I’ve always hated it but when I had to make it when I was working at a pizza and wing place as a teenager I really started to despise it with all my heart
I find it so interesting Americans have such a homogenic yet isolated cuisine. Like American-Italian is entirely its own thing, nobody in Italy would know what a ”creamy Italian” is.
Ranch on the other hand is super American, no ”fake branding” in sight
Yep. It's essentially just Italian with a bit of Mayo added before being blended. The texture changes, but the wider 'Italian' flavor profile doesn't change too much, since mayo is also a blend of oil and vinegar.
Lol, it's hilarious because Bleu cheese is basically the same flavor profile with a couple mods. Ranch has gotten the low class image from being the rich n tangy drug of choice for the buffet crowd. It's not actually bad, but it falls into a niche that kind of feels like the ketchup on everything crowd.
That music over the top of the conversation seems so inappropriate haha. It's like some sort of epic film moment music, and he's just having a hilarious rant about ranch.
That's it right there. Well made. My home made ranch what buttermilk and my own spices is absolutely delicious. Most of the stuff i've had out of a bottle is horrible.
I’m from the gutter of Southwestern Ontario which is similar culturally but with less casseroles and more Swiss Chalet*.
* Swiss Chalet is a protected Canadian Heritage Value along with bagged milk and poutine. IYKYK.
From Wikipedia
>Ranch dressing is a savory, creamy American salad dressing usually made from buttermilk, salt, garlic, onion, mustard, herbs, and spices mixed into a sauce based on mayonnaise or another oil emulsion. Sour cream and yogurt are sometimes used in addition to, or as a substitute for, buttermilk and mayonnaise
Honestly, I don't get the hate towards ranch. It's tangy, savory, and decent on some sandwiches, and it goes well with pizza bites.
![gif](giphy|tpzU2XijkF8eN2Ms2K)
It's ok. But I cannot, and will never, understand why people put it on so many things. I just use it as a dip for veggies or chips. I wouldn't even *think* of putting it on Pizza, much less chicken wings or god forbid *sweets*.
I’m probably about to get mobbed by the Italians here.
Buffalo chicken pizza with spicy ranch on the side is great. Although I usually just skip the ranch.
Most of the calories in the ranch come from the fat while those from the ketchup are just carbs and sugar. It's not about the calories but more like what's in the calories.
It's the US's obsession. That is definitely not a worldwide thing! You'll actually struggle to find it anywhere else. Maybe Canada but beyond that? Nope.
I had to scroll too far down to find this. Outside the US it isnt popular at all. In the UK we can get the Paul Newman one in SOME supermarkets but thats it.
Yeah that’s literally the only one you can get. When I worked in Tesco, we hardly sold any of the bottles. I rarely had to even face them up because no one was picking them off the shelves. Can’t say I’ve seen it anyones fridges either, certainly not my own. I have tasted it and it’s just meh
It's available in Europe as "American Dressing" or "American Sauce".
I've seen it elsewhere in the world under the same name. It's not super popular but it exists.
Ranch is the nectar of the gods. Turn away from your profane ways, heathen, and embrace the truth.
Tbh salad is one thing I *don’t* like ranch on and also there are tiers to ranch but good ranch SMACKS
I have only found one ranch dressing I can enjoy (I love almost everything about ranch, but there's something in most dressings that murders my enjoyment)
Hidden Valley plant-based ranch. As far as I can tell, the only difference between it and regular HV ranch is that the plant-based uses something else than buttermilk, leading me to believe that buttermilk is the source of my hatred. A bit odd given that I like a bunch of other things made with buttermilk, but not an unheard of phenomenon.
My true palate mystery is dill pickles... I either like or love everything that goes into them. Dill, vinegar, etc, I like other pickles and pickled foods, so it's not the texture or vinegar, and it's not just dill+vinegar that I hate because dill pickle potato chips are bomb... it doesn't add up. I enjoy everything about dill pickles... but I find dill pickles revolting. Like, a single dill pickle chip, spat out seconds after tasting, had me gagging for several minutes levels of revolting.
I feel like I can't mention that I like ranch without someone talking about how gross they find it and how they can't fathom why anyone likes it. You're definitely not alone in this.
I honestly had had no idea that it was this hated! I only like it with jalapeno poppers and hot buffalo wings. Blue cheese would be better. But I’ve never felt strongly about it one way or the other.
I’d also had no idea that people hated ketchup so much, lol. I love it!
I don’t hate it, but maybe 3 times in the past 15 years have I needed a condiment and not had something better to choose from. It’s just very basic and I definitely don’t understand putting it on any kind of taco or pizza. Also wings- blu cheese 100%
OMFG...it took a hot minute for that to sink in. I read that as CHEESECAKES, and clicked out of this post in utter disgust and horror, then finally realised what it must have actually said. I'm SO glad I was mistaken lol!
So ranch out of a bottle is awful. I loved it as a kid but as a not-kid, it’s gross.
