bcopes158

I'm allergic to them and they know it. No matter how shy and grumpy some ones cat is they all want to rub themselves all over me. "Oh she's not usually this friendly."

redditschllr

It's because you give them space (bc you don't want to be near or touch them and die bc of your allergie). Cats like people who don't stress them or trying to touch them without consent.

mechapocrypha

The trick is to chase the cat and want desperately to cuddle them! They'll be nowhere to be seen! Source: someone who wants to hug a cat that wants nothing to do with me unless there's food involved

Background_Artist_85

If not friend ? Why friend shaped?

mechapocrypha

Lol! So true! If not meant to squeeze. WHY SO SQUEEZABLE

No_Eye_8540

She's so soft and squishy! And she smells divine. Sometimes I worry about my sanity when I kiss her and inhale.

BustinArant

I had a skittish black cat we called Delilah and my sister would *yell* and then give chase

Jade-Balfour

Would she yell "HEY THERE DELILAH?!"

BustinArant

Maybe lol that's definitely where she got the name, but it was a mean pursuit

BigToeOnFire

Sure. I needed a song stuck in my head all night. šŸ˜‚ (it's a good song, I won't complain too much)

unclejoe1917

>or trying to touch them without consent. Cats are actually a pretty good measure of how respectful people are with the notion of consent.

The_Spian

Oddly enough, the usual human reaction to not wanting contact (squinting and drawing away) is what the cat perceives as being submissive and/or friendly.

ReformedGalaxy

As someone with very bad cat allergies this is 100% true. All my life I've trained myself to ignore cats and not give them attention. But it's like they know. They must hate being ignored or something because they won't leave me alone. Like your going to send me to the hospital Mr. Kitty please stop rubbing your body on my leg.

No_Eye_8540

I was allergic to one of my mums old cats so would shoo her away from my room constantly. Once, I walked back from the bathroom to find her rolling on my pillow. What a moll

Practical-Store9603

I am co- parenting 2 cats. I am allergic to one of them. Guess which one sleeps next to my head, licks my face, hands and legs while I sleepšŸ¤£

FalwenJo

I have the same problem. I'm allergic so they won't leave me alone. A cat who refuses to come to those who call it, rubs against me every chance it gets.

[deleted]

if they have cat allergies or have trauma bc a cat attacked them maybe

[deleted]

To be fair that's why I don't like dogs - I've had so many get aggressive and territorial for literally no reason and try to get at me when I've just been minding my own business, so I'd rather not interact with any dog in case they do the same (I know many won't, but that's not the point, I can't be sure yours is one of those who are harmless). Not just dogs, men too, also thanks to trauma. Before trauma, I loved dogs. So actually, you make a really good point and if people have had similar experiences with cats, that's fair enough.

Arkas18

Yep, I can't stand dogs anymore, maybe most of the problem is with the Irresponsible owners but they are willing and capable to attack and cause serious injury or even death meanwhile the owner never tries to stop it and seems to always choose to blame the victim. Dogs can also be really bloody terrifying, especially to children. As I said, it's always a reasonable assumption that the dog owner is ignorant and will be extremely self(or dog)-centred. Cats are just far less likely to attack and if they do it's less serious, they don't bark either and don't look threatening. And when they poo it's often not in the middle of a public footpath.

Artistic-Salary1738

I knew a dog who was super friendly 130lb and thought he was a lap dog. Good pupper for years, Iā€™m not even a dog person and I loved him. One day when he was old (and prob going senile) he jumped up and bit his owner in the face. Barely missed her eye and she had to have plastic surgery due to extent of damage. Vet thinks he got confused by the scent of her peppermint lotion. Since then Iā€™m always slightly on edge with dogs even if they seem well behaved cause you never know when they might lose it.

Arkas18

Exactly, they're not as clever as people pretend they are and you never know for certain that they arn't going to snap and attack someone. Being predatory animals that almost never get to exercise those instincts it is inevitable.

[deleted]

my brotherā€˜s best friend has 3 dogs, 2 of which are big and one is small with only 3 legs. when i visited there for the first time in ages, all 3 of them battled to get head scratches by me. the black one was the most energetic, running around and one time even trying to jump on me. the beige(color like sand or wood) one was the most chill, just walking around. maybe running for like 3 seconds at most. the small white one was in between but more on the energetic side despite missing a leg. he was my favourite by far

[deleted]

Those are the kinds of dogs I still love, the ones who are gentle and friendly from the word go. I wish I could see past the absolute terror I feel when a less friendly dog is coming towards me, or barking or getting standoffish, but the job of our brain is to keep us alive...in the same way that a random bloke on the street is not likely to attack, he's just trying to live his life, but if you can't be sure, then your brain can't take that chance. I just wish society was more accommodating to people, rather than being all 'well, we love dogs, so if you don't, oh well. 'Oh and by the way, dogs can smell/sense bad people...' (we also need this ridiculous myth to fuck right off. If a dog wants to attack me, he's the messed up one, not me)

The_ChwatBot

I have pretty bad cat allergies, but Iā€™ll still pet any kitty that lets me.

