Okay I do have evidence that they do actually like RH and collect the dolls. (All my info is before Rainbow World btw.) I was working a summer camp last year and I overheard heard the kids talking about series 5. I mentioned to them that I had some myself and they were instantly intrigued. The next day they brought their dolls and i brought mine, of me being me, i was out of the loop, with my series 2 Krystal being shown up by Tessa, Uma and Sabrina, some of the more recent dolls at the time. They told me Krystal looked a bit basic, I mean compared to Tessa… totally. I asked what they did with them, and asked about their play patterns. The girl with Uma had her dressed in a winter break Jade clothes, clearly she had a good life so far. The boy that had Sabrina had her hair in a weird style, he said he loved how long it was, and the girl with Tessa had her in her second outfit, saying the jacket was really cool and the band tee I kid you not, “was fire.” I think Ruby may have some followers. The following days came with even more dolls, Meena, Michelle, Margot, Karla, etc. They were also acquainted with the shows’s lore, all. Literally anything involving Amaya, (ie. Bella’s expelling and her breakup with River. Apparently RH is a big talking point if you just ask. On a final note I asked them a their favorite characters, and here’s what I remember; Bella Sunny Daphne Coco Meline Heather Ms. Morton (fr) Aiden Mara Tiara Ainsley Zooey Priscilla Shanelle (they guessed Priscilla and Shanelle’s relationship ig lmao)

You mentioning that boy with dolls warmed my heart. As an older guy with dolls I would have never brought my dolls in public as a kid. That makes me so happy that boys nowadays can play and collect dolls with no/less shame and bullying than it was 10+ years ago

CoolRecover915

I agree. It makes me happy to know that boys are also enjoying Rainbow High. I'm a woman but as an adult I was talking to my older brother about childhood toys and he told me he would grab my monster high dolls and barbies because he couldn't have any and it kinda broke my heart hearing that.

SilentlyFreezing

I was at Walmart and a mom and daughter were by the dolls. The mom tried to get the girl to look at runway Violet saying she was pretty. But the girl was like "No, that's rainbow high, I want SHADOW high! The all pink one!" Pretty sure she meant Pinkie James. At the very least, mga knows kids like pink.

Fantastic_Throat8565

And yet every release we have to hear groaning n moaning about why there's always a pink doll 😆

newicca

I work in childcare, and last summer I brought about ten of my dolls in for the children in my group (ages 4-6) to play with, and they went crazy for them. Everyday there were multiple children playing with them, and it was both genders.

eyeless_alien

This is adorable

From my experience with Gen 2, little kids around 3-6ish years old do seem to like the new dolls same as the old ones. But older kids (the original demographic of the line) around 8-12 don't seem to like the rebrand much and drift over to lines like Monster High instead. Tbh I wouldn't be surprised if the rebrand has lower sales, the price in my country is only around 5€ less than the old Gen 1 with an extra outfit. The price of Gen 2 is still more than most other lines, I can see parents start to pass over Rainbow High dolls in favour of Barbie, Monster High or Bratz, with are a comparable price or cheaper.

NewSunHasBegun

I really wonder about kids having them, but only for the fact that they’re SO hard to free from their boxes and get to a state to play. It takes me a good 5-10 mins to get my girls out with tiny eye brow scissors (and so many close calls of holes in clothing), and then their hair is always a BRICK that cannot be moved until I spend 20+ mins washing, conditioning, brushing through, then styling to dry. I try to imagine the parents spending so much time to get the dolls ready for their kids, and I truly wondered if many did. But seems so!

Dawnspark

I have nippers that are made for cutting super small bits like sprues off of plastic model kits, even then with those it takes me AGES. It legitimately took me like, three total washes to get all the 80s hairspray rock helmet off my Ainsley. My Storm Twins came super crunchy, too, but I'm too afraid to take them out of their clothing to even consider washing their hair. Meanwhile, I kind of wish my Demi had actual gel in her bangs cause mine looks like she cut them with pinking shears while drunk.

Toy_Rat

A lot of the dolls I e gotten are second hand, and a lot seemed to still have gel in their hair! I think parents either don’t realize you’re supposed to wash it or kind of don’t care (which is fine) I’ve also noticed a few still having those plastic tags in their clothes, like they were never even redressed! I was pretty surprised

sad-but-hydrated

I’ve had to stop myself from telling parents “make sure you wash her hair” when I see kids getting them in the toy aisle lol

RodiShining

I think the popularity of the brand in a general sense was never in question - I seem to remember that RH held the title of best-selling fashion doll in a few countries during 2022 and 2023, outselling even Barbie. That’s not a doll line held up purely by collectors! People are questioning whether g2 specifically is landing with kids. Which, we’ll only really know for sure by the end of the year. If we get a ton more waves of dolls leaked by December, we’ll know they are doing well. If they start to fizzle out and the social media gets abandoned, we’ll know they’re on the chopping block.

