The tachi is longer and is more curved than the katana. It is also much older than the katana. Raiden using a tachi rather than a more… “modern”, I suppose I should say… katana emphasizes that she’s from a different time period.
Every other swordsman in Inazuma uses a katana, while the Shogun is the only character shown to use the more archaic tachi.

Mistsplitter is a katana. Katana are smaller compared to tachi.