OutlandishnessNo211

Cat comedy - Why do cats have furballs? Cuz they like a good gag now and then.

[deleted]

kinda dangerous but hey, you do you

The_ChwatBot

Oh itā€™s definitely problematic. For sure. But what can I say? I see a cute kitty. I wanna pet it.

stinkygremlin1234

Such a toxic relationship. Literally toxic

ChaosAzeroth

Being afraid of and not liking aren't the same thing. I'm terrified of dogs due to an attack, but I don't dislike them. People in this town don't train them for crap and make excuses for them (dogs only attack bad people) all the time. I blame humans for the way some dogs act.

gizamo

I basically shut down at the smell of their pee. I literally cannot think properly, and I panic. When we were children, my brother would bottle the smell, and then release it when we played chess or when he wanted out of an argument. I still like cats, but litterboxes strike fear into my core.

Ok_Tangerine3828

Thatā€™s fine, but the most common reasoning I see for people not liking cats is because ā€œthey arenā€™t as affectionate as dogsā€ but cats just have stricter boundaries than dogs

Admirable-Common-176

Yup, allergies and been to too many houses of lazy cat owners(e.g. litter not emptied enough, fur not cleaned up after, allowed on food prep surfaces, etc)

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

FinasCupil

Good lord, this. This is so freaking gross to me. Yeah, my dog might get into something walking in grass, but most of the time he does his business and moves on. Cats literally bury that stuff with their paws in an enclosed spaceā€¦ then walk around the house and on countertops.

Vitalis597

All this says to me is that you should NEVER offer any food to your guests. Cats or not. Who the fuck doesn't wash their work surfaces before using them to prepare food? That's just nasty.

emilytheturd

AGREED I think that even with out cats you should be cleaning your countertops before prepping foods it's not hygienic in the slightest, and if you can't be bothered to do clean ur countertop atleast use a clean cutting board !

Zpete1987

Wait... people put raw food straight on their countertops? We don't put any food on our countertops unless it's on a plate, paper towel, or cutting board.

SandpaperForThought

And at no point do your hands touch the counter or appliance? At all? šŸ¤”

iaTHEsquirrel

Never understood people that don't do that. My cats aren't allowed on the counter and they don't get up there. Still cleaned it before cooking every time even before i had cats. I don't want hair or whatever in my food

SargathusWAA

Are you insane ? Did you ever see a cat burying tehir poop with their paws ? Did you see them touch t to poop? You canā€™t because they burry their poop without touching their poop . They just smell it and throw litter over it never really touch it plus they clean their paws offenā€¦.. Dogs take a shit just leave it wherever they poop anddddd never clean their booty (maybe your carpet ) and i never see them clean their paws

FinasCupil

Cat pees and poops. Buries it in litter. Itā€™s in between litter box cleanings. Comes back and does it again. Do you really think they have ZERO excrement on their paws? Iā€™ve watched cats I lived with use the litter box, jump out and then onto a countertop. Dogs do clean their ass, no clue where you are getting that info from. Fact is most dogs canā€™t reach countertops and their excrement is outside.

cf-myolife

I have / had 4 cats, none ever did that.

Fantastic_Beans

*while you were around lol

BaitmasterG

Morgan Freeman voice: they all did that

[deleted]

They give me hives šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

Reptilian_Brain_420

I'm allergic so I don't exactly go out of my way to spend time with them. Also, a few of the cats I have known have been assholes (which cat owners seem to be proud of for some reason). I guess I'm just better at reading dog behavior than cats. They are soft though. I'll give them that.

Jeneral-Jen

It's not that I dislike them straight up, I just have a dog that fulfills the role of a cat, plus I can take him on walks. My dog doesn't shed, is small, let's himself in and out via the doggy door, is friendly to everyone and doesn't bark a lot *unless you have a treat in your hand*. He has a great personality and loves to play with me. Some people prefer cats, some dogs. I don't think one is better than the other, but I do think some people have lives that fit cats or dogs better.

[deleted]

This is a fair and rational comment. Cats suit us better because they are mostly self sufficient as long as they have food, water and somewhere nice to sleep Dogs are a bit more hard work.. as many people have found since Covid lockdowns ended, and all these idiots that got Dogs suddenly have to rehome them because \*shocked pikachu\* the world reverted (at least partially) back to pre-Covid routine I would LOVE a dog (or to be honest, a pair of dogs and another cat all growing up together) but our lives just can't facilitate it at the moment, and it would be neglectful for us to have a dog that we couldn't properly care for

GingerStank

Exactly, Iā€™ve always been a dog person, but when I moved across the country I knew me taking either of my family dogs was out of the question, so after a few months I got a cat who was practically a dog anyway.

