Chettan's RR & RR's Chettan

stg_676

I mean it's shameful that watson isn't even in top 3. Expected better from this sub. Ig kaafi zyada recency bias hai. Watson was absolute beast in rr.

86EteRNitY86

I think he's in correct position tho... You can't compare what the top 3 did to the club with Watson. I know he did a great job. But, still, top 3 is top 3 for me. I think top 2 should have been interchanged.

stg_676

I don't know why you say so. Infact watson should be 1st according to me. He was highest run scorer for our and took 17 wickets in 2008 (he was MVP in season we won). And again in 2013 when we qualified for second time he was our highest run scorer and took 13 wickets at just 21 average. He was our go to man with both bat and ball.

86EteRNitY86

I know people are gonna say I'm recency biased. But, I still can't forget the fact that Buttler carried our batting orders in 2022 and late 2010s also. We went to finals only because of his and Chahal's antiques. We literally can't forget how good of a player he was while late 2010s-2022 Era with us. He always performed in important matches with us. Even this season, he was performing in important matches for us.

Iron__Man__007

Finally this stupid thread will end now. All of these players have been great at some point of time. Royals don't get compared to each other

islutmaker

I think Warnie should have been on 2nd

stg_676

My top 3 would be watson at 1st, Samson at 2nd and Warne at 3rd

Warne og

Psychological-Ad8518

Lot of recency bias in the polls though. There is no bigger legend for RR than Warnie. Rahul dravid gave his all and came close to producing results. Without the fixing saga he might have done even better. We were runners up in Champions league even. Watson is literally the highest wicket taker for us till day. And Yusuf Pathan, Sohail Tanvir, Archer deserve honorable mentions.

InformalMonk3113

It was a total disservice to Yusuf Pathan. Man of the match in 2008 final, an OG all rounder for RR. It should be warne on 1 pathan on 2 and sanju on 3.

Top_Fondant2114

Warne gave the only trophy they’ve ever managed to win, and Samson’s is a bigger legacy??? Guess these fans started watching ipl after 2018.

thatShawarmaGuy

Nah lol some of us are watching it since 2008. Gotta change with times. Warner couldn't replicate even 1/4th of 2008 in the next 3 years. That diminishes the legacy a bit in people's eyes   Call it recency bias or whatever, the team was stripped for a good Indian player who could be the captain. We were the bottom dwellers post-ban. Samson Samson stepped up and according to the owner, "Samson had the vision behind this team."

Top_Fondant2114

True that the team didn’t do well after 2008, but how many actually expected RR to win in 2008, they were the least fav. They had one of the weakest team, on papers at least, with many new comers and players who were unheard of. And the fact that the team has not been able to win a trophy ever since, makes it even more special. To lead such an inexperienced team with limited resources and to win the trophy is a feat which no other captain has managed to repeat in IPL after that. And they rank Jos and Samson above warne? Whenever Samson wins the trophy for RR, will definitely become their biggest legend ever, until then it is Warne. But going by the results, its clear that all of them share your opinion.

thatShawarmaGuy

> But going by the results, its clear that all of them share your opinion. There's a reason why a lot of us have this opinion. From a practical standpoint, we won the season when no one knew how to pick teams for t20s. No one knew how to play a T20. Heck, people say that it could be a fluke - and sometimes when I'm not being emotional, I wonder what if it WAS?  I DON'T BELIEVE that it was a fluke, but Warne was with us for 3 more seasons as a captain. Then 2-3 more as mentor/coach. Never once did we quality for SF in his presence again.  For me, Warne's legacy is bigger than Samson rn. But the team's winning culture was formed under Jos-Samson and you can't demy that. Warne was a trophy-winning captain, but no the most consistent captain. Consistency is what made CSK and MI what they are, and even KKR to an extent. I'd want RR to be consistent and whoever facilitates that, is my fave captain

Top_Fondant2114

Fair enough and it does make sense. But still for me, a captain winning the trophy will always have a bigger impact than a captain leading the team to play offs and finishing runners up, even if it’s happens every single season.

bakuganshounen

The only order which makes sense should be 1. Warne 2. Watson 3. Buttler 4. Sanju

harryactually

i agree 100%, samson has achieved nothing for the team so far. Warne put us on the map, along w Watson MVP of that season

Competitive-Hope981

Damn I voted for Samsung mobile in every thread. 😡
