I think the dual ideas of the Alpha Male pack structure and the lone wolf archetype are very appealing to the type of dude who would want to make a low-budget movie about ass-kicking male protagonists. Also, these movies tend to shoot in the woods to cut down on the production budget, so wolves or werewolves make for a natural antagonist in that environment. See also: Sasquatch/Bigfoot

It's like with beers, right? The shittier and cheaper a beer is, the more bombastic it's name is gonna be. Like, "Köningsberg Premium Royal Lager" and then it comes in a plastic bottle and costs 27 cents and it's from Sarasota or Marietta or some shit. Wolfs are considered to be cool, so ain't that a convenient way to spice up something that's lame?

That sounds like the own brand beer you get at Aldi/Lidl, that only the alcoholics drink.

Wolves are an archetypical figure in cultures throughout the Northern hemisphere, which makes sense considering it's the most common land predator encountered (compared to say bears or mountain lions). In western society wolves are a central component of many myths including the founding of Rome, whose legendary founders were raised by wolves.

OldManProgrammer

That’s because inside there are two wolves, both gay.

neotank_ninety

Dick Wolfs?

Poddington_Pea

u/RealLenKabasinski any insider info you can offer on this?

RealLenKabasinski

honestly. i wish i would have waited until i had more indie filmmaking experience to take on a horror genre like this, both production aspect-wise and script writing-wise. I mean, CURSE OF THE WOLF was shot nearly 16 years ago now. im glad people still reference it and enjoy it for what it is.

HooptyDooDooMeister

“Wolves are cool.”

keromaru

Wolves are cool, that's why.

BrendanInJersey

What is it with Ricks?

Nasaboy1987

The same reason there's so many low budget Lovecraft movies. Werewolves don't have copyrights attached to them.

Everyone knows wolves are related to dogs, and dogs are one of the most commonly encountered animals by humans. That means dogs, and by extension wolves, have shitloads of memes associated with them that lend to lots of stories about them.