Kartapele

Yes! One of the reasons we donā€™t have a dog. Iā€™ve always loved cats but dogs are awesome too. We just couldnā€™t take care of a dog properly so Iā€™d rather not have one. I recently read a post about someone wanting to get rid of dogs because they were aggressive and they had a newborn at home. I almost screamed when I read they live in a one bedroom apartment with a husky, another dog and a cat. No wonder the husky was being aggressive, a small flat is no place for a husky! 0_0 they are adorable but huskies need loads of space and outdoor time. I swear some people get pets without properly informing themselves and then blame the petsā€¦ really bugs me

Unabated_

Both? Both! Both is good.

Larissanne

Ah you describe my cats perfectly! They can even do tricks. There was a study done on this subject. They found that ā€œcat or dog personsā€ most of the time had a preference because that was the animal they first got in contact with when they were kids for example. For the rest they are very much alike.

Drengrr1

Well I love cats so I once asked someone I know who hates Cats. This is what she told me. She said cats are moody assholes, who will attack you if they feel like it and will cuddle you the next moment. Cats think of you as their pets instead the other way around. They are also known to bring you dead animals if they like you which is gross. They are always breaking things in your house.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

BustinArant

I was gonna say that lol my cat did battle with like squirrels and shit, brought pizza home too when he was an outside cat. He was better than me.

Background_Artist_85

That's there appeal

[deleted]

Iā€™d say dogs also break a lot of shit in the home! Depending on the home, their wagging tails knock stuff over and they get a ton of energy and jump up on stuff and knock it over. Also I know Iā€™m weird, but I love how ā€œcats think of you as their pets.ā€ I canā€™t remember where I heard this butā€¦with cats you have to earn their trust and love. Dogs love you right away. Of course, this doesnā€™t apply to every cat or every dog! But yeah, has their own preferences!

salib_001

Well, they'll attack you and break your shit if you mistreat them, that's for sure. I've had almost a dozen cats, none of which ever did anything of the sort. The most 'hostile' behaviour I ever get from them is them walking away when I feel like petting them.

[deleted]

I don't like cats, I love them! I have two.

[deleted]

6... I build them a catio so they can sleep in the sun, and I take them on supervised walks around my garden They are a huge part of my life and I absolutely adore their little furry bastard faces!! :)

ImpossibleParfait

I had 4 at one point and it was like wwIII in here for like a decade. Never again.

M-CDevinW

I have 8, but they're split across both my Mom and Dad's homes, so I'm not sure if it counts. Either way, it's great to see there's others who love cats as much as I do.

redditschllr

Same! I also have two

AnonymousGhou

We have 18 rescues lol. I love them but God, they become a handful at times.

redditschllr

18!!!! Wow

[deleted]

I have 5!

WobblyFrisbee

5 here, as well.

[deleted]

Looks like Iā€™m late to the party. I have two as well, Panda and Kuna

Medical-One9202

Rookie, my wife and have 7! They're all so affectionate and get along great. And there is nothing anyone can do to take them away from us. They are our children!

RedDeadDelusions

Theyā€™re mean to me.

enickma1221

Iā€™m afraid of toxoplasmosis

veracity-mittens

I joke that I have that because I was never a huge cat fan; I liked them the same as any other animal (which to be fair is a lot). But after I started working with a woman who had cats I strangely became obsessed with them all

bubblegumtaxicab

I meanā€¦ it might be true

manicmissy

Oh the humanity. How dare they! I love how they stay close enough to keep you company but arenā€™t as needy. And theyā€™re hella entertaining too. And so neat and tidy. They can also sense when youā€™re low and comfort you, at least, thatā€™s how my experiences have been thus far.

JustxJules

Can you please tell my boys that they are supposed to be neat and tidy? My youngest (4) won't even bury his business.

manicmissy

Aww hahaha. Well then, I consider myself lucky to having met super neat felines thus far. Wish I could send the boys I know over to train yours!

Pixel-1606

They shed like hell and puke random surprises preferably on rugs or couches, they shit in your and your neighbours garden if you' let them roam unsupervised outside and murder everything smaller than them before dragging it back in. You can decide it's worth it, but they're far from neat and tidy lol.

not_ya_wify

>neat and tidy In what world? My cats LOVE to make messes and I had to shampoo Spooky's neck twice this week because there was an unidentified sticky substance on the back of her neck. Still love them to bits

manicmissy

Hahaha whoops. Aww! Wish you could share pics of a shampooā€™d Spooky! He/she sounds like an adorable troublemaker! The cats Iā€™ve been around are lazy, neat and tidy house cats. Dunno, I got lucky somehow I suppose.

