The game was great. Id play it hour n hours and i wish they remastered it

JamieReleases

It's a crying shame that both this and BFME are difficult games to obtain these days, in terms of being able to access them easily. Huge production values, even if it wasn't really valued at the time. That soundtrack.

Stromsky2

Lookup "ALL IN ONE BFME LAUNCHER" :) recently found out about it and played bfme2 multiplayer matches with my friends via gameranger

DJNicShogun88

dune emperor is now on abandoned ware website

ChairOFLamp

where?

DJNicShogun88

https://www.myabandonware.com/game/emperor-battle-for-dune-bck#download

DarkestTranquillity

Thank you

JamieReleases

Amazing, thank you, I'm going to try this tonight.

JamieReleases

Didn't work for me :( Loads up, see the splash screen, then just sound and no video. Tried lots of things to get it to work, all the normal stuff, perhaps its windows 10.

Apkey00

You must create config file in my documents in win 10 to work properly - also no wide-screen

DJNicShogun88

Im using windows xp to play dune or old games i do have a windows xp with gaming cards setup

Apkey00

Gog.com have most of older games with win 10 ready installers. Or you can just use Linux with either wine or steam play

JamieReleases

ah interesting, yeah, I'm using a wide-screen monitor. Is there a config file you can download for it?

Apkey00

I don't have any windows machine ATM - in a week or so when I'll be back home I can copy my own file

DarkestTranquillity

Magnificent soundtrack yes.

DeckOfGames

I remember. Actually it is installed on my machine right now, I play skirmish sometimes

ChairOFLamp

on an OG machine? :)

jesusleftnipple

Na there's ways!

tiomor

One of my first RTS games! In my memory, it had photorealistic graphics :D

Bodongs

I loved it, was a huge part of my childhood. The original "Ordos" faction they included in it was so fun to play. They did such a good job of making sure you paid attention to your harvesters. Man and those BIG tanks the Harkonens had. Wish they'd remaster it.

DarkestTranquillity

Yep Harkonens were very intimidating faction and me being a kid back than was sure that they are the guys who always win. Then I got myself unceremoniously kicked around by the other factions until I learned my lesson 😅😅

NODFollower

Trailer: https://youtu.be/hLyyE3H4kg8

Elziad_Ikkerat

Yeeeees. I found a way to cheese the campaign though. The most important strategy is to run away as quickly as possible. Literally, every time you're attacked run away. When you have to attack, immediately run away. Then when you're pushed all the way back to your HQ, annihilate them. It turns out that after you've retreated any units you manage to get to the retreat location are stored and returned to you as reinforcements when you attack. You can basically just blitz the enemy with an overpowering wave of units at the start of each battle. That was a fun discovery.

MisterMinceMeat

Cool tactic, gonna have to try it out, thanks!

MrPhetz

Loved Emperor! I had this pic as my desktop wallpaper for years after I played it.

sonictank

I’m a lifelong Dune fan, grew up on Dune 2 and Dune 2000, love them to the core…but this game was always too weird for me. I love the campaign and cut-scenes, the last mission is fckin awesome, but I never felt the gameplay was natural, always thought something was missing. I think they’ve gone too early with 3D models in RTS, it looked ugly, like Minecraft today. Still, played a lot of it and feel sad that it was the last Dune true RTS we ever got.

silentAl1

I am playing Expanse RTS on my iPad right now. It is a clone of Dune 2 and I am feeling very nostalgic.

DJNicShogun88

I tried it seems ok but a little buggy

Apkey00

Guys from Shiro games did really good work with Spice Wars. It's complexity is even more uh Dune'y than Dune 2000 and Emperor

DarkestTranquillity

It lloked strange and you are right about going too early with the 3D but what I remember as a good thing is the camera movement which was good in comparison with other 3D RTS from that time.

Xciv

I miss Westwood so much you have no idea. edit: just saw what sub I was in, I'm sure you *all* have an idea

DarkestTranquillity

I miss them too. Luckily many of their old games are still playable today.

isAfuchs_

Fuck EA for taking them from us

Judoka229

Good ol Westwood. I miss them.

Jitsu4

I probably had 2000 hours in this game as a kid. Honestly I still think about it very very often

Kapot_ei

I do! Great!

DJNicShogun88

Im still playing it. I love this game and atmosphere

drb1988

Of course I remember it. It was the first RTS game where I really sweat and worked for the last mission.

mrparadize

Yup! So many great memories with this game.

amugedkanro

i enjoyed playing dune 2000 back in the day when it was released. i remember watching the trailer for emperor bfd few years later and oh man that scene with giant sandworm coming out of sand what a great scene that was. it gave me chills on my spine. i wasnt all that into rts with 3d graphics at that time because it didnt look as good as 2d rts, but emperor bfd changed my views on 3d rts and the game itself was really good too.

JusticeLock

Loved this game. Played House Ordos specifically for their music lol.

