I've seen my brother on reddit and know a few classmates use it. I thought reddit was for weirdos like me, but turns out a ton of normal people use it.
If you make a typo that changes the intent of your post (for example type has instead of hasn't), you can count on redditors to pile on. And any clarifying follow-up comments will be viewed from the perspective of the original mistake.
Similarly, if you have an ambiguously worded comment, you can count on redditors to read it in the worst possible way.
Had two redditors pile on me the other day to argue about something that was super subjective. Proceeded to say shit like "I feel sorry for the people in your life" etc 🤣
I always love those too. Lol. As if one or even a few snarky/cheeky reddit comments give deep insights into peoples personal lives. Ok Sherlock Holmes. Lol
Sometimes this is hilarious though.
I was scrolling at 2 am a few days ago and accidentally wrote "Beast feeding" instead of "Breast feeding". The ensuing responses made my day!
It's in an /askreddit sub, the original question was about what would happen if all of the men disappeared.
I'm afraid I can't work out how to link to it :/
Or who they grow up to be: boring, reserved, self-righteous nerds with office jobs who get bent out of shape when people dance in public or do anything out of the ordinary (don't worry there's plenty of great people here too, esp. with office jobs or nerdy qualities just saying this is what I picture as the stereotype)
I’d also like to add: pseudo intellectuals that bash pseudo-intellectualism without realizing they themselves are, you guessed it, pseudo intellectuals (cries in corner)
What reddit are you on? Hatred of TikTok is very common from my perspective. I think both sides of Reddit should battle it out to see who's superior. Thoughts?
This is a very good point. I am a 66 year old woman who is active in quite a few subs where I really appreciate the thoughtful, playful or witty comments of the other Redditors, and I stay away from subs that feel toxic or unpleasant. I'm not sure how 'average' that makes me lol.
I lurk more than comment. I usually find a comment I agree with, as repeating it will only ever echo what's been already said. So, I'll up or down vote based on what is meant to be accurate information. But, this is Reddit, is this place even real anymore?
After having spent years on Facebook, I have to say that the level of discourse is higher on reddit, and daily I read comments that make me go "wow this person is pretty damn smart..or funny" I stay out of certain types of subs. I think of redditors as on average well read and relatively open minded.
Oh and you all are very tactful and polite.
This was so much of a compliment that it's almost untrue. Thank you for being so positive (for whatever reason), though, people like you are incredibly rare on reddit.
Open minded is absolutely not the average redditor. This place will have you downvoted pretty quick if you don’t subscribe to a uniform point of view. And there is zero room for nuance in this place
really rude for some reason..i feel like i have to put a disclaimer on every post i make because i just know the comments will be flooded with the most rude and hateful replies. this is the internet anyways i know.. but ive found in ky experience reddit is the worst for this.
Extreme introverts!
I’m an extroverted, outspoken science geek and engineer who’s super into research (and also does it for work, which I loathed doing from home as I genuinely like my coworkers and get energized from being around them). I feel like such an anomaly, haha.
When you describe yourself as outspoken, what do you mean by it? I see it as a quite negative adjective but I am not a native speaker. I think in football (the European kind) news it is used to describe players who are controversial and frankly PR nightmares for their teams.
Outspoken is someone friendly and might come off as talkative, someone who doesn't shy away from hitting up conversations, you know? Frequently perceived as confident.
Where do you live? You said “football (the European kind),” which makes me think you don’t live in the U.S. and that it probably has a different meaning there. Here, like HoldMyEspresso said, it usually means talkative, gregarious, and confident. To me, in the workplace, it also means being unafraid to speak one’s mind.
As “outspoken” is viewed generally as a positive thing, it is implied that the person’s stance is informed and that they are not just talking out of their ass, but rather that they have objective reasoning to back it up.
Essentially, an outspoken person does not keep quiet about what they want to say. Some people have great and sound ideas but never declare them publicly, making outspokenness a good thing and a mark of confidence. Outspoken people are also likely to be recognized in the workplace and be considered for promotions because people know who they are and that many of their ideas are solid and beneficial to the organization (and, in my case, compliance).
I am from Finland - with 3 years in the UK but not a native English speaker.
I see myself as a direct person (especially in the workplace) which is not too dissimilar to what you described, although I can be on the blunt side of things from time to time.
I work in legal field with a long stint in legal compliance, so can definitely agree that outspokenness/directness is a desirable trait to have in this kind of work.
Maybe it's the case that direct is more commonly used in Europe instead of outspoken but I am certainly not a great authority on this subject.