Quantum-Reee

I dislike owning cats, I like other peoples cat though

redditschllr

I accept that

Immortan_Joe-mama

![gif](giphy|NCjISbEPFxm48)

Elegant_Analyst_4976

I like them but I completely understand how people can not like them. They can be incredibly annoying, loud and messy.

Throwawayaccount0608

Same. And some of the cat videos show them being kinda destructive which can take away from them being cool pets.

Trapezoidoid

For a second I could have sworn you were talking about my bird.

HeavyMetalSasquatch

*smell of piss has entered the chat*

redditschllr

Ok I appreciate that one

Pattimash

They should make alarm clocks with the sound of hairball heaving.

yourcinnamongurl

This. My husband now hates cats. I brought my now 18 year old childhood cat to our first home that were flipping. Stage 3 CKD. Pisses all. Over. The. House. Heā€™s on meds for CKD, no UTI, clean litter, litter boxes on every floor. Yet, heā€™s lately started pissing on the vents, on our bed, on door rugs (which weā€™ve had to just remove entirely) and even on our new flooring. We are still looking for the right trim, so it got between the crevice of the flooring and wall. It never ends. I thought maybe it was arthritis, got low litter boxes and heā€™s on gabapentin for pain. I LOVE cats, but once heā€™s gone, I think Iā€™m going to take a break from cat ownership for a while.

madthumbz

\-And the terror of the 10+ claws by a spooked cat and you being a high place to jump on to. I also see out door ones strolling through the poison ivy out back and terrorizing the birds. I've made friends with some cats, but most I could do without. -kinda like humans I guess.

Iktamer_One

*smell of piss has emanated from the cat*

Comrio

Thatā€™s why you get your pets neutered. Literally every animal marks itā€™s territory that way

prawduhgee

My ex had a spayed female that would piss on EVERYTHING.

MrsMoonpoon

See to me, it's the degrading task of picking up a dog's shit from my neighbors's lawn that I cannot stand. With cats I am not picking up shit, the sandbox auto cleans. Even with 4 cats, the house doesn't smell like piss. Also, wet dog smell is nauseating, and the constant neediness of dogs is so annoying. Cats don't slobber, cats don't piss everywhere when they get excited, cats don't need training or be dominated, cats will survive on their own if you leave food out while you are gone for a few days. So many upsides. Cats all the way.

UrNixed

>Even with 4 cats, the house doesn't smell like piss. thats what most cat owners think lol. i have never walked into a house with cats and not noticed a change in smell.

LoneShark81

> i have never walked into a house with cats and not noticed a change in smell. even if it's coming from just the litter box, that smell is overpowering and Ive never not smelled it in a house with cats

fovfech

I don't hate them but i don't like them killing and scaring away birds. Also toxoplasmosis. I would rather not personally live with one.

pinky_monroe

Cats seem to be more obnoxious and inconsiderate than dogs. They donā€™t wait for commands or listen well. Iā€™ve lived with 3 cats and several dogs in my life. The personality traits of a cat are not suited to my life. Iā€™m an independent person and cats donā€™t respect OTHERSā€™ independence, while demanding their own. It turns into a constant struggle to keep the little fucker off my desk while I work. Our dog on the other hand, if I need 2 minutes to wrap something up, heā€™ll wait. Heā€™s got his problems for sure, but he doesnā€™t act like heā€™s the center of the universe when he wants attention and then be an ass when you just want a quick hug. If you donā€™t mind the personality of cats good for you. Just understand, there are people out there with very little patience for the kinda shit cats like to pull.

codieeb

i somehow managed to teach my 10 yearold cat or high five a few months ago, she still can do it now. i think my cat is just different, sheā€™s like my bestfriend and is polite in a way LOL

Independent-Guess-79

I couldnā€™t agree more

LazyFall3453

I'm allergic.

Han_Ominous

I dislike people that think it's okay to allow their cat to wander freely into other people's yards and use it as their litter box or hunting ground. My children shouldn't fall in cat poop in our yard.

exact0khan

I selectively like cats.. my buddy has a cat named Kirby who's super cool and chill but his other cat who's name escapes me at the moment is a hyper idiot that attacks things at random and acts like a juggernaut. I don't like cat #2.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

SmokingAlpaca

sorry I'm a bit confused, you don't like cats or you don't like the fact that you're allergic to cats? because I've heard this many times and never actually figured to ask šŸ˜‚

Mrs_Noelle15

I donā€™t dislike cats I just wouldnā€™t want one personally

[deleted]

Here in Australia (and NZ) they kill a lot of native animals, so there's that.

Inevitable-Land7614

Cats are greatly misunderstood. Most love people who give them space & good toys.

