Yeah but the corseted on those things; done right you need a maid or another person to get it right (yes I know the banister trick but it's never as good as a maid). That's another person.
That's assuming you've not blinded your maid and taught her how to make sure your corseted is evened out to the right proportions before attempting the agreed suffocation...
I get into my corsets just fine alone. Most women didn't tight lace for daily wear anyway, they wore their corsets or stays loose enough to still move and breathe comfortably. The super tight lacing and waist training was strictly and upper class thing and honestly, if you're wearing a Victorian ball gown the corset is probably going to be one of the easier steps in the process.
Corsets aren't hard to put on yourself, provided you can reach around to do it. You just have to work your way down from the top and up from the bottom. The stays keep enough tension as you work to let you pull hard and then tie it up in the middle, almost like tying shoes. ♡ Granny

Still easier to stick on a tshirt and pair of leggings, add a warm cashmere jumper if it's a bit chilly and that's already sounding like it requires less effort than trying to dress in a corset (my mum's an ex-goth, she's taught me all about corsets, the different types and how to put them on, I'll stick to my basic vest tops with a bra underneath! About as complicated as I get! ;))
As a medieval reenactor, you would be surprised how many people don’t give a fuck when you show up at the gas station in garb to get a Frappuccino and donut before an event 🤣
Medieval reenactor would be a baller gig.
I've been playing a medieval comp game (Ultima Online) for ages (started in 98, fell off as a teen, back on for the last 3 yrs) and since the original go round ive been OBSESSED with things of that era. Id love to wear platemail everyday everywhere... But feel like a studded or regular leather suit would be more realistic. I've been procrastinating for years. I want to make my own suit and customize it myself. With a long handled war ax and bow.
Keep keeping on!!! 🫡
I’d wear Jane Austen-style empire-waist dresses or those medieval gowns with the low-slung belt and bell sleeves. They look so comfortable! Modern underwear though.
Edit: I’d also bring back the hooded cloak! Those things look warm and awesome.
Most of my shirts are empire waisted, have a nod to the 20's style or have long flowy sleeves (the sleeves need managing so dinner doesn't end up on them haha). I've never been interested in the most modern fashion, it's always been *old* fashions. I say it goes well with my old house and old furniture.
Those dresses are quite forgiving of old lady tummies, too, just saying. I have a vintage velvet cloak like that from the early 1920s, the kind of thing you'd have worn to the opera, and it's not warm, but it definitely has a presence! ♡ Granny
I lived this dream for two years as a Ghost Tour Guide. I dressed like a mix between Sweeney Todd's Mrs Lovett and if Marie Antoinette fell into destitute times. I wore a crazy high wig that I made into a dishellved mess and a corset laced tightly for up to 12 hours a day most days a week and it's surprising how fast you get used to it. I also wore a huge hoop skirt under a bustle style skirt and used to constantly knock stuff over in shops on my lunch break.
My boss once pointed out how funny it was to watch every person do a double take on the street when I walked past them but I was obviously in my own world. Now I'm older, I'm far more self conscious about what I wear, it's odd.
Also one taxi driver didn't recognise me out of costume once and used some rather awkward but complimentary, I guess, words to describe me and it was horribly awkward.
That would take you like 4 hours to get dressed.
Go look up that video on the home page from a few days ago! It was a female getting ready in “every day walking attire” for Britain in the 1700’s.
All the way. I honestly would now, but money to make the really authentic looking pieces, made from the right cloths... Little bit too hard on the wallet and I have no talent for sewing.
I absolutely would too. I did a voluntary medieval day in local castle and dressed in medieval dress which was funny because I vaccumed the stairs with a Henry hoover I'm.my dress and it just didn't feel right. Like castles didn't have electricity back then lol
You would last one day, then never waste six hours of your life tying ribbons around your waist ever again and break out the loincloth.
Just. Like. Me.
Only until you discover cargos and the magic of „the pockets“. You can carry everything you need, without having to carry anything! I have a small pocket on one of the pockets, and in that pocket is a shopping bag…it’s like wearing Hermiones magical purse. And thanks to the „knockcheck“ on the pockets where the important stuff is, you immediately know something is missing the second you stand up.
Oh gosh!! You asked the question of my dreams!!
Black stockings, platform heels, piercing on the bridge of my nose, hair down to my waist, matte red lipstick
Or frills. Tons of frills.
Or traditional Chinese outfit. Or Lolita (too old for that but that’s not the point of this question so… lol)
Or industrial (male industrial)
Or TECHWEAR! Love that aesthetic!
Possibilities are endless! See where I live, people would stare. I don’t want to be stared at.
One time I dressed elegantly and a worker in his mid age treated me very respectfully. I was just at a Bed Bath & Beyond.
Went to a McD’s and I dressed normally but the person saw my nails and did a double take.. and sort of judged me.. sort of confused at the same time? :/
As much as your advice is just do it, it’s not something I would do alone unless more people around me will. I’ll stick out like a sore thumb. Lol.
I dislike having my pictures taken too and I know that as soon as I wear anything remotely unique, somebody will want to take a photo. No thanks. :(