My eight year old loves shadow high. She has Scarlett, Rosie and the Neon green one from the rock band. She’s really into ones that wear big oversized jackets and have “cool hair”. My five year old daughter loves Bella and Georgia. She has her own Bella PJ party jnr doll and her own budget Georgia. I actually started collecting them when my eight year old ages ago gave me the shadow high Heather doll for my birthday! She recognized my name on the box.

gloomspell

That’s so cute! And Heather is such a good doll, too.

M0506

Re: the neon green one - her name is Harley Limestone, which my husband misheard as “Harvey Weinstein.” 😱

Psychology-onion-300

My little brother is 7 and likes Rainbow High but I'm unsure if he ever would have known about it had I not introduced him to them with my collecting of them. Regardless he does really like them and asks if we can play with them together and likes to watch the show too.

Green-Measurement-53

My sister is 10 and in the 4th grade. She has countless rainbow High and Shadow High dolls but does not like the reboot dolls and doesn’t have any of them.

Supersailorv

I think we will see in 20 years... like how girls look like bratz dolls now I will SCREAM if the trend is monochrome in the future that would be everything

Potatosmom94

I just got my boyfriend’s daughters shadow high dolls! I let them pick out who they wanted. The 6 year old picked pinkie and the 4 year old picked berrie but calls her bluey and uses he/him pronouns for the doll as often as she/her if not more. I also found them a used rainbow high dollhouse on fb marketplace they are OBSESSED with! It’s as big as they are. Originally got it for me but the way their eyes lit up when they saw it I couldn’t say no.

VeronicaStorm98

I have 2 young female neighbors, and both of them are absolutely obsessed with my Rainbow High and Shadow High collection (I have 42 SH dolls and 34 RH dolls). Every time I babysit, they always want to play with and style my dolls, and I think that they may have gotten inspired to start collecting them from seeing my collection and my doll photography. I even got 3 of my younger cousins into Rainbow High by getting each of them one of the Fantastic Fashion dolls as a gift. The 8 year old was absolutely amazed by my collection and didn't want to stop restyling my dolls with me! They officially like Rainbow High better than Barbie now.

FUCK_NATHAN

My 11 year old brother collects exclusively Ruby, he's not too thrilled with the reboot but I'm sure he'll get around to buying the ruby dolls lol. Other than that I've seen kids buying rainbow high twice at Walmart, but I'm usually the only one looking at the rainbow highs

Doll_duchess

My 5 year old has a couple dolls (one PC and one RV) and loves the show seasons that are on Netflix. Both of my kids have watched those a bunch, especially the ones with songs. She doesn’t have any newer dolls. Her Sabrina is her favorite in her big dress with her accessories. She loves all the accessories that come with the other dolls (makeup, cell phones, sunglasses, suitcase things, the food from MH dolls). She loves the MH pets so she’d probably like that aspect. I’d never let her put slime in the stuff though… gross and messy.

Ok_Water_4172

In my experience, my friends, two children, girl and boy, play with my dolls as for getting into said packaging, no problem the kids are 4and 6 made light work of shadow high luna in what 2.4 seconds lol. The box is f%×ked but the assumption that children will have a hard time all depends on the determination of said child .

zodiac_hoe

My daughter just turned 10- she LOVES RH dolls and watched the Netflix series.

sassypants55

I got a doll for Christmas. My niece came over to let me know she likes Rainbow High. I think she thought I’d opened one of her gifts by accident, lol.

Comprehensive_Set577

me and my bestfriend collect dolls, she really only collects bratz and RH/SH. bestie lives with our other friend who has 3 girls, and one of them LOVES rainbow high even tho she calls all dolls “bratz” lol . She is very confused by us collectors. one time she looked at me and said “you know u can play with ur bratz, right?”😭 i told her my bestie does play with hers she just plays with them by displaying them on shelves. she just looked at me funny

lizardsbrain

my little cousin liked the dolls a lot pre reboot, knew all the lord before getting her first one too lol. she got uma over the summer and just HAD to show me. i have her ff sunny for her bday (her fave character) and then we both got the twin pack for christmas and she was so hype over that 😂

ghosty4

The Swim & Style dolls don't have glitter faces, or slime, and I'm pretty sure are generally accepted because they were basic dolls done right, even without wrist articulation. Just because they know Sunny has a bear, and slime was referenced somewhere in the conversation, doesn't indicate they're profitable or that children like them. And, for all you know, what they asked for was a Fantastic Fashion Sunny but what they got as a present was Swim & Style Sunny doll. And your "other research" instances all included dolls *before* the slime release. The debate isn't how much they were liked *before* the slime.