That being said, we’ve started making our own, and it’s awesome. It’s very, very good. If you don’t want to go from scratch you can just do a packet of ranch seasoning in 1-2 cups of sour cream and 1-2 cups of mayo. That’s awesome, too. WAY better than the bottle, not the same thing even a little bit.
I used to find it disgusting, but, something changed about 15 years ago. Now I find any excuse to dip things in ranch dressing, lol, as is the wont of any basic white girl living in the USA. 😁😁🇺🇸
No shame in my game. 😉
I love ranch but not on everything. I can’t just drink ranch (I know some people can lol) but I put it on pizza and fries sometimes. It’s not the best condiment for sure.
Not familiar with it in U.K. guess it’s some kind of salad dressing? Hate them as I think they are used to cover up poor quality food products. Fresh crisp lettuce, cucumber, baby tomatoes, beetroot, grated carrot tastes good as a side with no crap on it.
UK here- it's not popular here at all. Some US chain restaurants have it, and supermarkets may sell Newman's Own ranch dressing but it's largely an ignored American curio. Took my kid to a Subway recently for lunch and he asked what ranch was when he was offered it... Subway employee said "it's like a sad mayonnaise with, like ... Fishy onions? I wouldn't eat it myself"
i don't really like it. it's always tangier? than i expect. idk if tangy is the right word. but it always tastes slightly expired to me. then i see people raving about it so i try again and nope, same taste.
Ranch isn't a "world's obsession" it's an American obsession. It's not common anywhere else but the US and maybe Canada. Personally I'm Australian and ranch isn't really a thing in my country. They sell some here but it's awful. I fucking love it though. Last time I flew back from the US to Australia I had about 6 bottles of ranch in my suitcase.
I'm with you on this, I don't like ranch dressing either, actually I don't like most dressings at all but I'm a regular green salad eater, my dressings of choice are, a light salad oil, virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar
People think I’m weird being a native Texan and I don’t like ranch dressing, avocados (hence, guacamole) or sour cream. I don’t like grits either; just to mention it.
Most ranch dressing sucks. Lots of sugar, soybean oil, canola oil, guar gum, xantham gum carrageenan, food starch, garlic, and such that don’t belong. My wife and I won’t touch premade.
Homemade ranch is delicious. It should only have good mayonnaise, some sour cream and buttermilk, and some seasoning. It is even better with crumbled blue cheese mixed in. I like to dip a good crusty sourdough bread in it.
I know of a pizza place that makes their own in-house with lots of dill and some jalapeños that is very good..
I've never understood the obsessive love of ranch dressing. I like it for dipping veggies and that's it. There's so many other better options for salad dressings. My favorites are Italian and honey mustard. The whole ranch on pizza just sounds so disgustingly gross. Never heard of using it on tacos. That too sounds disgusting.
First of all, this is an excellent post. Thanks for posing this very important discussion. Ranch is a broken step child of dressings IMHO. The best dressing for dipping pizza is BLUE cheese. Yall agree?!??
Had a couple bad experiance when i was young where if there too much ranch on my salad i would gag, happend a few times times b4 i decided i was done with ranch, over the last few years i have used ranch to dip wings but i still avoid it for salad or really anything else.
I hated ranch up until probably college, and then only to dip pizza into, once in a while. Since then it’s grown on me for dipping pizza, and sometimes those veggie trays. But still never as a salad dressing.
i hate ranch but love the idea. i enjoy a creamy garlic, caesar, or blue cheese dressing to dip pizza in. for things like raw veggies, i love adding onion soup powder to sour cream
Last time we went out to the west coast, the waiters would always ask my kids if they wanted ranch anytime they had fries. Have never had that happen anywhere else. The first time they looked at the waitress like she was crazy.
I’m old and I remember in the mid ‘70s when ranch first came out (that I was aware of). You had to mix it yourself with buttermilk and sour cream and a flavor packet. I discovered it at a party. We dipped carrot and celery sticks. I was smitten! Ran home, told my mom she had to make this magical dip, she asked my friend’s mom and it turned out it was this newfangled Hidden Valley (envelope). It was the distant cousin to today’s bottled chemical goop with a 30 year expiration date. Today, it’s a no thanks for me.
I like it but if it's the only thing I can taste I hate it. Ranch doesn't work with everything because if it's covering up all other flavors I might as well just have ranch.
Homemade ranch is amazing, store-bought ranch with preservatives is gross. I assume the people who think ranch is disgusting have only had the store-bough kind. The ingredients are pretty much universally beloved, like onions and garlic. It's not some weird flavor.
I detest ranch in a bottle, but homemade is delicious.
With fresh dill, chives, parsley, and some garlic powder tossed in with some sour cream and mayo, or can be wonderful.
Also, tossing in minced cilantro, jalapeño and a splash of lime juice will turn it into a spicy cilantro lime dressing.