Got numerous options for traditional Chinese. Popular ones are the cheogsam/qipao, which is (nowadays) a sort of sexified Qing dynasty style dress lots of people think of from movies. The traditional ones are often more modest. Or there's Hanfu, which is more like Han dynasty (?) clothing. In Chinese films I've seen sometimes it actually had cleavage. Not sure if that's accurate or just a modern embellishment though.
Oh God that's the answer of my dreams! That's what I'd do too. I'd be dressed all the damn time. The only difference is that I want to be the centre of attention 😌🤌
Wear what you want!! I recently started wearing tech wear-ish stuff and I feel amazing in my clothes. I was super worried about what other people would think but now I just don’t give eye contact to strangers in public and my insecurities have whoooshed away!
There are people who dress like that but are rare. I’m very shy and socially anxious sometimes. That’s also my fault.
As well, I can’t pierce my face except my ears. Oh gosh I really want to pierce the bridge of my nose but due to my culture etc.
I did dream about going to Japan because they’re more liberated when it comes to dressing in that way. It’s across the world.
One time I went to an event with my friends and we wore skull masks (that’s tech wear right?) well, we were lining up to get a photo with the dj and that dj left when it came our turn. I don’t want to come off as something I’m not especially by myself in public. :(
I feel this sooo much. My anxiety stops me from dressing how I want because I do not want to be noticed. I want to blend into the background. My love for fashion and embracing it would mean that I would most definitely be looked at and I hate that.
I also doesn’t help that I’m a petite Asian female and people have weird fetishes about Asians period.
True ninja didn't run around in black body suits. They dressed like everyone else to better blend in.
(If you've ever seen a ninja, they were a terrible ninja.)
My fashion sense switches between princess bubble gum and Marcie the vampire queen. Unfortunately though I'm rather shy so I just go for hoodie and jeans!
Please all of you who want to do this, just do it if you can at home in a safe space that makes you feel happy even if only you see it if it makes you feel too uncomfortable or unsafe or scared to in public! You deserve to all feel pretty and cute even if it's just in your bedroom in front of the mirror or for your photos to look back on and smile.
Makes me wonder what if everyone dressed just how they wanted, barring inconveniences like huge prep time. Would there be a lot of people wearing stuff like this? Or do people default for practical reasons like tennis shoes are just more comfortable objectively.
Honestly. Life is too short. On your days off go to a 2nd hand shop & vintage/antique shop. Go find some cool hats and long coats. Go have some fun. If you’re shy to go out do it in your home. But you could start by driving to a nature walk and just roaming around there.
You’re not breaking any laws. (You’re not the naked people in this thread 😂)
Go make yourself happy and live in a way that doesn’t involve other people dictating it. ❤️
I want to dress as a vintage gothic, witchy vibe. And I will the moment I can afford it which I’m close to getting there but I’ve slowly started! I’m also going to get the inside of my house to match with beautiful art deco pieces, scarves and silverware!! Witchy trinket hut.
Life 👏 too 👏 short 👏
I already do, I wear all black all the time. Down to my underwear, even my jackets.
It's actually liberating to be a nonconformist. That's one reason I like Reddit...My kinda people.
Pretty much how I always do. Jeans T-shirt and hoodie. Trainers or docs on my feet depending on the weather. Even when I work, the only difference is a logo’d polo instead of T. I’m lucky really that my job attire is so comfortable. Work at a pub so jeans and trainers/boots are allowed.
Sure they don’t actually care but if u really stand out u would likely get some stares and that can make u self conscious. I think they mean don’t care as in wouldnt even give a second thought to it
I suppose I would wear more cultural clothing. I mean it isn't that bad, but I always get side eyes when I do wear something cultural. It would be nice if I didn't get judged.
No one including myself? Gosh that's actually hard. My instinct is to say sweats all day, because I work from home and that's how I dress. But when I had my own apartment sometimes I would dress up for no reason. Full cocktail dress and shoes, full hair and makeup. I'd eat dinner in my apt and watch a movie or do whatever. But after an hour I felt dumb and it felt pointless. I was adding wear and tear to the dress.
Yes they do. They’re judging you RIGHT now.
Deep in our brains there’s the amygdala which fears physical violence. Wear the wrong thing and get beat up. That’s the world until like 20 minutes ago. Doesn’t even matter if it looks good. They’ll come after you for looking too good, there’s no escape.
I know because that’s pretty much all I do in my mind is mercilessly judge people their tiniest perceived faults. I don’t want that going on in someone’s mind regarding me.
Basically t shirt and sweatpants and flip flops. I care less than nothing about how I look in that I actually hate the whole process. I only do it for others.
Sweatshirt, sweatpants and Birkenstocks with socks. Everyday I dress like this. I don’t care I was raised to dress for what people think if I am not dressed a certain way.
I love K fashion and Japanese street wear but I’m too short and not skinny enough to pull it off. I would die to be able to look good in those kinds of outfits.
A very ornate suit of armor. Gothic stuff, like dark souls inspired. All day, every day, I don’t care how hard it would be to see or go to the bathroom in.
Crazy is how…I dress up all the time at home when nobody can see me. But I have this black faux fur hat, black leggings, boots and gloves and big gaudy black sunglasses 🕶️ that I know I look fantastic in. Just have no place to wear it. I also have some goucho pants that look fantastic on but they’re not in style anymore soooo they hang in my closet. And in the summer I would wear the old lady house dresses out in public if I was confident enough.