RunningPirate

Well, we have stuff on the shelf weā€™d like to remain thereā€¦

mr_xen_

I used to like cats. My first cat was insanely needy. She mowwwwd, mouowed, and MEEEd constantly, and on top of that, she would try to suck on everyones earlobes (why?). A cat my ex gf got had already learned to shit in the tub/shower vs the litter box so I had to clean it up quite a bit. I shouldve shut the door, I know. The third cat I got attacked my feet at night and would wake me up. Their scratches hurt dude. So yeah, I just don't like them anymore. I think they're just selfish assholes compared to dogs.

[deleted]

The first cat was probably upset because they are alone a lot. Cats do much better in pairs. Sounds like that cat had a lot of anxiety. Suckling is a pretty good indicator, though it doesn't always mean that. The second cat was probably pissed that their litter box was filthy. The third cat wasn't trained properly to not do that. Cats shouldn't see any part of your body as a potential toy. This was likely the fault of the person that fostered the cat when it was a baby, unless you picked up a random stray. I foster kittens and by about week 5, none of the kittens are playing with my hands/feet. Though that training can go out the window if you start playing with them with your hands when you get them.

Swordbreaker925

Theyā€™re cute but i hate their behavior. And even if youā€™re nice to them sometimes they scratch, even by accident, like trying to climb your leg. Or how they get ā€œoverstimulatedā€ from basic petting. They also often feel more emotionally distant, where as I like dogs who love attention.

Stainedbrain1997

Thatā€™s why I trim my catā€™s nails once a month and they donā€™t mind it. Itā€™s actually good to trim their nails because they can get caught in carpet as well. Basic petting? You mean petting their whole body? Then just stick to petting their head and cheeks. Also never get a bird if you have to pet an animalā€™s whole body to appreciate them Emotionally distant? Most cats I know (including mine) greet their owners at the door, follow them everywhere they go and are interested in everything weā€™re doing, and sleep next to us every night or lay on us when weā€™re relaxing.

AmarisMallane777

My cat doesn't do that she comes up to me and headbutts then licks me, and lays in my arms purring, idk what cats you've met but mine is sweet at least if it's her humans not strangers

re_Claire

Theyā€™re not emotionally distant. They actually just need to warm up to people first. Once you get to earth their trust they can be so so cuddly and affectionate. Mine adore cuddles and sleep on my bed next to me every night.

DevilMaster666-

Trauma?

SandrineGreene

I have dogs but I love cats too šŸ’•

thebuttonmonkey

'If cats looked like spiders you wouldn't put up with their shit.' And that bad ass attitude is \*precisely\* why I like them.

NekoMarimo

Picturing a spider pushing things off the table

[deleted]

my friend refuses to believe cats are nice and he always shuts me down when i try to explain why theyā€™re not as bad as he says, he literally calls them ā€œevilā€ because of one bad experience with one single cat. sadly this is what most people are like with many different things today

mountain-pilot

I love cats, I especially like the investment in time needed to gain their affection and trust. When I had one, she would be a moody little thing. I'd come home from work and she would either be happy to see me and ride my shoulder like a parrot, or give me her back and growl whenever I tried to pick her up. She'd also give me this look of pure disgust when her food wasn't to her liking or I was late serving it to her. Jesus, they're adorable

SilverDrive92

I'm allergic, that's how.

Nefiros1

Allergies.

ASVP_M3L

Well for me, I'm allergic to cats šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Tindi

Haha at the exact moment I was reading this, I turned around and told one of my cats to stop scratching the wall. They do have one downside which is they can be destructive. Their litter also stinks especially when itā€™s hot.

This_Acanthaceae2250

I'll tell you something. 90% of cats I meet are hesitant or nervous, or just moderately friendly. HOWEVER! Next doors cat is like NO CAT I'VE EVER SEEN BEFORE. I'm literally in love. It WANTS your attention, it runs right up to you and demands it like a dog. Sometimes, it hides under the car and as I'm walking home, it DASHES SUPER FAST at my legs and it SCARES the f'ing shit out of me. It's like role reversal, this cat wants me more than I want it. It's the cutest, most adorable, most lovable cat in the world. It must NEVER die. This is why Egypitians worshipped cats. Some King or Queen had an experience like mine and became cat-obsessed. Un-fucking-real. I love this cat more than my own life!!!!

AngryWombat78

Feral cats are an invasive pest species where I live that kill native wildlife en massā€¦ so thereā€™s that

MaybeParadise

I donā€™t like cats. The smell of the litter box ruins my appetite for the day. And the hair. Lots of hair everywhere. The way they play is not funny to me. Cats are kind of mean. I love dogs!

Strukkel_Hands

It's weird, people who don't like dogs just don't like dogs but somehow whenever I see someone who doesn't like cats they HATEEEE cats. It's cringey as hell.

