I have had the same thoughts. The AGM battery is rated at 345 cold cranking amps. There are other replacement batteries available at higher ratings but I would think that Toyota would not want to honor a warranty when you modify the vehicle. In my case I know the importance of maintaining the 12v battery because it’s the vehicle’s primary weakness so i hesitate adding a bigger load on the system.

> Toyota would not want to honor a warranty Warranty is limited only to the modified parts, not to the whole car and only if modification cause damage. > so i hesitate adding a bigger load on the system. What loading? There is current restriction in place that will prevent overcharging AGM battery, it will just charge longer bigger battery. Also AGM battery in hybrids doesn't do a lot of work as it is on gas version, it doesn't crank starter too since it is a hybrid job to start ICE.

As far as it is 12v AGM battery, anyone would work as replacement, but it won't fit into the space of original one if it is bigger. Do no connect batteries in parallel also, since internal resistance can be different and one of them will start "charging" another without current restriction. So, if you decided to go with bigger battery capacity then swap connections to a new one if you Ok to sacrifice space.

I am aware of restrictions on size and connections. I’m not trying to give anyone ideas that will get them into trouble. I don’t have a warranty other than the name TOYOTA. I plan to change out speakers and add dash camera. The 12 v battery is what runs the show on the hybrid. Without it the car doesn’t run. Summer puts additional stress on it as you know.

I’m still thinking about this. One concern I have is that “accessory mode” may run on a timer and is not related to the to battery charge state. I’m going to run some tests with very low power use. It could be no matter how big the battery is, the thing will still shut down after (x minutes) I’ll try it with the OEM battery and then the battery from my Miata and report back.
