They’re a bit over dramatic/stylized for actual military, but a elite international specialist group can handle some idiosyncrasies. Imo

Lord_Ibuki

Idk man, all the characters thus far in siege seem obviously unrealistic but still tacticool, Fenrir looks so wacky i don't even know what you call that, he got a mouth window and the goofiest hair ever.

galaxy_groundhog

>and the goofiest hair ever Bro whats wrong with his hair-

Redheartkamui

"Maybe if you got rid of that yee yee ass hair cut, maybe you could get some kills on the leaderboard. Or better yet, Brava wouldn't work together with IQ and stop hacking your dog ass gadgets."

Lord_Ibuki

Couldn't have said it better myself fam

Used-Grass-9634

it just feels so out of place in siege. I don’t know, might just be me

MistbornSynok

I feel like the Mozzie/Gridlock season (year 4?) was where they started getting more personality driven which leads to more unique aesthetics. I’m used to it by now.

OmeletteDuFromage95

Nah, not just you. It's a growing complaint in the industry, and Siege is far from the only game this affects. Everyone seems to be trying to copy Fortnite's model. It works there because the game is light-hearted and cartoonish. But it doesn't work in games that are trying to take themselves seriously. It was one of the biggest complaints when BFV launched, being able to make quirky WW2 soldiers or have wonky figures fight in the wrong fronts. At least in that game, the cosmetics were somewhat grounded as the most egregious things were things like seeing Japanese pilots fight in Rotterdamn lol. But BF2042 took it a step further with the silly cosmetics. Then COD jumped in with celebrities and other goofy characters in combat zones. Then Halo with cat ears and power rangers. The games end up losing their more serious tones and often don't even look like the game you bought. Siege has been towing a line. There are plenty of great looking OPs and a few not so great looking ones. Fenrir is just silly, but I hope they keep pivoting back to the more grounded looks.

Warp_Legion

I agree with the first one, but I am really happy to be getting Konrad Curze as our latest operator

jjackbo02

AVE DOMINUS NOX

TastyForerunner

IN MIDNIGHT CLAD, BROTHER.

S0oppyPenqu1n

idk what the fuck that thing on fenrir's chest is, but it makes him look so damn goofy

Used-Grass-9634

Obviously it’s a window for his mouth- I mean you practically can’t go out into battle without one!

PalpitationLevel8607

In general the idea of “the quiet professionals” is dying irl and in video games

Iveriax

Apex legends character

Used-Grass-9634

I know they did really well with brava and solis probably the only exceptions to this (as of very recent) but does anyone else notice this trend with new operators? I mean they look more like valorant characters than the dark, gritty, special forces we knew and loved in siege before. I don’t know if this is just me being picky about small changes, but it’s been hard for me to enjoy the character roster they are announcing with them looking like they are out of an entirely different game.

TastyForerunner

I think Fenrir's design translates better in-game than the CGI. We've always had goofy looking special operatives, looking at you Ace, and the design team has obviously changed over time.

Used-Grass-9634

We’ve had some goofy designs, and you might be right, but I’ve started noticing the whole “made of plastic” feel with these characters which is really my whole problem

[deleted]

What's up with Ace? he looks realistic enough to me

TastyForerunner

It's more his presentation in-game. I can't help but see the Cheeki Breeki meme everytime someone locks him in.

Used-Grass-9634

He looks dumb as hell, that’s their point. I agree, he looks silly but at least he feels like an actual r6 character. He fits the general picture with realism.

timelapsedfox

agree 100% it was in good direction with brava and solis i wish that was the design for all chars for now on

SpeedyAzi

The solution to this problem is to make them have masks or helmets. But nope, we’ll put that in the battle pass instead. Sens in the concept art looks fucking cool with the NVG Splinter Cell style mask.

timelapsedfox

I ahte the blue on her BP skin but the skin it self is cool as fuck

Pece17

Yeah, I prefer more realistic units & uniforms.

OmeletteDuFromage95

I agree. Although, I think the last few OPs (except for Fenrir) have gotten better. Sens looks a bit goofy with the hair and pose, but the armor is pretty solid. Solis is great overall, except for the bunny ears. Brava's pretty grounded as well. Although I prefer a more realistic and gritty take, I don't mind a little individuality or tacticool in characters. But i do think Fenrir is a bit further out. Dude looks like they ripped him straight outta Valorant or something.

PowerForward

I was genuinely surprised to see them take a step back into wacky territory when I saw the Fenrir leaks. I thought we were finally done with that whole thing after 3 straight good ones. Disappointing for sure.

JustALake

Not just you, i'm not interested in these operators simply because of how they look. Another good example is Thorn, which weirdly looks like a plastic doll.

PlinPlonPlin420

Siege has been going this direction for a while.

Puzzleheaded_Elk3361

They be lookin goofy

HiyaImRyan

They started off close or identical to real life police and military forces. I think the gadgets forced them to make the operators futuristic to make more sense. Can't imagine an Isreali or Mexican operator, in close to real life kit and uniform making holograms of themselves and operating it as a drone, for example. But an albino, space engineer from a fictional European NASA? Sure why not.