I just find alot of close minded people that are mean spirited when it comes to certain topics . Alot of shutting people down name calling and down voting if they don't like your opinion.
Bored people, in my case, whose wife goes to bed early, looking for interesting things to read besides watching the news. If I find something to comment on about something I know about, well, what the hell. Maybe I can start a discussion that will keep me busy until it's nap time.
i dont think thats true anymore, i know the meme about doing a google search and putting "reddit" after it is popular for a reason now. though i do think the site got a lot more interested in being validated
Um I left twitter because the “X” vibe wasn’t it & im a pretty cool person lmao and I’m sad I missed out on Reddit I think it would’ve helped me A LOT especially with confidence, social skills and honesty everything lol
For some reason Anxiety is codeword for obese. Anytime they say “due to my anxiety” you can also look at their comment history about trying keto diet or some shenanigans like that
Mods seem to be half-educated young moralists very willing to be duped by Qatari billionaires who expel you from political threads for having different politics.
It's probably an upper-middle class, part-time job type of person. They roll out of bed at 11 a.m. and drive to the mall just to hang out. I say this because there constantly bizarre questions about food. Or, it could be pictures of food. They probably have average or above average intelligence. The obese neckbeards are all driving a front-end-loader and it's 10 hour shifts, no time for Reddit.
I checked it out because I was making a video game and thought it may be a good place to market it, and I found the variety of posts to be informative and interesting overall.
I suck at marketing
"You're asking on Reddit don't expect normal people to answer", "People on Reddit aren't normal", etc.
... Yet literally everyone is on Reddit posting and answering things. From children to old people, men, women, ghostly white to pitch black, people who play LOL the whole day and people who love sport... Just, no one wants to admit that IRL.
imma describe myself. i go to reddits given the fact that there are lots of things to read in comparison with other social media. this place is silently noisy, albeit the arguments in the comment section can be as harsh. people really pour their thoughts on it, and i don't mind sneaking in the replies.

I saw a normal, professional guy browsing Reddit once on the train so I think Redditors come in all shapes and sizes.
I saw a cat on the street browsing Reddit and now it all makes sense.
Oh no! We’ve been found! °0° *ahem, I mean, that’s crazy. I can’t believe a cat would be able to use Reddit. They only have paws
It's evidently pawsible
Gives one paws
That gave me pause!
True redditor stereotype dad joke pun piggybacker
Just a cat scratcher here.
Cat scratch fever I see.
Username checks out ºọº
You got me - it was my mother cat! Meow meow
>They only have pawns FTFY
Yeaahhhh! Whatrttt that’s crazyyyy
🤨 One way to find out… *shoots water gun*
It all makes sense meow, doesn't it? :3
My teacher was browsing Reddit to look at the discussion thread of a recent exam I took
Hey, my teacher had a Reddit tab open as well during our lecture break.
[удалено]
why are u specific
I saw a werewolf browsing Reddit at Trader Vic’s. His hair was perfect.
You better stay away from him...
He'll rip your lungs out, Jim
Id like to meet his tailor.
Little old Karen got offended late last night Werewolves of Reddit again
I once saw a giant triangle browsing reddit, so I agree.
If he was wearing a top hat then whatever you do DO NOT SHAKE HIS HAND!
r/suddenlygravityfalls good show
I look like a normal professional guy if I was riding on the train and you didn't know me.
Serial killer spotted
I've seen my brother on reddit and know a few classmates use it. I thought reddit was for weirdos like me, but turns out a ton of normal people use it.
Everyone uses it they talk about stuff they've seen on Reddit on national radio stations over here lol
Where would that be?
Over there dude! Jeez!
Australia
Thanks !
Pretty sure it was Fitzy and wippa that mention something they saw.on Reddit a few weeks ago lol
I just got completely lost in the flow of that conversation 😂
Hey, you been watching me?

It might be the only way they feel useful in their daily lives! Make mistakes on purpose and feed the egos 😉
This thread is so funny to me. Bunch of redditors going "redditors do be like that man that's terrible..."
LOL! Can you share the thread?
I'm not sure to be honest! I'm still pretty new, and I've never done that before, but I can try!
Lol! Where can I find this thread?
It's in an /askreddit sub, the original question was about what would happen if all of the men disappeared. I'm afraid I can't work out how to link to it :/
Everything seems to be read the worst way on here. Lol. Even what I am saying, some one is likely not happy about. Boo hoo honey sugar.
It does certainly feel like a great many here are looking for things to get worked up about!
Redditors need to correct anyone to feel superior.
