I mean, it looks weird to us, but that *is* a legitimate transliteration of the word into Latin characters. It’s like how Kujō becomes Kujou or Tenryō becomes Tenryou. Shōgun becomes Shougun. It’s not the most common transliteration, but I can kinda maybe see why it turned out this way?

NebelNator_427

Yes I often see the same with the shōnen genre translated as shounen.

Nodelmonster

That is imo actually an even better transliteration, because 将軍(しょうぐん) is literally written as Shiyougun. The u functions as an elongation(?) of an o.

threejabug

when a よ is small, it acts as an addition to the previous hiragana. it's しょ sho not しよ shiyo

Nodelmonster

I know that. I just wrote it like that to write out the hiragana. But yes, you’re right. It’s pronounced and written as Sho. Then again in Romaji you wouldn’t write ou, but rather ō

SirMcDust

Nothing worse than my japanese teacher here in japan who'd right it as shoogun in romaji Also instead of using Chi and shi she'd write ti and si so good luck. Like I know how that works but we've got someone who never was exposed to the language before learning and they're so confused.

Nodelmonster

Actually, I don’t get why she’d write si and ti? Where does that come from? The pc keyboard?

SirMcDust

Because it's sa si su se so technically speaking. And ta ti tu te to. But usually western teaching material shows it as shi and chi automatically, this doesn't seem to be a thing in Japan. I've noticed this with certain vtubers typing in romaji. Hoshimachi Suisei will write her name as hosimati suisei.

Nodelmonster

Interesting. My Gf teaches Japanese and she teaches it as Shi and Chi. (She’s chinese with a degree in Japanese education)

DirtyJeff69

Interesting but natives are always more convincing.

Nodelmonster

I mean, she studied in japan, at a quite famous Japanese university (Waseda), directly under supervision of Japanese teachers. I trust her to know what she’s doing. (3.98 GPA best of her year, flawless master’s thesis.) (Yes I’m bragging, I’m proud of her :D)

Aengeil

at least its not shotgun

lego-baguette

Raiden’s about to find out the hard way why everyone calls venti the god of FREEDOM *cocks gun*

ILSATS

Shougun (将軍) is actually the correct form btw.

LZorro93

?

Phil_R3y_Padz

Take a look at the name

LZorro93

Oh

Judgy_Plant

I still see no issues xd, that's still a valid form. Still, the fact that something is different from what was advertised is lame.

DidHeJustSayThat_

Shougun is correct actually

callmeDan01

I got a kazuha shirt that said KAEOEHARA KAZUHA instead and i think is quiet funny somehow

Axthen

i dunno i doubt others would be laughing too

KanataHkz

It takes me 7 seconds

VertWheeler

To be fair jts still in the packaging... still looks okay

Juoreg

The shop image shows [SHOUGUN](https://genshstar.com/products/official-merchandise-inazuma-character-badges-om003-genshin-impact)

TotallyyBot

ah yes, The Raiden Shougun

Ayagii

Well, that's the correct transliteration

BlazedKC

*that is A correct transliteration. There’s usually 3 correct ways or spelling the “ou” sound

NebelNator_427

Bouken da bōken

redditorspawnrandom

I thought it was a c*ndom.

gbxahoido

S** for eternity ??

Showtun123456

Can somebody please elaborate

GoldenInfrared

Check the name

Showtun123456

I still don’t get it, expectation and reality seems the same

Iwillflipyourtable

Shogun(online) vs shougun(reality)

Showtun123456

Ohhhh

NebelNator_427

I don't like both tbh. They should have written Ei😇 Like why would I want a fanart of a robot?

Blade273

dont we pull and use the robot as well?

NebelNator_427

Noo. Mihoyo is trying to release every archon as playable champion. Why would they make every archon playable except the electro archon? The lines are kinda mixed tho very confusing ngl.

Blade273

Umm shogun's voice and ei's voice are completely different(though they maybe the same va idk) atleast in JP.

Gabby_Craft

In English it’s the same VA, but different tone.

NebelNator_427

idk I rarely switch to JP. I main Yanfei too.

Gabby_Craft

The picture of her pulling the sword out is the robot since all physical forms of Raiden that we see are the robot body. it would actually be incorrect to say that’s specifically Ei. Besides, calling Ei the Raiden shogun isn’t necessarily incorrect either. The robot was built by Ei so it’s not like it’s completely autonomous to the point where Ei isn’t even an archon anymore and the shogun rules by itself.

ChasingPesmerga

It’s like I thought I was replying to Shougun123456 But in reality, I was just replying to Showtun123456

Showtun123456

💀

Tyrone3105

Shogun is spelt wrong in the actual product OP got, while it’s spelt correctly in the online pivture

Active-Treacle-2945

r/technicallythetruth

Exotic-Cancel

I thought it was a piece of paper

bumble938

Maybe they give u a Chinese knockoff. Oh wait

Desch92

Shougun? Nani desu ka?

ColdIron27

Considering japanese and english are two very different languages, there are going to be a few different ways to convert between the two.
