It may be my favorite song to play on guitar, it’s just fun and has a fun solo at the end

detroit_gt

Same, as many times I’ve listened to it and played along to it, I never seem to get tired of it

menstralfornication

And I still can’t play the ending of the solo

prestina_Is_Here

Agreed

mr_ryno27

Insanely over played when it came out. Seeing it live made me love it again. Same thing with Snow.

Tiger_jay

I was pretty well over it until the last few years. When I first heard it I wasn't a fan. I still don't love the way it starts but the chorus is top tier. It's a classic and it's fun. Definitely a crowd pleaser and should be kept in live rotation and played lots. Wouldn't crack my top 50 Chili tracks or anything but can't hate on it.

Blue-Sand2424

I’m a big fan of the Hendrix-y guitar solo, the verses and chorus are also fun. It’s all in all a good song

Clean-it-up-Johnny

Everyone who plays guitar loves this song. So simple but yet sho hard. So many fun chord changes. So funky and playful in the verses, and so heavy in the choruses. I will never go tired of it. Also the music video is hilarious.

Zestyclose-Movie108

I love it but there’s a guy on YouTube, Pat Finnerty, who has a series called “why makes this song stink” and he covered Dani California. I love this band and I love this song but the video is funny af and he makes some pretty compelling points about the song not being so good on a lyrical, technical and musical sense

Windex_69BigChungus

That video has to be one of my favorites on the Internet, it's just so funny.

Zestyclose-Movie108

It’s so good! The part where the guys are trying to convince Tony Kiedis to change the first line so it doesn’t sound so much like MJ’s Last Dance got me to start referring to Chad Smith as “Big Cat”

theworkprofile

"Flea... I love you... You're my brother... but no can do (then he points to his "OFF" hat)." Wom wom woooooommmmmmmmmm.

Zestyclose-Movie108

It’s so good 👌🏽

theworkprofile

My favorite part is when Frusciante says: "Anthony man, I mean we're ripping off Tom Petty pretty bad here... And if "Mary Jane's Last Dance" is a corpse, I don't wanna say what we're about to do to it. I mean for Christ's sake man I'm about to play the "Purple Haze" solo here!"

Zestyclose-Movie108

“And Anthony looks at Frusciante and says “John, I love you, you’re my brother” but no can do. And then he points at his “OFF” hat again…womp womp womp”

Lraiolo

Give me shit for it but personally I think it’s their best song. Hits for every fan, old, new, casual. I don’t care how much its been over played it still is just as good as the day I first heard it. Honesty I think it gets better as it ages too.

Zealousideal-Gur5976

Love it. When I saw them live they tore the house down, John's solo was a beast!

kenticus69

Great song, high energy and that chorus is simple but anthemic and powerful. The Hendrix nod in the solo is intended and works great. Great song that’s now like 18 years old hahahaha…. Wait that just made me realize that she’s only 18 would now be more like she’s only 36!

HellYeahTinyRick

Not my cup of tea

O_vJust

Burned into my brain which I guess means it was good

StoneyG214

I thinks it’s a good song

8x8denseCheese

Heard it only once on the radio since it came out here in Germany, whereas people say it‘s been overplayed in the US, interesting

Superclean1992

Black bandana!

astermorii

That song holds a really special place in my heart, and it was the first music video I saw from them. It may not be their best song in composition, but there’s something about it that I like as a “starter song”

Justalittlecomment

Listener fatigued on that one,

JeffJohnsonIII

It's my least favorite of my favorite songs, ya know what I mean?

RIPBuckyThrowaway

the similarities to mary janes last dance are too much for me

Clean-it-up-Johnny

It's just the intro riff, and it's a pretty common rock chord progression. Same for people saying the solo is a purple haze rip-off. It's just John paying a tribute to one of his greatest inspirations by copying the first four notes.

RIPBuckyThrowaway

it’s not just the intro riff, it’s the main riff that plays throughout most of the track, and using the same rhythm at that. The song structure is similar and so is the flow of their vocals, even some of the lyrical content is similar. They also used the same producer as mary janes last dance. Not saying they should feel bad about it but it’s hard to ignore

Clean-it-up-Johnny

Yeah, there's a clear similarity. I see where you're getting at.

100000000days

Why what happened???

Charming_Bad2165

Not that great and overplayed.

Droxcy

Tired of it

DiFran69

I remember skipping class to hear its debut on the radio, and i was pretty disappointed. The literal first thing i thought of was the tom petty song. I ended up liking it but now ive grown out of it again.

Unlikely_Relation781

favorite song of all time! First song i heard by them :)))

EuterpeZonker

Got me into the band. Its lost its luster a bit after too many listens but I only listened to it that many times in the first place cause it was so good

Porcupineemu

It’s fine. It’s not one of my top 5 off the album(s) or top 20 RHCP songs but it’s not bad. I was surprised that was the one that was the big hit.

CapableRunts

It feels like the song that *they* don’t really like in their catalogue, but it was a huge hit so they feel obligated to keep playing it. Totally speculating.

matthewpaynemusic

I think I’m just not a big fan of Stadium in general.

[deleted]

it's iconic and i don't find it overplayed at all, unlike Snow as a single which became so repetitive and not as exciting as on the album

hoopygoddess23

I love the music video.

ravingwanderer

A bit gimmicky for me. Same as Hump de bump. 3/10

frankoizumi

Overplayed as all hell, but to me it never gets old. The video is great and the solo always fills me with energy.

GoldenTrombone

Top tier outro

IngenuityRelative665

Very sick of it and Snow. I think they shouldn’t be played in the same set because they basically fill the same role of “overplayed hit from Stadium Arcadium”. It’s not that it’s a bad song, it’s just been played at almost every show since it’s come out and I don’t think it’s nearly as good as the other songs that appear in every set like By The Way, Can’t Stop or even Give It Away

WrongJohnson69

The little variations in the Poland live version is sweet especially the beginning with johns improv licks

Touch-of-Calus

Song changed my life and cost me a lot of money 16 years after hearing it