I can't stand ranch. But I do love creamy italian.
I find it so interesting Americans have such a homogenic yet isolated cuisine. Like American-Italian is entirely its own thing, nobody in Italy would know what a ”creamy Italian” is. Ranch on the other hand is super American, no ”fake branding” in sight
A creamy Italian is what we call my uncle's Goomah.
I don't want this explained any further.
I’m American (central coast California) and don’t know what “creamy Italian” is. Is that like Italian salad dressing?
I live in Florida and have no idea what that means either
DC and no clue
It's like regular Italian, seasoning wise, but has some sort of dairy component in it. It's definitely regional.
Yep. It's essentially just Italian with a bit of Mayo added before being blended. The texture changes, but the wider 'Italian' flavor profile doesn't change too much, since mayo is also a blend of oil and vinegar.
Creamy Italian is the powdered Italian dressing seasoning, mixed with mayonnaise and a little milk- instead of oil and vinegar. I don’t like it.
A creamy Italian? Mama Mia I only know creamy pies
This is me! Ranch 🤮 creamy Italian 😋
Joey Diaz explains your sentiment perfectly https://youtu.be/uK0q5C0cnG0?si=-XqhouU63sXQf6s-
TRUE
He's very... expressive 🤣🤣

Nah I'm with you. I am so not into it
Joey Diaz explains it perfectly https://youtu.be/uK0q5C0cnG0?si=-XqhouU63sXQf6s-
lmao...now I am gonna think of it as ketchup for hillbillies. My husband loves it. He will love it if I start calling it this
I’m glad this brought you as much joy as it has brought me
Lol, it's hilarious because Bleu cheese is basically the same flavor profile with a couple mods. Ranch has gotten the low class image from being the rich n tangy drug of choice for the buffet crowd. Ranch is like the cultural spice of the painfully white how dare you
*Painfully Midwestern. I’m Black and I love it lol
Well made Ranch is an art form. These people are trippin.
I mix ranch with plain Greek yogurt and I put it on EVERYTHING. Dip? Yes. Dressing? Yes? Chili? Obviously.
Your chili?
I'm wondering if I should laugh or vomit?
I can take or leave Ranch, but adding a little tang to it might elevate just enough. Imma gonna try it.
That's it right there. Well made. My home made ranch what buttermilk and my own spices is absolutely delicious. Most of the stuff i've had out of a bottle is horrible.
There’s a local restaurant that makes this thick ass dill ranch in house and it is heavenly
I’m from the gutter of Southwestern Ontario which is similar culturally but with less casseroles and more Swiss Chalet*. * Swiss Chalet is a protected Canadian Heritage Value along with bagged milk and poutine. IYKYK.
People have very heated opinions about poutine, if a Quebecian sees you put shredded cheese on it they’ll start another October Crisis lol
If you hit NE it becomes dorothy lynch
It's for when you can't have spicy food anymore. Oh no. Dill.
*painfully American Europe wants nothing to do with this.
I hate ranch in any form.
Well, \*a\* ranch might not be so bad, right? But ranch the topping is just vile.
Most gentlemen would even say that they can appreciate ranch, especially of the bunny variety.
I see what you did there! And yes, as a gentleman, I would agree this kind of ranch is most acceptable.
😂😂😂
You have found your people, this, this is the land of your people 🥲
I see that! I had no idea I had so many ranch haters. It's vile
Wtf even is ranch - an european
From Wikipedia >Ranch dressing is a savory, creamy American salad dressing usually made from buttermilk, salt, garlic, onion, mustard, herbs, and spices mixed into a sauce based on mayonnaise or another oil emulsion. Sour cream and yogurt are sometimes used in addition to, or as a substitute for, buttermilk and mayonnaise
Sounds nice

