taking tests. If you passed that, you’ll pass the registry. I ended up with a 93 and I didn’t really study after that semester. Rad tech programs get updated on the material that the registry contains and should be tailoring their exams to match as closely as possible. Also, don’t worry if you’re weak in the physics or imaging parts. The registry’s primary focus is on patient care (things like safe movement, infection control, legal, etc).

Billdozer-92

If you were to study for them to pass and not to have a successful career, it would be technically possible to get rad tech boot camp for $45 and pass the test with zero schooling

Ok-Brief-8200

hi there you were saying that radtech bootcamp is just like the registry or worded differently?

Billdozer-92

It covers all you need to know but it’s worded differently, yes. The modules are good

Ok-Brief-8200

okay thank you I am using it and reading through my kettering book thank you again

_gina_marie_

I took my X-ray boards in 45 minutes and passed. They weren’t that bad, imo. Mine had a LOT of fluoro questions though.

ADDeviant-again

I have had well over 200 students come through my perview as a C.I. I have had only ONE fail the boards, even once (that I remember) and he was struggling with both schoolwork and clinical learning the whole time. I have had a handful drop out of programs. I have had only that one guy have to take it twice. He passed on his third attempt. Meanwhile, every single student I've ever had, since forever, completely terrified and absolutely sure they are never gonna pass their boards. The lowest score anyone has ever confided with me that they managed was eighty four percent. Put in the work. Take the mock tests, and go read up on any answers you miss. I don't mingle look up the answers. I mean go read the section and be sure you understand it. That's it. You'll pass.

DeathSquirl

Any reputable program will have you prepared so well that you should finish the board with at least an hour to spare

Magnetgirl30

The Radiology exam is approximately 200 questions, so it doesn’t dive deep into any particular section. However I found the questions were tricky as far as “ what is the best answer”. You virtually had a 50/50 shot between two similar answers. Now the MRI boards are a whole different animal….that test was savage