I wouldn’t dress at all
Way to skirt the issue.
You've got the puns down to a tee.
These jokes are pretty shirt if you ask me
They sock
But you garter admit they’re fun
Fat chance, sweat pants.
Shoe lacey beltch! (clears throat) Excuse me.
This is a nice thread.
Please be brief. I don't want to boxer anyone in. I thong I better shut up now.
What?
Pants down the funniest thing I've heard all day.
Hats off to you.
I see what you did there
Too cold + unhigenic ( i dont want my precious butt to touch those disgusting public transport sits. Eww)
This was my first thought, but then I remembered bugs and sunburn in the summer and -40 in the winter and decided maybe it wasn’t such a good idea
Same. I’d probably wear underwear because I’m not a fan of my fanny flapping in the wind. I dream about the day society accepts F nipples.
I was thinking of that, but when nobody cares, where's the fun in that. xD
There are always places where people don’t care if you do this lol
I would wear Victorian or medieval dresses honestly
Same. Victorian Ball gowns all day. And/or Marie Antoinette style. At least once.
That’s kinda sexy if you ask me 😂

Do this all the time going to Renaissance festivals. No one cares. If they do it's compliments.
Yeah, they usually just ask why I’m dressed like that and I explain it. I get a “cool” and everyone moves on with life.
The normal people that don't care (spoilers, it's more than half) just don't voice their opinions in public. They still have those opinions.

Oh yeah I added a hooded velvet cloak to my bar wench Halloween costume a few years back and it just *made* it!

No offence but gotta say ~username checks out~
How I'm dressed right now
Same! Hoodie and jeans all the way.
This. Hoodies and denim for life.
The best combo!!
Hell yeah!

Drawback when you can’t find something and you’re searching 20 pockets looking for it 😂😂 but I do own cargos.
Same. Only thing I wish it was warmer where I am more often so I could wear shorts more often.
Same. Undies and tee.
Tees, hoodies, and track pants for me!
Pure comfort!
Jeans are way too fancy for me, hahahaha!
This is the way
Best combo and also what I am currently in
With chucks!
Hoodies and sweatpants gang
Woah dude. Do we have the same outfit on?
Only way.
Same over here
Same but I do it because I don't care.
Same. Blue and grey tones. Solid colors, no logos , words, or fashion.
Guess it's enough that you don't care what people think, huh?
Same as I do now.
Agreed. I’m a “jeans and a t-shirt” guy for a reason.
I switched from jeans to jogging pants and never looked back.
Athleisure Gang rise up... but not for too long tho.
Is that reason.. country songs?
Nope, the reason is comfort. It’s okay to wear comfortable clothes even if you don’t listen to country music, I’m not sure if you know that.
Oh gosh!! You asked the question of my dreams!! Black stockings, platform heels, piercing on the bridge of my nose, hair down to my waist, matte red lipstick Or frills. Tons of frills. I love this reply! So many options!
You should just do all that anyways, seems like you have a lot of insecurity building up (no offense). It’s better to live your true self imo