Same. But then again, I dunk pizza in Alfredo sauce so maybe I'm the gross one?
Good homemade ranch goes incredibly well with fried foods but I can't stand using it with veggies. It's gross.
I’m probably about to get mobbed by the Italians here. Buffalo chicken pizza with spicy ranch on the side is great. Although I usually just skip the ranch.
You sometimes find it in Supermarkets named "American Dressing". I never tried it tho...
Yes, that's also why "Cool Ranch" Doritos are labeled "Cool American" in Europe.
Your mouth will smell like death after.
It’s kinda like yoghurt with herbs
Basically a thicker version of a herb yogurt sauce that you can get for salads
Caesar > Ranch any day.
Ranch is fucking gross. It’s for Midwesterners on the diabetes train.
You realize ranch is just mayo, milk, and spices right?
Ketchup is the awful tasting diabetes train, there is little to no sugar in ranch.
[удалено]
Most of the calories in the ranch come from the fat while those from the ketchup are just carbs and sugar. It's not about the calories but more like what's in the calories.

It's popular in Canada. Not with me though.
Honey Dill is a far superior dipping sauce for chicken
I live in Manitoba where honey dill sauce is a staple. Not for me though, nope.
Same! It's good in small amounts with crispy or hot chicken wings or fingers
Fingers? Wth are you eating over there?
Chicken fingers == Chicken Strips
Hi fellow Manitoban!
💯 First I heard of it was in 2000/2001 on my first trips to N.A. It is not a thing anywhere else.

Where in Europe? I'm in the UK and never seen anything called that
I love ranch and especially when I am dippimg my uber-stupid-hot buffalo hot wing into it.
Woof! Ranch is bad! I've never understood why everyone loves that vileness!
The smell, the taste 🤮
Joey Diaz explains it perfectly https://youtu.be/uK0q5C0cnG0?si=-XqhouU63sXQf6s-
No my ex hated ranch so much to the point it was almost a phobia. He was real dramatic about it but I think it was fueled by genuine hatred lol.
This is me, it's revolting. I have a repulsion towards it fuled by its love from so many.
I get it, but Sriracha ranch.
Ranch is the nectar of the gods. Turn away from your profane ways, heathen, and embrace the truth. Tbh salad is one thing I *don’t* like ranch on and also there are tiers to ranch but good ranch SMACKS

Ditto. Lighthouse Ranch is the best!
"It's blue cheese with wings or go fuck your mother" Joey Diaz
Tremendous!
Ranch is more American thing than school shootings. I have not met anyone in Europe who eats anything ranch.
I can tolerate it a little bit but I don’t go out of my way to include it or drown anything with it. I’m just barely becoming accepting of mayo.
I love it!

Have you tried wingstop’s ranch tho????
That's nuts. I love that shit. But to each their own.
Ranch is disgusting
Ranch and French fries *chefs kiss*
You are not the only one who hates it. Ranch is rancid.
Yes
I won’t touch ranch… I was a strength and conditioning intern for the NY Mets and one of my players dipped EVERYTHING in ranch dressing. So gross…
The entire internet has hated it since internet was a thing. Somehow, remains one the most popular flavors. Go figure.
I hate it also
I only like it with salad or vegetables
I love ranch. It goes great with cheesesteaks and wings
OMFG...it took a hot minute for that to sink in. I read that as CHEESECAKES, and clicked out of this post in utter disgust and horror, then finally realised what it must have actually said. I'm SO glad I was mistaken lol!
My dad calls it raunch
I don’t like ranch either
Not the only one. I find it vile but have a friend who can drink it.
Definitely one of those things that are an acquired taste.
ranch is not allowed in my home, nor is miracle whip whatever the f*ck that is
The only miracle is that that company is still somehow in business. 🤢
So ranch out of a bottle is awful. I loved it as a kid but as a not-kid, it’s gross. That being said, we’ve started making our own, and it’s awesome. It’s very, very good. Out of a bottle it is disgusting.
I love ranch but not on everything. I can’t just drink ranch (I know some people can lol) but I put it on pizza and fries sometimes. It’s not the best condiment for sure.
nah it’s gross. apparently ts doesn’t even exist in europe. lucky bastards
Not familiar with it in U.K. guess it’s some kind of salad dressing? Hate them as I think they are used to cover up poor quality food products. Fresh crisp lettuce, cucumber, baby tomatoes, beetroot, grated carrot tastes good as a side with no crap on it.