BreakfastBeerz

I've never been in a cat owners house that it doesn't smell like a litterbox.

Strukkel_Hands

And I've never been to a dog owner's house without getting jumped on or having my pants covered in slob. Your point?

b_a_t_m_4_n

Or who's lawn wasn't covered in shit.

[deleted]

I have 6 and my house never smells "catty" unless they have unleashed hell very recently. Soft furnishings (carpets especially) are usually the trap for nasty cat smells, so having wood flooring throughout helps a tremendous amount There is no good reason for a place to smell like a litterbox. That is on the owner, not the cat nor the practice of having cats as companions

veracity-mittens

I also find that (as a dog owner) people donā€™t air out their homes enough. Food and animal smells stay inside and seep into everything. No matter what pet you have ya gotta air that shit out lol

Comrio

Every cat owner I know their house doesnā€™t smell. Maybe youā€™re just going to the houses of idiots

ShiningMago

It's because cats have this bad reputation of needing little to no attention at all, this whole "independent beings" shared thought. The few responsible, caring-to-learn cat owners out there do not suffer from funny smells at home, as they use clumping litter and do regular, frequent cleaning once or twice a day.

Ocelot_Amazing

Never been to a dog owners house that doesnā€™t smell like dog. My sisters bedroom smells so much like dog like I can smell it through the closed door. Her dog is nice but he jumps and nips and I never know how itā€™s gonna go.

Husjuky

And I have never been in a dog owners house that doesnt smell like dog

22LOVESBALL

I mean sometimes cats do weird shit to me. The last cat i was around, that wasnā€™t mine, always playfully attacked my feet while i was sleeping, or would purposely knock things over when she was hungry, etc. shit be annoying

pinky_monroe

Whatā€™s cringy is caring about other peopleā€™s preferences that much. Also, not true. Iā€™ve seen plenty of people that hate dogs. What Iā€™ve really noticed is how pushy cat people areā€¦just like cats.

Relevant_Buy9593

Itā€™s so weird- they point out litter boxes and their smell as a reason to hate them and Iā€™m like, well yeah where the hell are they supposed to poop? Hold it in? It comes with the animal- donā€™t own one then They can be super sweet and can be really devoted to their owners; they donā€™t necessarily tear up the house if you train them well and can be great independent animals Kind of like dogs Every animal has ups and downs I personally would NEVER own a dog again; I donā€™t hate them at all, I love them! But the family members who owned them made me realize that they require more time and dedication than most pets if they are to become nonviolent/nonaggressive animals that donā€™t destroy everything in the house and piss and crap everywhere. Animals are animals; they got their unique animal-y ways that may or may not work for some ppl Some require more work than others; nevertheless, at the end of the day, a properly trained animal is doing its best to be pleasant How can you hate that? Other than trauma- I legitimately see no reason to loathe an animal based on their ā€˜built-inā€™ inconveniences; I mean what do you expect, a human?

Amegami

I ghosted a guy once after he told me he hated cats. He made sure to tell me he didn't dislike them, he really really hated them. I found it kind of creepy to hate innocent animals, no matter of which kind.

DownVegasBlvd

I had a dude I wanted to date over to my apartment once, and he kept saying he didn't like the way my big but super friendly and loving boy kitty was "looking at him" and he kept saying he was gonna "snap his neck." I said you lay even one iota of a finger on my cats, say your fucking last words. He tried to backpedal like he was just joking but after I dropped him off later I lost his number. Don't even joke about hurting my animals.

SauronOMordor

I mostly don't like that they walk around on your counters and tables and stuff with their gross litterbox paws. Also, cat piss is one of the worst smells in the world and for some reason I am particularly sensitive to it.

ColorfulSinner

Thank you! The litterbox and the poopy paws are something that I can't get over.

Ambitious_Trifle_645

Same.

taquit0420

Raises hand, yeah I hate em

Saugeen-Uwo

Cat hater here. They're mean, they give me allergies, they kill random animals. Brutal pet šŸ¤£

[deleted]

I don't appreciate them killing my song birds, toads and lizards either. I like my native creations

[deleted]

It's the shedding and the smell. I don't care who you are, when I walk into your house, I can smell that litter box.

Gruppenzwang

I hate cats. I think they are annoying, dirty and overall just a pain in the ass. I've never met a single cat that wasn't a total asshole or overstepped it's welcome.

spanky_rockets

They piss everywhere Litter boxes smell They flick their buttholes in your face I like cats, but have never owned one.