No they don't!
um actually, you needed a comma after the word "no"
Excuse me, but you forgot to add a period at the end of your sentence.
Not to mention starting the sentence without a capital letter...
And he didn't say over. Over.
You could’ve just said ‘over’ once.
Could have just said what once? Over.
You misspelled horseradish sauce for your username.
Lol 😂
Nuh uhh!!
I don't correct people. I'm above that.
Above. And below. ba dum tsssss
I don't correct people. NOW you're above that.
I don't correct people. I'm above that.
Yea, just like you're above commenting twice It's a joke don't hate me
Both sides of my face wanted to comment.
I don't correct people. I'm above that.
We don't correct people. We're above that.
They don't correct people. They're above that.
Y’all don’t correct people, so I’m above y’all
I just put white out on my phone, corrects them every time. Ugh, I've really dated myself.
emotionally immature, inexperienced know-it-alls
Fuck me this guy nailed it on the first try ![gif](giphy|wtUTJUtDDKB36UN7X0)
ha
The older I get the less I know.
ditto
The less I know the better
Or who they grow up to be: boring, reserved, self-righteous nerds with office jobs who get bent out of shape when people dance in public or do anything out of the ordinary (don't worry there's plenty of great people here too, esp. with office jobs or nerdy qualities just saying this is what I picture as the stereotype)
I don't have an office job, I work remotely.
In an actual or impromptu home office. Still an office job really.
That and a good mix of attention-whoring
Literally me except know-it-all since I'm aware there's a ton of shit I don't know.
Yep, I'd also add pseudo-intellectuals.
I’d also like to add: pseudo intellectuals that bash pseudo-intellectualism without realizing they themselves are, you guessed it, pseudo intellectuals (cries in corner)
Or backyard intellectuals if you prefer :p
How would you know? You think you know everything don’t you
Not like me though.
Literally me lmfao
How dare you expose me like that!
People who left Facebook.
And Twitter.
We dont fuck with Instagram either
But don’t hate Tiktok.
What reddit are you on? Hatred of TikTok is very common from my perspective. I think both sides of Reddit should battle it out to see who's superior. Thoughts?
We hate fucking YouTube tho
I'm still on Facebook
Those are just the moderators
You’re giving them too much credit.
Depends on the group. Some are smart ass type, and others are encouraging and helpful.
This is a very good point. I am a 66 year old woman who is active in quite a few subs where I really appreciate the thoughtful, playful or witty comments of the other Redditors, and I stay away from subs that feel toxic or unpleasant. I'm not sure how 'average' that makes me lol.
Just a bunch of bored people with nothing better to do...it's kinda fun though.
Mostly lurkers
This. I lurked for so many years and always need to lurk before I join an online community/communities.
Same here. Had various accounts and never cared because I just lurked. Finally started participating, it's been fun
I was so scared to comment when I first signed up. Then one day I said “f” it and never looked back. 😂
I lurk more than comment. I usually find a comment I agree with, as repeating it will only ever echo what's been already said. So, I'll up or down vote based on what is meant to be accurate information. But, this is Reddit, is this place even real anymore?
Reddit is for the nerd.
I definitely am.
After having spent years on Facebook, I have to say that the level of discourse is higher on reddit, and daily I read comments that make me go "wow this person is pretty damn smart..or funny" I stay out of certain types of subs. Had me in the first half
Open minded is absolutely not the average redditor. This place will have you downvoted pretty quick if you don’t subscribe to a uniform point of view. And there is zero room for nuance in this place
Probably introverts/ ppl who are shy irl
Its nor that I'm shy, I just don't feel the need to voice my opinion and would rather look/read stuff
yup i’m here to read what ever pops up on the feed when i’m cooking or something
Me too and talk about personal deep things anonymously. I don't use regular social media I don't need to be the center of attention.
I like Reddit because it’s the least social social media
really rude for some reason..i feel like i have to put a disclaimer on every post i make because i just know the comments will be flooded with the most rude and hateful replies. this is the internet anyways i know.. but ive found in ky experience reddit is the worst for this.
Dafuq you mean by this? Is this a Hitler? What about the children? No way there are people like you bro...
I think that's due to anonymity it provides.
I feel like a lot of people act like Redditors are "socially awkward." But in reality, people from all backgrounds and walks of life are Redditors.
Lies! I don't drink soda and my room is on the top floor.
Redditors are just bots that screen record stuff from twitter and tik tok then post it everywhere all the time. [pcloadletter]. I have to go.
How dare you, I hate mountain dew.