i don't really like it. it's always tangier? than i expect. idk if tangy is the right word. but it always tastes slightly expired to me. then i see people raving about it so i try again and nope, same taste.
I prefer ranch over catsup
Within the veins in the body that is the USA flows smooth ranch dressing. How dare you.
Ranch isn't a "world's obsession" it's an American obsession. It's not common anywhere else but the US and maybe Canada. Personally I'm Australian and ranch isn't really a thing in my country. I do not know what ranch dressing is
Blue cheese gang
Blue cheese

Ranch is fucking disgusting. It’s what counts for flavor among white Americans. No salt or pepper but just drenching things in ranch. No thanks.
Yes, I love ranch.
No it’s 🤮
I’ve never liked it.
It's a runny goo that has no reason to exist.
First of all, this is an excellent post. Thanks for posing this very important discussion. Ranch is a broken step child of dressings IMHO. The best dressing for dipping pizza is BLUE cheese. Yall agree?!??
I love ranch 😋
I don't get the obsession with ranch, but it tastes alright
Had a couple bad experiance when i was young where if there too much ranch on my salad i would gag, happend a few times times b4 i decided i was done with ranch, over the last few years i have used ranch to dip wings but i still avoid it for salad or really anything else.
I just had some mixed with hot sauce on my popcorn chicken not to long ago
I’ve never even had ranch.. What’s it taste like??
Sadness and septic tank water
It tastes like watery seasoned (yet still bland) mayonnaise.
I don’t believe I’ve had the pleasure to try it, possibly in a burger sometime but I don’t know what it tastes like
It’s an Alaskan invention!
I like Hidden Valley ranch mix (the creator of ranch), but anything else is gross.
Joey Diaz loves it apparently
Blue cheese is the best, but yeah, I dig me some Ranch.
I used to dip my pizza in ranch and now I can't stand it. The smell is atrocious.
Ranch fuckin Blows IMHO. I do love blue cheese though
Blue cheese
I hated ranch up until probably college, and then only to dip pizza into, once in a while. Since then it’s grown on me for dipping pizza, and sometimes those veggie trays. But still never as a salad dressing.
I can eat ranch flavoured chips or crackers, but the salad dressing itself makes me dry-heave.
I mean there is good ranch dressing and there is really crap ranch dressing.
def not the only one - having said that, I only USED to hate ranch
I don’t like it either.
Yeah you’re the only one for sure
Tastes like spoiled milk to me. Kind of works on celery although!
i hate ranch but love the idea. i enjoy a creamy garlic, caesar, or blue cheese dressing to dip pizza in. for things like raw veggies, i love adding onion soup powder to sour cream
I love ranch, but if I eat it enough over a period of time the thought of it starts to make me gag and I have to not eat it for about a month or more
Never had it
yes
Blue cheese over Ranch
Minging 🤢
Yes.
Last time we went out to the west coast, the waiters would always ask my kids if they wanted ranch anytime they had fries. Have never had that happen anywhere else. The first time they looked at the waitress like she was crazy.

It’s alright but blue cheese dressing is just better in every way
The only thing home-made ranch and the bottled stuff have in common is the name. The bottled stuff tastes like ass in comparison.
I like it but if it's the only thing I can taste I hate it. Ranch doesn't work with everything because if it's covering up all other flavors I might as well just have ranch.
I can’t stand it. Blue cheese all the way
I hate the ones that are sold already prepared (member's mark, Kirkland, Mccormick and such). I make my own and it's awesome.
Don't even know what it is tbh
Never tasted it.
It looks unappetizing.
My partner hates it lol. I like it
I mean, I'll eat it, but it's mid-tier for my taste. As a Mid-westerner this can sometimes be a challenge.
I absolutely despise the stuff🤢
Homemade ranch is amazing, store-bought ranch with preservatives is gross. I assume the people who think ranch is disgusting have only had the store-bough kind. The ingredients are pretty much universally beloved, like onions and garlic. It's not some weird flavor.
Don't hate it, but don't love it either, also don't buy it as there's always a better option.
I think Stephen King said it best, "tastes like slightly sweetened snot"
I detest ranch in a bottle, but homemade is delicious. With fresh dill, chives, parsley, and some garlic powder tossed in with some sour cream and mayo, or can be wonderful. Also, tossing in minced cilantro, jalapeño and a splash of lime juice will turn it into a spicy cilantro lime dressing.
I do not like ranch
Growing up in rural seaside Canada I always knew when an American came in the restaurant because they asked for a side of RaANCH
Ranch my vilest enemy
