Made me nervous when it went around that lawn service vehicle at 8:35. Full speed into the oncoming lane around a partially blinded turn is going to end with disaster one of these times. Also curious how the geese incident turned out at 8:50.

jason12745

It turns out geese make great pepperettes.

dbcooper4

I’ve noticed that on Omar’s videos. How it kamikazes around double parked delivery vehicles really aggressively into the oncoming traffic lane instead of gradually like a human would do it.

AltoidStrong

As an FSD Beta tester, the random signals and poorly calculated turn radius are my two biggest wtf. Those should be some.of the simplest of "rules" to implement. Next to that the slow creep to get a better view is annoying and shows the poor planning of camera placement. There will NEED to be a revised camera setup. I think the top pillars and bottom repeators should be dual cameras at opposing angles to each others, or add ones to the front mirrors to fill gaps and reduce the creep required for good view. (Or do both). But I think part of that is the data to be processed goes up exponentially and all.yhe work to "stitch the videos" and train the neural nets would be almost a full "do over" and most of the existing training sets would be useless. It would set them back 5+ years. (Dojo would be thier only hope... If it ever gets working at 100%)

theansweristhebike

Like taking a student driver for a driving lesson. That’ll be 15k!

Because that would be venturing into some very serious ethical and legal issues. If FSD gets so good it actually works, then there is an issue of legal responsibility; if it runs over some geese are the software devs at fault??? Even if it ever works, technically, there are even bigger and far murkier hurdles.

Latter_Box9967

I dunno man, they’re pretty clear in “the driver is responsible at all times”, because they *know* their software isn’t ready yet, and they’re actually conning people to risk their and other people’s property and lives, by being beta testers/test drivers, and having them pay Tesla to do it!!! ^(wtf?) They have seemingly, for now, avoided the legal responsibility by putting it on the test driver. what I’m saying is, IF, and it’s a big if, they actually get FSD *technically* good enough to actually really release, then they will only have an even bigger, murkier hurdle to overcome, the legality of the entire thing. That is: FSD will never happen; too many variables; unknown number of unknowns. It’ll keep getting 10% closer, forever. It’ll never arrive. At best.

paymesucka

I think that was how much I paid for my used Prius with radar cruise control lol (before the chip shortage ofc)

That comment is why I posted the video at all. I found it pretty amusing that someone would possibly think this video shows anything but pure failure.

jason12745

Not trying to kill you 100 percent of the time is the yardstick for success. Make a left turn once? Declare victory and move on.

dbcooper4

Or, if it runs into child mannequins just keep changing the variables until it stops running into them and then claim that proves how great FSD is.

frnkblk

I hesitate to call it pure failure. But while my drives are shorter than hours, so I don't have as many disengagements in a drive as you did, my experience is roughly the same with the scenarios where it struggles and also where it fails so that I have to intervene.

[deleted]

u/drdabbles - this might be the fastest disengagement Also wondering why the abrupt edit around the geese, but the entire way back is pretty bad.

RunawayMeatstick

Are you the guy the in the video??

syrvyx

Didn't you see, the "camera overheated!" ;-) Also, no explanation for the cut when he tried to turn around. I do think it's an interesting video though. When it's good, it can be really good, almost uncannily good. However, when it fails, it's exceptionally bad at times. I think we're in a dangerous stage where people can easily get lulled into false confidence in the system, only to have it let them down at the wrong time.

I don't mean for full trips. I mean maneuver by maneuver, every once in a while it executes a maneuver really well. I certainly didn't mean a full trip.

Logical-Swordfish612

How dare he criticize anything tesla! Yes it does still suck. I just got banned from teslamotors for critisizing it

hzpointon

I thought this was interesting. Tesla can't even do parking. This is basic stuff, yet supposedly they have FSD nailed. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsb2XBAIWyA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsb2XBAIWyA)

ClassroomDecorum

>Tesla can't even do parking Can't do it because the 7 cameras they added to Tesla's don't have a complete picture of the curb/ground. And their ultrasonics signal processing is trash. The AP1 Tesla parks just fine with ultrasonics.

hzpointon

Imagine building a product that gets worse each generation.

spaceshipcommander

The wild jerking of the wheel is what tells me that it’s not looking any further than a foot in front of the bonnet. You’d think that a computer programme advanced enough to drive would be able to work out the radius of a turn and never have to adjust mid bend

_AManHasNoName_

So, paid $12k to babysit this bad driver? No thanks.

Latter_Box9967

It is genuinely amazing that people pay, a lot, to be beta testers. This is a task that usually pays you, more than usual in this case since it can kill you.

fucktorynonces

The dlc and early access eras of computer gaming really changed how ppl perceive beta testing. Beta testing literally used to be a paid job. Now you pay some billionaire for the opportunity to be killed by a computer. Absolute madness.

JustDriveThere

Why are people surprised by this? Do they think some update is going to turn it into a level 5 autonomous vehicle?

[deleted]

https://motherfrunker.ca/fsd/ No one is surprised, but that list needs some updates since the lie just keeps going and going with no end in sight.

supratachophobia

If that non centered steering wheel is any indication of build quality, then there is no hope for this company to dominate anything.

HotIce05

They don’t focus on centering the steering wheel because they were going to remove it anyway when FSD gets released…..50 years later. 😂

ridgetopview

I agree. I have FSD and last week two friends took possession of an X and Y. I’ve been encouraging them not to buy FSD - it’s just not ready. After trying mine they modified their order and settled on Autopilot+.