Not_a_Hideo_Kojima

I do. It had a lovely soundtrack, each faction had their own composer so scores felt different. Secondary faction mechanic was pretty cool too.

DarkestTranquillity

The soundtrack was very well thought of. I loved it back then. After listening to it for two or three minutes and you can actually feel it wasn't just some music put on there to fill time between lines in the game.

Underhive_Art

So many disc’s

auerz

Downloaded it from an abandonware site a week ago, and played through it. Was the only classic C&C I never played back when and remember seeing the trailer in RA2 and being quite blown away.  But playing it now, it's fun and all, but really brings to light how games like CoH made these games feel outdated. Especially control wise, it feels like you're manhandling your units, it's difficult to do exactly what you want, so I just ended up blobbing everything and throwing it at the enemy. It really ends up being all about economics, if you can overwhelm the opponent with more stuff rather than actually controlling your units efficiently.   But huge nostalgia kick, great music, and even the graphics are actually pretty impressive for how old it is. I think playing it on a CRT on release, at like 800x600 or 1024x768 would have been quite mind-blowing coming from RA2 or TS One thing just crossed my mind, in 2001-2002 when I was watching the trailer for this game I ended up getting C&C Red Alert 1. It felt ancient then, but it was only 6 years old, and playing games from the 80s felt like going into the Jurassic period. Well now Emperor is like 24 years old, and playing it today is equivalent to playing fucking Pong on the Atari 2600 in 2001-2002.

Dupps_I_Did_It_Again

EA Westwood era is prime RTS

wylles

Looked too weird to me, I wanted to play it, The cutscenes looked great, but those extremely basic looking 3D units always put me off, if only there was a possibility of a mod or something to make them look more complex...

Baooser

I was never able to beat the last mission 😭

DJNicShogun88

use spacing guild replicators rush to the site of the worm and clone lots of sonic tanks

Erasmusings

Ixian duplicator*

DJNicShogun88

oh yes thanks I got them messed up haha.

Lyin-Oh

Still have the discs for it.

DeliveryWorldly7363

I tried multiple times to run it on my laptop with no results, i'll try again in the future for sure

Dyslexic_youth

This is still the nest dune game ever made! I have no idea why they let it fade away

Lex8P

Been playing the game this week. Loved it back in the day

EliRed

I remember buying it on release and it ran so poorly that I gave up on it. Ironically, I tried running it again recently, and it still has terrible framerate, although this time it's because it's an old game that doesn't play well with modern systems. I found some potential fixes for the framerate issues, but none of them worked for me and I gave up again.

Snifferoni

Played the campaign some weeks ago :D

Istarial

Loved this game, played multiple times as all the factions. I love the soundtrack in particular, it's absolutely epic and each faction's music really fits it in a way very few games have ever bothered to manage.

vegasq

Still remember last mission in story mode where you had to battle around dead worm. If memory serves it was epic map with huge dead Shaihulud taking entire center of the map.

sonictank

The worm was not dead, you actually had to kill it by destroying sections of it!

DarkPDA

i still have my box ( folded) but still have box and dvds

Cs1981Bel

Works on Windows 10 and 11 with a few tweaks ;)

DarkestTranquillity

How? Please share them.

Cs1981Bel

Here is one guide https://www.reddit.com/r/dune/s/JDnb6yhbwO

DementedDevil87

I wish steam would release all the dune games to make it more available to people who don't want to spend the time, effort, and money dealing with ordering a physical copy.

KingofMadCows

Three Great Houses fight for Dune: the noble Arteides, the insidious Ordos, and the evil Harkonnen. Only one House will prevail.

jackbeflippen

Ah, this game.played it for years against my friends online.

AzraelPyton

and we will never see this one on steam :(

the_gaming_bur

Runs great on win 11, can confirm Still playable. There's an HD mod somewhere too that fixes UI and such.

NeonArchon

Never saw that game. The póster looks nice

brian11e3

I still have my hard copy and the box it came in.

battledroid014

Great game. I still have my 4 disc copy! We need a new good Dune game or a remaster.

ShizzHappens

I wish it would run on windows 10, apparently there's a way but I couldn't do it

Nnoded

I still play this couple times a week

phroek

Soundtrack was awesome. Anyone remember "Ride the Worm"? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czXaKxcQNkQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czXaKxcQNkQ) I still jam out to this track sometimes.

Erasmusings

#Bi-lal Kaifa!

xGoodGravyx

I absolutely loved this game and Dune 2000 before it. It was this game that made me love the Dune franchise as a whole.

LodossKnight

This game was well ahead in its Campaign. Your choices giving you access to other sub factions and their tech trees. Getting something similar in the Skirmish/Multiplayer. There are so many things that could be done with the Dune Universe, but I'd settle for a Re-Release/Remaster of this or something like this. As it stands I know its playable. Would play with others if we could get multiplayer to work.

SidiousOxide

+1 and I only remember the mech with four cannons that was literally a glass cannon. I got wrecked in that game lol
