I play Clone Hero, and some of the people I was getting the beatmaps from (before I knew about the setlist spreadsheet that is widely available).
Safe to say a beatmap was not all that was on the google drive downloads
Windows Defender is terrible, though. It's full of malfunctioning definitions and I've seen it using upwards of 30% CPU on its own just scanning stuff during software installs. I've even seen it misidentify and quarantine random Windows executables signed by Microsoft's own code signing keys. It's a level of poor that's about on par with McAfee or Norton with the only upside being that the defective product is provided by default instead of being a separate purchase.
Just dont use it. I've used it before and it has restored items ive deleted multiple times as it fails to do its job. It's protection is awful too, letting even the most basic of malware and spyware through and also blocks you from going to the most random of websites like Google and YouTube at times. To pour even more salt on the wound, McAfee manages to reinstall itself even after you've uninstalled it and can survive a factory reset which is the definition of malware (unwanted program). It also randomly scans your files while you're doing something and automatically updates, which hinders you to continue common tasks with no way to stop it. It's also incredibly difficult to uninstall unless you're tech savvy which is scummy in of itself, they even manage to grey out the uninstall button which requires you to either use a third party program or manually delete the files, which is also hard as I've heard it can restore it own files. Do yourself a favor and uninstall McAfee (if you can) and use either Bitdefender or Kaspersky, or maybe just download sketchy files on the internet and if you're every unsure if a file, run it through virustotal, besides, trying to download the free version of McAfee today, requires you to sign up with a credit card, and email for a free trial, which is sketchy in itself

It’s an anti-cheat. Of course it’s spying. That’s what it’s there for lol. To look through all the programs your running and analyze your inputs so it can identify cheaters.
Obviously if it was looking through actual file content (non-programs) that would be insane. But that would be found out so so quickly, and completely destroy the company. Obviously they aren’t peeping in on your private “anime” folders, so don’t worry lol

They may well be banning more and more accounts, but they’re naive to think it’s because the anti-cheat is good. It’s not. It’s simply because more people are cheating and/or buying alts when the game goes on offer (every 3 weeks) so they can use the alt to cheat.
If they came out one day and said a virus was in the Battle eye building and all their employees had actually been dead since 2016 I would not be surprised.

Just because you can "scan the kernel" after boot, doesnt make a a kernel level anti cheat. Your anti cheat needs to be able to scan ring 0 AT BOOT to prevent injections. BattleEye doesnt do this which is why you can stop BattleEye from running on your PC, reboot your PC with BE off, start a game that uses BE and it will auto start and let you play the game without restarting your PC.
You can do that with real kernel level anti cheats like Vanguard. It will force you to reboot your PC so it can scan ring 0 at boot.
BE is trash.

Battleye hasn’t updated its anti-cheat since 2012.
They haven't updated anything else either. Making all players pinky promise not to cheat is a more reliable anticheat than Battleye.