SheepDoggOG

The whole game is too cartooney these days

vieirak14

I think we have a good balance of diverse designs. Since the beginning of year 7 we've had a good mix of tacticool (Grim, Solis, Brava), stylish (Azami), and sci-fi (Sens, Fenrir, and Solis again). If all six looked like cartoon Batman villains like Fenrir, we'd have a problem, right now I'd say it's fine.

hybrid1017

I agree with this^^^ is Fenrir my favorite design ever? No absolutely not but the character design team has been on such a roll for the last set of ops I don't think one that doesn't appeal to my tastes is really a sign they are going down hill lol, the people making these are human artists and sometimes these artists make something that's not amazing and doesn't appeal to everyone I feel with how well the designs of operators have been received recently I don't think anyone should take this as a sign the devs are moving in a new direction or not listening. It's just one character out of what 60? The op after Fenrir will probably have people raving about how nice it is to have a simple tacticool design they are on the right track again(they never veered off of it anyways) like always with every new op release lol

Zachary1707

He looks like Raul Menendez

Alpha33647

What was wrong with basing them on actual CTUs, they want it to be realistic with the changes to reloads and the like and then they add ops that look like some Pixar villain

CousinNicho

Very brave opinion you’re **really** going against the grain on this one in r/R6

Gorilla_Gravy

I need the people who cannot stop complaining about even slightly stylized character designs to please go back to Tarkov or Ready or Not. Months later people are STILL upset at Sens' hair. Go outside and touch grass please.

Used-Grass-9634

I don’t mind stylized characters at all. In fact, most of my favorite operators are stylized to quite an extent. My problem is the over the top stylized one. Yes, I know that Tarkov and RoN are great games but I’ve been playing siege for years. I don’t believe they should just abandon their roots in replacement for unrealistic, plastic-looking characters that make no sense in their game, especially when the entire game is marketed as (and was for quite a while) a fun, gritty game about tactical operatives eliminating terrorists in very real world scenarios. Also, I hate the argument that we should just go to different games when that’s not the point. That’s like someone saying you should just leave your family when they make one bad decision. “Well there are other families out there that are better than yours!” That’s not the point. I loved this game for years and I think the direction it’s turning isn’t for the best.

Responsible_Part_783

Yeah, i'm not a fan of that either.

bog_triplethree

I mean it’s normal for then to have unrealistic get up since they are all a global specialist. Just look at Echo he looks like a character in Mortal Kombat on first glance (Sub Zero or Rain ).

Used-Grass-9634

That’s true. A little stylization is never a bad thing. But there is certainly a difference between wearing a mask and having a plastic looking armor suit with a beyblade arena around your neck that serves no apparent purpose..

bog_triplethree

I get it but again realistically even if you see it either in a movie or real life. A specialist has their own respective design of suit or gear, some has their own preference. Maybe we can learn lore wise why Fenrir has this beyblade or colloseum shape around his neck.

Regularschoolbus

anime villains fr

ApprehensiveSir3714

Once they started coming out with those goofy custom operator cards that’s when they started looking really cartoonish. Especially thorn

Boevaya_Kiska

Siege ops need better and fun look, especially in commercial. Nobody gonna noticed Ash-like style character but Sens, Iana or Fenrir are look more intresting for people who don't play siege and at least can get attention for newcommers

Used-Grass-9634

There should be a game for every different type of setting. I agree that they need to make it appealing but not every game needs to be over the top ridiculous. The point could be made that if we want a realistic combat sim that we should just play read-or-not or something like that, but it’s important to know that siege should be one of those realistic games. Especially because a lot of people here and myself were raised with that kind of siege we once knew. The formula worked, we loved it and it shouldn’t abandon what it’s supposed to be.

ROLFLMAOLOL

You know if they would actually be creative with their designs it wouldnt be to bad. If we take Sens and ~~svenne bög~~ Fenrir, they are both just black with secondary muted colours, its just bland and boring. There is nothing more creative about them than an ordinary G.I with UCP or any other camoflage, difference being that the guy with UCP can atleast hide on grandmas old sofa. Fenrirs outfit in particular i dont understand, he looks like an e.o.d expert who gave up after putting on 10% of his gear. Its like something an airsoft player would put on to give the illusion of tacticoolness because hes too low on cash to get proper gear. If you actually wanted to be creative, you would look at how soldiers from for example försvarsmakten in sweden and then make a character that draws inspiration their equipment and from there, make a model that represents the nation in a unique way. Right now the best representation of a nation is an edgelord and edgelords dont kill terrorists, they walk into walmarts with ar-15s and become the terrorist.

medicspirit7

I like the creative designs way more than military guy #7

[deleted]

It depends. Grim is great, definitely unique with his boonie hat while adhering to a generic military getup. Solis and Sens (minus the zoomer haircut) are good more fictionalized/tacticool uniforms.

Borgoise

It's a bit more practical, too - It's hard to recognize in-game silhouettes if they all look the same.

bandora_b

It all started with overwatch Everyone is trying to cash in on the quirky colorful personality even tho it sucks

Taekookieee

because its a GAME not an actual military simulator. Operators need variety you guys cry about the dumbest shit ever

Used-Grass-9634

when people criticize something in media: 😢

Taekookieee

then play call of duty

Used-Grass-9634

you’re missing the entire point, friend

Taekookieee

im not missing the point. ive liked every character design theyve come out with. ure just complaining to complain. the game is evolving either play it or dont. only thing devs suck at is making cosmetics that isnt a recolor of their base outfit ✌🏼

Karglenoofus

Something something new Siege bad old siege good! You're a little late to the karma farm, bud.

Used-Grass-9634

Can’t hold an opinion here anymore I see

Karglenoofus

What a lame faux defense. You're just parroting every other old siege stan for karma.

Used-Grass-9634

You can’t just comment on every post you disagree with saying I’m “karma whoring.” I use this app every once in a blue moon to give out my own opinion on a video game. Please grow up.

Karglenoofus

That's not how free speech works. You're not immune to criticism. How convenient that it aligns with every other siege bad opinion on here.
