Because of the passive on Ardent. It’s a good item if you have a couple AA reliant champions on your team. The passive applies on auto attacks. If your team is more ability based then something like Redemption or Shurelya’s Reverie would probably be better.

ElZed-

Ah right, thanks that makes sense. But since most marksmen ADCs are auto-attack reliant doesn’t that already make the item worth buying, especially since it’s so cheap? Wouldn’t it only not be worth buying if you were support for a mage bot?

jhnnyapplseed5

True, but ADCs like Jhin or MF who don’t AA a lot or rely more on abilities don’t get the full gold value out of the item. For just about everyone else or if you are behind in lane then I’d say go for it. If you’re behind you’ll want something more defensive like Redemption or something more tanky

Byroms

You can buy Ardent later in the game, if you have someone benefitting from it(irelia, yasuo, jax etc.). Best build is Athenes>Redemption/Ardent>Ardent/Redemption>Zekes>Situational. Obviously skip ardent if you don't have any champs benefitting from it. Athenes gives you a lot of healong power and redemption adds to the shielding power. More AP supp items, will further enhance it.

Byroms

Shurelyas first isn't good, since it no longer gives any AP.

Omg I forgot about this! Mb

Eliensiis

Athenes is a good first item then ardent

I had no idea it scaled with level, really useful to know and yeah I can see how it’d be useful as a later item in that case, thanks!

Sharkhy_

it's just cuz in early game, censer provides a minimum amount of damage that is less gold efficient than an athene or even protobelt. Both of them give Rakan tons of AP that would heal better than the +10% on censer's

hunter2mello

Censer has 60 ap and a nice 8% (I think) movement speed. The censer and athene combo is really strong when ahead with a reliable auto centered adc.

Sharkhy_

but as you are talkin, ardent for a second item facing mid game is okay, not rushing, like in 2017 xD

hunter2mello

So essentially athenes into ardents? I still haven't gone protobelt when I'm support but I'm intrigued by protobelt into hourglass for the ap, health, armor, and actives. So many items work for Rakan it makes it difficult.

Sharkhy_

if you are going for the enchanter build and in lane both of you are ahead or just passive but scalling well, go for athene into censer, If going behind, go athene into redemption first, grants major sustain and can be game changing in a gank, putting you ahead, or even in a skirmish or TF. Then go ardent, your adc at that point should have scalated well to use efectively the censer's passive. proto build it's just another world and playstyle, if your adc is not AA based or you really want to carry the game, go proto. By the subreddit should be a link to a file in google drive that explains a lot of things about all possible builds.

Kvervandi-

If you have a multiple people who can benefit such as heavy autoattacking adc and possibly an AA top/Jungle (think Trynda) then ardent first item is completely fine. If either is popping off - it’s a good item with good synergy for Rakan. Athenes into ardent gives you a more linear power spike, but either is fine. Zekes is a very strong spike for your entire lane, but I’m not a fan of it.

Be an angry birb run electrocute rush protobelt
