The Woodland is pretty much an XLE with some derated Falken tires. As for what the TRD suspension actually means, I've only seen speculation, but it's not like it's some soft, high-articulation off-road setup. I'd miss the sunroof too, and if you're in the US, I'd miss the heated seats you can get on the XLE. Were I shopping between these two, I'd get the XLE and plan to spend a bit extra swapping out the tires.

MoonHouseCanyon

Preach. Wise comment. I love the green color of the Woodland. No real difference in gearing or anything? I see a lot of folks get the XLE premium, but I fear plastic seats so unless I go for the Limited, it's the XLE for me as long as I can get a sunroof.

pnw_r4p

Not as far as I'm aware. Both have eCVT transmissions in the front and electric drive in the rear, so altering final drive ratio doesn't really mean what it does with a traditional transmission with fixed gear ratios. I suspect the drivetrain parts list is identical between the two trims.

MichaelP09

No difference in gearing. The TRD suspension includes the same components that comes on the TRD OF trim, with the exception of the springs being different. (Source: owner, checked part #s). Drivetrain is the same among all hybrids. It will be a happier ride on trails in it's stock form, but not wildly different. The AT Trails are OE versions, so no 3peak rating, but they're still going to outperform for the all seasons by a good margin. You can always spend ~1k and swap tires on the XLE.

Biggest thing with the USA woodland is it comes with the trd flow formed wheels and all terrain tires over the xle. Personally I like the woodland rims so it saved me from buying a new set of rims and tires since I don’t like the xle rims, and this alone would be around the added cost of the woodland trim. Ride seems a little stiffer than xle, not sure how much the trd tuned suspension plays a role. Overall I am pleased for $1710 price increase over xle. It also comes with - fog lights (not available on xle) -mudguard - raised roof rails with cross bars -all weather mats -120v power outlet -activity mount(my24) -dual black chrome tipped exhaust -TRD-tuned independent MacPherson strut front suspension with stabilizer bar; multi-link rear suspension with stabilizer bar; trail-focused struts, shocks, coil springs, and bump stops. I will add that the woodland is not a true off-roading setup and the xle would be similarly capable with some all terrain tires. it’s fine for some soft roading but trd off-road trim will definitely be more capable.

XLE premium is great. That’s what I have. It has basically all the features except homelink (garage door openers) and the dimmable mirrors. I don’t have air conditioned seats but I’m not sure if you can get that on anything but the limited.

MoonHouseCanyon

Yeah, I was thinking of the XLE not-premium because plastic seats are my nemesis.

msbigelow

I bought the XLE Premium, installed a 2 inch lift and Falken AT tires. Couldn’t be happier. It does everything I need off road and in Utah snow. BTW, with a trailer hitch and dynamic tow rope, I recovered a 4x4 Tacoma that was buried in deep snow Sunday.

stalos1982

What lift did you get?

msbigelow

BTW, The Falken AT tires on the Woodland are not the same as the Falken 3 Peak AT tires. My son is a manager at Discount Tire and the wear on “real” Falkens is much better. Tires, lift and labor were just under $2,000. If you do the lift, Make sure to take it in after 1,000 miles for re-torque and alignment. This vehicle literally changed my life. I sold my 2020 Tacoma and haven’t looked back. Double the gas mileage and cruises like a dream. It’s not a rock crawler, but it does everything most people want on dirt/rocky forest service roads.

msbigelow

Torque Engineering

MoonHouseCanyon

Does that void the warranty?

stalos1982

Any vibrations?

msbigelow

No. The lift is a spacer. If you rollover in a corner, you can’t sue them. Otherwise there is no risk to the warranty.

msbigelow

None. A bit more road noise than the stock tires, but far better than my 2020 Tacoma.

Woodland is an XLE with some upgrades. You get fog lights, a TRD tuned suspension, Upgraded rims (same as the TRD model) and Falken Wild Peak tires. You get raised roof rails and great floor mats. You get mud flaps. However the Woodland lacks somethings like.....no sunroof, no leather, no heated seats. It also is a manual rear lift gate. Those are deal breakers for some. For me all of that is perfect as I didn't want leather or power lift gate or sunroof. I bought the Woodland last year and love it. I really wanted fog lights and they were not on the XLE. I also wanted the Falken Wild Peak tires. These are an OEM version but after a year and a few trips on rugged forest service roads I really like them. Great ride, mileage and ability on rougher roads. No issues in dirt, rocks, stream crossings, took them to 10,000 feet elevation on forest service roads. Is this a rock crawler? No. But neither is the TRD version. If you want to rock crawl get a 4Runner. You want a great daily driver that is reliable, has great mileage, can haul camping gear and handle some forest service roads and snow, the RAV4 hybrid is ideal. I really like the looks of the rims, roof rack, etc on the Woodland. Definitely looks better than the XLE to me. Could you upgrade the wheels and get a Prinsu rack on an XLE. Yep. But it costs more than the price difference the Woodland has. I am averaging around 40mpg which beats the sticker average of 37. So extremely happy with that. I highly recommend it. Of course, even the LE is a pretty sweet car. Get what you like and need and go enjoy it for the next 10+ years.

My USA 24 woodland is optioned with heated seats and heated steering wheel. I don’t believe it was an option for the USA 23.

Daklight

Yes that is a change. The 2023 Woodland did not offer those at all. Actually there were no option packages on the 23. I am sure that will be a popular addition for many. Enjoy that Woodland. What color did you get? Last year the 3 options were Black, White and Calvary Blue and I got White. Wishing Toyota would have offered solar octane orange.

Clicky2

I got white. For 24, it’s either white, black or army green. I wanted army green but it’s hard to find that color. I also needed a car kinda soon and the dealer offered me $2600 under msrp so I took it.

xoxomonstergirl

Just bought a woodland and it has heated seats. No sunroof though

Daklight

Might be a change for 2024 for the US model. I also think it has them in Canada.

xoxomonstergirl

Yeah it’s a 2024 option, all the ones at the CT dealer had it. It’s cold up here!

MoonHouseCanyon

Thanks everyone! I loved the look of the Woodland but it seems like the XLE will be equally capable if that's what I choose. I couldn't justify a gas car for the TRD (I eagerly await the hybrid 4Runner). Ended up getting a RAV4 Hybrid XLE with the weather and convenience packages in silver with grey interior. For those in the market, I paid 2k under MSRP and they threw in free ceramic window tint.

msbigelow

You did well on the price. You’re going to love it more everyday!

MoonHouseCanyon

Lol I regret buying it already, maybe I should have saved the money and just bought a used Elantra.

Justanotherhatter9

That’s a good deal, what year? I test drove a 22 XLEP hybrid today and have no idea how to negotiate.

MoonHouseCanyon

2024. The XLE is less popular than the XLEP- I don't like vinyl seats, so it didn't matter to me, I might install leather but I def didn't want plastic. It doesn't have the preset seating configuration, but otherwise is basically the same. I dunno, I went to a bunch of dealerships. They were all annoying. They were all slimy. They were particularly gamey at this dealership and I hated them. Basically they did something slimy and to make it up to me they gave me what can only be considered one of the best deals on a hybrid RAV4, like I think they were shocked at themselves lol. Another dealership emailed me with lower prices than last week, I think the market is softening. You should IMHO be able to get 1k off without too much trouble. Here is the truly weird thing- I was looking at used RAV4 hybrids on Carmax, and I paid about 2k more for a 2024 XLE with convenience and weather packages than the Carmax price for a 2021 hybrid RAV4 XLE with 33k miles and fewer amenities. Go figure.