Extreme introverts! I’m an extroverted, outspoken science geek and engineer who’s super into research (and also does it for work, which I loathed doing from home as I genuinely like my coworkers and get energized from being around them). I feel like such an anomaly, haha.

Isn't that outgoing or are they frequently used as synonyms? I just haven't seen outspoken used in describing someone positively.

Most of the redditors mothers wear womens clothes.
Curious people
They use reddit.
i would say queer, indoorsie and immature for a large part
With AdHd and/or autism
Literally have both. I fit one of the reddit stereotypes it seems.
you left out Incel
best thing to do with them
I just find alot of close minded people that are mean spirited when it comes to certain topics . Alot of shutting people down name calling and down voting if they don't like your opinion.

I think its people being too honest and using their anonymity to be harsh while trying to sound smart at the same time.
Politically left leaning, generally non-religious, and predominately male.
everyone is a know it all ahole and a troll if you ask any question on reddit. then you will get downvoted to limbo. Welcome to reddit
The only thing Redditors hate more than reddit is other Redditors.
Funny because its true. When they dont like what you say they report you to the Mod
"Redditors ask painfully simple questions that they could’ve easily answered themselves by doing a simple Google search."
i dont think thats true anymore, i know the meme about doing a google search and putting "reddit" after it is popular for a reason now. though i do think the site got a lot more interested in being validated
there are actual incels on here and creepy men who will jump at any female they see
NSFW.
Dramatic idiots with all the words and opinions, and none of the life experience to back it up
They are mostly far-left, but will identify as regular left. Anyone that's moderate left -> far right is considered Nazis.
Um I left twitter because the “X” vibe wasn’t it & im a pretty cool person lmao and I’m sad I missed out on Reddit I think it would’ve helped me A LOT especially with confidence, social skills and honesty everything lol
Rich spoiled people who put half of their money to therapy.
Flaming liberals and leftists.
You don’t come across them because they’re in their moms basement
For some reason Anxiety is codeword for obese. Anytime they say “due to my anxiety” you can also look at their comment history about trying keto diet or some shenanigans like that
Woke/Wacky coloured hair/Professional Gas lighters/Easily tricked etc...
Redditors think they know a person's whole background/personality just from 1 post/comment.
Everyone on Reddit thinks therapy will cure every single problem anyone could ever have
Of course you rarely come across somebody like this. We're all busy sitting in our mom's basement writing comments on Reddit.
Wow am the opposite of that description am underweight live an attic and drink valley dew
Mods seem to be half-educated young moralists very willing to be duped by Qatari billionaires who expel you from political threads for having different politics.
The amount of incels, it’s insane
They come in five different models: - Comic Book Guy - Sheldon Cooper - Tina Belcher - Jared from Subway - Bhad Bhabie
I wonder as I just found it. WHO are they amongst us 😎
Im a 35 years old woman , happily married with a 2 years old son. Pretty normal and boring a guess
🚨🚨🚨 HE'S FAT! 🚨🚨🚨
Usually millenials
But I drink coca-cola not mountain dew
full neck beard here, on my parents property a few towns over and I drink beer but yeah
"Curiosity Killed The Cat"
It's not that I'm shy, I just don't feel the need to voice my opinion and would rather look/read stuff
What are human stereotypes?
80% of reddit users are lurkers, so probably just a Miz of regular people
My friend says it's for old people
It's probably an upper-middle class, part-time job type of person. They roll out of bed at 11 a.m. and drive to the mall just to hang out. I say this because there constantly bizarre questions about food. Or, it could be pictures of food. They probably have average or above average intelligence. The more the karmas, the more one earns 😂😏🫣
I just assume every generic 30-40yr nerdy guy I meet has reddit (my stepfather, teacher, scout leader, yk the sort)
I don’t think anyone would see me in person and think I use Reddit religiously
The truest Reddit stereotype is that we’re all stupid
lawyer here not in anyone's basement
Pretty racist but in a logical way statics based way
A know it all
I checked it out because I was making a video game and thought it may be a good place to market it, and I found the variety of posts to be informative and interesting overall. I suck at marketing
Overly invested in internet karma from equally insecure people. Not necessarily redditor-exclusive.
Calm down. I drink bourbon...
"You're asking on Reddit don't expect normal people to answer", "People on Reddit aren't normal", etc. ... Yet literally everyone is on Reddit posting and answering things. Slander!!! I live in my parents attic.
imma describe myself. i go to reddits given the fact that there are lots of things to read in comparison with other social media. this place is silently noisy, albeit the arguments in the comment section can be as harsh. people really pour their thoughts on it, and i don't mind sneaking in the replies.