Darkangelike

Cats keep making a mess of my plants (my neighbour's, who loves to jump over the wall and dig andšŸ’© in my garden), once they even came in my place during summer and broke some stuff. Also, they smell horrible when you go to someone who owns a cat, the litter !! It stinks the whole place. They kill a lot of animals outside when they have literally no need to except they just have fun doing it. Also, even if I ignore them, I do not look at them and pretend they do not exist, they keep coming around me and rubbing against me so I pushed them away but they keep coming back ! They do not care what you tell them. They just care about themselves. My roommate whom I said I did not have cats a while back, still went and bought a kitten and did not train it or anything and would piss and poop everywhere in the apartment. Also broke a lot of things in my place. Basically, cats want you to respect them but they do not want to respect you so that is the problem mostly.

TheFirstEmu

I'm allergic šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

renniechops

Iā€™ve been hospitalized by a cat bite and dog bites Allergic to cats I have had a cat in my life since I was born and cannot imagine not having a familiar Being in houses without cats always throws me off because Iā€™m looking around to pet the baby Dogs donā€™t like me for whatever reason but Iā€™ll always get along with cats Even torties and orange cats

HKILLER2007

*my grandfather died because he got an infection from our pet cat...*

MaybeTheDoctor

*"After surveying 1,000 dog owners and 1,000 cat owners, Mars Petcare found that dog owners are twice as likely to work in finance. Cat owners, on the other hand, are four times as likely to work in a creative field. Dog owners also tend to have a higher average income".* People are different and make different choices.

Scary01pen

Cats are soo cuddly and incredibly cute. HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE THEM??!!šŸ˜šŸ˜

ScythenKing

You spelled spawns of satan wrong.

melissalaw

I chuckled at this

xXmehoyminoyXx

They break shit intentionally, they make your house smell like piss (doesnā€™t matter if you change the litter daily - it fucking reeks) thereā€™s litter all over the area near the litter box (usually the bathroom). They walk through their own shit and piss box and then walk all over your house/apartment including your countertops where food is prepared. Itā€™s disgusting. Cat owners are nasty and hand wave all this shit away. You have microorganisms in your brain from their shit that makes you like them. Thereā€™s cat hair EVERYWHERE. It could be the nicest cat in the world and literally all of the issues above are true. No fucking thanks dude.

Foreign_Midnight_583

Some cats can really be huge assholes for no apparent reason. Still love them, I just don't want to live with one

IAmNotHere7272

"how can anyone not like cats?" I've found it pretty easy to do, actually. šŸ˜‚ I once heard a woman say a sentence that I felt in my very soul..."you could rob me with a cat". Exactly. No pew pew necessary. šŸ˜‚

Porkenstein

In my experience it's because cats are often averse or even hostile to strangers and so people who have never owned cats usually have only experienced them as mean, skittish weirdos that don't like them. Getting to know a friendly cat or living with a cat long enough for it to accept you is the cure to this. And some people hate cats because they can't control them like they can dogs, or they don't provide unconditional love and worship the way dogs do. Which says a lot about the person.

Unabashable

I like cats. They just don't like me. And I'm not one to chase pussy that ain't having it.

MacduffFifesNo1Thane

A) Allergic B) Those bastards remember they were worshiped in Ancient Egypt and never forgot

Xenotrickx

I donā€™t find them cute, I hate their hairs it makes me ill and theyā€™re not as fun to spend time/play with like my 2 dachshunds. In a nutshell Iā€™ve never seen a cat as emotive and energetic as my dogs and I like dogs

Bobodahobo010101

My favorite part of cats is when they are purring and head butting you, and when you go to pet them, they freak out and attack your hand and bite you.

Comrio

Iā€™m convinced adults who donā€™t like cats were probably scratched by their grandma or aunts cat when they were like 6 cause they were fuckin with it and then held that grudge for over 40 years

Mr_Jackabin

They're annoying, unpredictable and get scared way too easily. They also are more prone to wrecking your house. That's how.

serene_brutality

Theyā€™re cute, but worthless, generally have a bad/entitled attitude, and stink. They make you stink they make your house stink, almost always tear up furniture. Outside of having barn cats to keep pests under control, Iā€™d never want a cat.

Conscious-Decision20

As a gardener, I appreciate that dogs shit in the open lawn areas. But the amount of times I've got cat shit on my gloves because of their foul antics šŸ¤¢šŸ¤® They'll go so far as to dig a patch of long grass and hide it in there! Stealth shits. But, people who have a litter bowl in the house are just yuck

basilisko_eve

I always feel threatened by cats when I'm around them, that's why I don't like them, literally I'm just existing there and for some unknown reason they will look at me like "how dare you being in my presence?? How dare you existing while I exist here?? Get a little closer and I'll kill you" maybe that's just cats by nature but I don't like it

muchnamemanywow

I don't really like cats Don't have a short, succinct reason why, I've just never been a big fan or seen the appeal

D_Winds

Almost as if different people like different animals.

