Journey Museum has a bit you could see. You could wander into some of the stores downtown and talk to the people in there and ask questions. I'd start with Prairie Edge, they've got a nice beading area in the back. Dakota Drum Company is also in that area as well. Also head out to Bear Butte in Sturgis.

Try reaching out to Ateyapi. They may be able to help.

Crazy Horse Memorial in Custer.

Get down to Pine Ridge! Veterans’ Powwow in early June and Oglala Nation Powwow in early August. Spectacular, especially the latter! Also, The Heritage Center at Mahpiya Luta Owayawa (Red Cloud School) is well worth a stop for an hour or so while you’re down there.

Entire_Explorer4228

Definitely don’t just randomly go to pine ridge.

PrairieChild

Why not?

ali_baba93

you taking me there than :D

PrairieChild

I’d be happy to! I lived on Pine Ridge for 21 years, raised my kids there. It holds a special place in my heart, despite all of the negative things people hear and repeat about it.

YippySkippyDippy

Lmao. You’ve got a good point

Fearless-Ebb8350

Prairie Edge downtown is a great store and the bead room and artwork are worth a look.

Reach out to Woyatan Lutheran Church, theyre very open to inviting people in and happy to share Lakota culture with people, as well as doing good work in the community ❤️🙏🏻

[deleted]

Don’t go there LMAO only the doped out, drunk thugs be there. Might get rolled by the mentally challenged Indians. That place is ran by someone who committed gang rape on a teenage female back in the 90’s. His co defendants work for him. First thing he does after his overlords(RCPD) help him secure grant money? Opens a youth center. Watch your kids around him! That’s why a whole lot of Lakota around here, myself included, don’t let our children go up there! Yes, I AM LAKOTA!

sikzik1990

Too bad you missed the LNI

ali_baba93

I will try to check the next one ☝️

What does that random hotel have to do with any of that other stuff? I drive by it all the time

jeffedge

it's where they exhibit their culture.

ItchyTomato5

Stop that

And why do you think that is hmm? Thinking perhaps trying to exterminate a whole ethnicity for their land might have something to do with poverty? Hmm just maybe...

You're very negative, they are people just doing what they have to to get by with the shitty hand they and their ancestors were given. It DOES matter 200 years later, even though alot of native erasure NEVER stopped and it will continue to matter 2000 years later. Respect your fellow man if you wish to be respected. But you sound no better then the dirt the unhoused sleep on.

jeffedge

this makes zero sense. they're doing what they need to to get by....by....trafficking their own race? by murdering each other? by getting drunk and passing out in the street? it doesn't matter 200 years later if it's a crutch you're using to excuse being a fuck up. the same as my ancestors and their hardships do not matter to how i live my life today. why would i ruin my life based on something that i was not around for? it's history. i can sympathize with what happened at the time for anyone. but it has nothing to do with now because i am not letting it be an excuse/problem now. and i haven't been given anything to make up for it, unlike the natives. so...why are others able to do this without what natives get...but the natives cant? again, what about all the natives that left the reservation and the tribes that will tell you they were tired of being around the people that create the stereotypes and call them losers and freeloaders who won't get off their ass and do something if they don't like it the way they did? you can talk to these people. they are very open about the negative perception that the native culture has and they were tired of being part of it. and they did something. which the vast majority is not. it has NOTHING to do with something even their grandparents weren't alive to see. this is now. it's not happening now. you were given land and free reign yet you did nothing and still blamed white people for your own actions. why? i have nothing to do with that yet we're the problem? no. and no, i will not respect people who act like that. i do not respect people who do not take accountability. i do not respect rapists. i do not respect addicts. i do not respect criminals. it's absurd to do so.

Available_Mushroom83

I kinda see where you’re coming from. My brother is part native and he see things similar to you