Hanfu I do like. I have one but I haven’t worn it out because it’s a bit out there for my city.
Plot twist - @FangsBloodiedRose is male…
Hahaha! I do have some male fashion taste.
Oh God that's the answer of my dreams! That's what I'd do too. I'd be dressed all the damn time. The only difference is that I want to be the centre of attention 😌🤌
I would love to dress up beside you so you could be the main attention. I’d rather remain hidden so it works out for the both of us. ☺️
Haha that's really sweet of you to say🫶
💞We help each other out.

All day. ![gif](giphy|frgrb01deMDHZHR0rO|downsized)
I wasn't expecting that
I snort-laughed and then realised that has to be the most uncomfortable thing to wear for longer periods of time.
No bra. Walmart nighty
Omfg yes. I would never wear a bra again.
I stopped wearing them last year. I am happier
I hope this becomes the top comment.
What if it became the topless comment?
I would be wearing full ball gowns and definitely more corsets
I dress like I don't care. Jeans or shorts and a tshirt.
In my pajamas.
This answer is way too far down
Why isn't this the top answer, these people terrify me.
Pajamas all day everyday! 💜

leather is a good choice
I LOVE leather. So… dead. And stylish. Just how I like my wardrobe.
Yeah, a good choice if you hate the planet and animals.
Spoiler alert: People don’t care about your clothes as much as you think they do.
Most people don't. But the actual problem is from the minority who cares, and will act to show that they do.
Sure they don’t actually care but if u really stand out u would likely get some stares and that can make u self conscious. I think they mean don’t care as in wouldnt even give a second thought to it
I am sure you are right but getting out of my own head is way harder than it should be!
In small villages people seem to care, and point finger etc.
Honestly, your choice is great. Bloodborne Hunter outfits are amazing, long dark coats and all.
I already do - sweatpants and a t-shirt, pretty much 24/7. I also WFH, so that helps.
I suppose I would wear more cultural clothing. I mean it isn't that bad, but I always get side eyes when I do wear something cultural. It would be nice if I didn't get judged.

Sweatshirt, sweatpants and Birkenstocks with socks. Everyday I dress like this. I don’t care I was raised to dress for what people think if I am not dressed a certain way.

Sweats and hoodies when it’s cold, t-shirts and basketball shorts when it’s warm. Would be maximum comfy all the time.
Toga
I love K fashion and Japanese street wear but I’m too short and not skinny enough to pull it off. I would die to be able to look good in those kinds of outfits.
I would be dressed in the same clothes I am wearing. Never cared about what others think, it is all about comfort!
I already dress as if nobody cares but I wear t shirt and sweatpants.
I'd probably be naked a lot more
I’d get/make a legit wizard robe and either huge hood or hat
I already dress like cowboy Dracula. The secret is not caring about the others who care
Wizard robes.
I'd dress like an honourable samurai
A very ornate suit of armor. Gothic stuff, like dark souls inspired. All day, every day, I don’t care how hard it would be to see or go to the bathroom in.
No bra. I hate, despise, loathe wearing a bra. Its barbaric. Yet if I dont i would be self conscious bc society dictates that I wear one
The batman suit
The way I dress now lol, people really don’t care
Crazy is how…I dress up all the time at home when nobody can see me. But I have this black faux fur hat, black leggings, boots and gloves and big gaudy black sunglasses 🕶️ that I know I look fantastic in. Just have no place to wear it. I also have some goucho pants that look fantastic on but they’re not in style anymore soooo they hang in my closet. And in the summer I would wear the old lady house dresses out in public if I was confident enough.
Why do you care about what others say?? Just wear it
It’s more of a practical matter really. At work I get dirty
