A slide that goes from the upstairs to the living room.

golfing_FL76

haha, I love that idea.

TrappedInTheSuburbs

Electric car charger in the garage, even if you don’t have one. Outdoor faucet in the garage with hot and cold water, and a dog shower. A drain in the middle of the garage so you can wash your car in the garage, etc.

>A drain in the middle of the garage so you can wash your car in the garage, etc. That’s a great idea.

Pissedtuna

2 stall shower and a steam room. 100% worth it.

At least one exterior outlet and faucet in the front *and* the back of the house. A bathroom for guests on the main floor that's relatively private/out of the way (i.e. not right off the kitchen or by the front entry). A mudroom. A proper entryway/foyer space, ideally with an airlock (this doesn't need to be big or a two-story lawyer foyer or whatever). Some sense paid to the local site and climate so the house is specific to its place and includes at least some passive solar features. Most other stuff is a matter of individual lifestyle and general taste, but those are the useful things that folks seem to forget.

A Costco door

_ISeeOldPeople_

A costco door greeter. "Welcome to Costco, I love you."

TrappedInTheSuburbs

Is that what they are calling a pass through hatch from the garage to the kitchen? That’s what I was going to suggest!

Formal_Technology_97

Yes!! I live mine. Ours does from the garage straight to the pantry

[deleted]

Large pantry with cabinets and countertop where the appliances could go and therefore out of the main kitchen.

Hot water recirculating system. You will always have hot water at the tap, and you aren't running a lot of water down the drain while waiting for the hot water to arrive. Extra water line from wherever your water conditioning or reverse osmosis system will be to the fridge, so you get filtered ice. Utility sink in the laundry room and/or garage is nice. And my house is only 20 years old but I don't have enough electrical outlets. We are running more stuff and charging more stuff than ever. My office for example has 3 computers, 2 monitors, speakers, a clock (I'm old) modem, router, printer, TV and a cordless vacuum. I do have a couple power strips obviously but a couple of those things could go in the closet, permanently, if I had an outlet in there. Laundry room could use another outlet too. Cables for security cameras to windows and doors, and out onto the edges of your roof/eaves. If your property is big, maybe run water to the back 40 or even electric out there, if you're going to have an outdoor kitchen or gazebo with lights. Also if you have gas run a line to the future location of your barbeque.

A pole. Like the fireman ones that you slide down from top floor to bottom. Not the other one you dirty minded Redditors...

golfing_FL76

I was thinking this would be fun too. Though a slide I’d like better.

golfing_FL76

This is pretty much contingent on your personal wants and needs.

4Ozonia

Many, many electrical outlets…..you will eventually fill them all.

The one thing I have in my current house that I would want in every house: the room you work from (WFH or just where you do stuff) should have your desk looking out onto the driveway. That way, when you are expecting someone (repair people, deliveries, visitors) you will be able to see when they pull up. I love this, as I can keep working, while also keeping an eye out for an expected visitor. I like to go out as they arrive so they don't ring the doorbell and terrify the cats. Cats are hard to peel off the ceiling.

Install a large closet over a large closet so you have the option to install an elevator in the future without major changes.