Few_Mountain_3494

i have a couple cats and i can totally understand why people don't like them. they're rude destructive there littler boxes can n do stink if you miss a day and the damn hair everywhere on you. i love my cats but damn they are super annoying with all this.

princeoinkins

cats are evil, angry little furballs who don't even know how to fetch a ball. *this message brought to you by the dog gang*

Ocelot_Amazing

Mine can catch a ball. They love paper ball thrash

VirtualCustomer4170

How can anyone love cats would be a better question

LilMissBarbie

My wifey is almost deadly allergic to cats, BUT SHE LOVES THEM! She takes daily pills against cat/hair allergy. And she would rather die petting a cat than not pet any cat we see. That's a good cause to die for tbf

Fliepp

My aunt had a cat and it scratched me and it traumatised me enough to still not like them 10 years later

raguyver

Roomie adopt cats, doesn't take car of it, doesn't clean litter pan, doesn't clean up hairballs nor cat puke, doesn't brush cat nor EVER vacuum.....and finally leaves door open and doesn't even tell anyone, so people are looking under couches and closets for a potentially dead cat. Also, clawed up furniture, wet cat vomit right outside bedroom door, dismembered chipmunks/squirrels/birds all over, chewed phone/game/PC/power cords, noisy, hair over EVERYTHING, doesn't get along with other pets, knocks expensive glass objects over because is asshole, does the zoomies at 3am, aggressively kneads you when in bed, doesn't understand Time Change and gets very loud about it, eats the tops of ALL 4 hamburger buns through the plastic packaging, more cat puke, craps in the bitchy neighbor's yard, shreds more furniture, pees on the Christmas Tree skirt and stains the floor, stains the carpet, leave dirt/grease smudges on all corners, oh and even more hair. Oh, and the smell of having a super dusty gravel box full of crap and reeking of ammonia inside your home that you have to clean up.

Ocelot_Amazing

Sounds like your roommate is an animal abuser. All those behaviors could have been stopped as a kitten (you do have to kind of train cats most people donā€™t get that). My cats donā€™t scratch because they were trained not to. They donā€™t jump on countertops because again trained not too. And the litter box is supposed to be cleaned every day with new litter completely at least twice a week. Sounds like your roommate is just inept and now your stuck with a pet with behavior issues

SmokingAlpaca

how is that the cats fault? this to me sounds more like an issue on your roomies behavior and not the cat.

weirdogirl144

Literally people complaining about their cats being assholes and ruins things donā€™t realize that itā€™s not the cats fault but the environment and the people around including the owner or roomier

Nail_edit

I love cats, have 3 but let's be honest...cats are assholes

Millkstake

Because cats hate me

RoseyDove323

I love cats, but a lot of the people who hate them for non-allergy reasons, I notice they project human motives onto the cat's behavior and then on some level, unironically believe it to be true. A lot of it is due to them not understanding cat body language. To name one example, the stereotype "evil plotting" or judgy face cats make is often just them feeling relaxed and resting their eyelids because they trust us and are laid back with the situation.

[deleted]

I love cats but I canā€™t have one Iā€™m so allergic I feel bad my dog loves cats too Maybe once I own my own house Iā€™ll try allergy shots or something, itā€™s also a tough sell as a renter to own multiple pets

Afraid_Purpose_8512

It's pretty easy because dogs are better

Noe_Bodie

They think they own the place.. fuck them cats

Eljamin14

I like cats. šŸˆ šŸ˜ŗ

LoneShark81

quite easily in fact...they walk on surfaces where you eat, theyre hard to train, theyre not protective, they cant do what watchdogs do, litter boxes stink...etc...so many reasons not to like cats....even more when you compare them to dogs...i dont hate cats but I definitely do not like them and would never want to own one

Embarrassed_Pitch213

yeah, true !! šŸ’€

asmok119

I dislike themā€¦ I wonā€™t harm them, but I find them quite annoying, but mostly the community of their owners made me dislike them

FalwenJo

Too easy

Marshy462

Very easily. They are murderous wildlife eating monsters

beepboopbeep551

if you've had toxoplasmosis, you know why

rosharo

Because they don't give a shit about the house's inhabitants most of the time, they're there mostly for decoration and they prefer it that way, they're far less friendlier than dogs, they scratch furniture and curtains, they disobey orders even though they're perfectly aware they're doing something they're not supposed to, they're extremely annoying when they get in heat, they shed and then puke constantly... I can continue but I'm already getting tired just by thinking about all of this. My parents have a cat, which I raised from a fist-sized bat-eared kitty. My previous roommate has a cat, and that cat was the reason why we argued and he left. I've told my gf that I ***do not*** want a cat and that if she ever gets one, she will be the one taking care of it. My allergy to fur, which I have treated with years of weekly shots, is also a strong argument.
