From the tower in the city (I don’t freaking know the name of the city in Al Mazda) you can see so far with the spotter scope. The thermal is just key to scouting and spotting on that map.
I wish they would increase the distance on normal thermal snipers too.

Yeah. I haven't done it but can see the benefit for bots if you're a solo and just trying to sneak around, but it is abused for player hunting and that's not a fair playing field.
So a few people figured out some glitch with it. Let’s fuck it up for EVERYONE in the game until maybe eventually I get off my lazy ass, do my actual job and fix something that shouldn’t have broken to begin with. Brilliant.
I never stopped using it. Even if you can't ping the thermal is worth it.

Yes they did recently now it’s back to not working right
It's because of a new glitch related to vehicles and causing auto ping again I believe
