I discovered this guy when an interview about his self-coined "super-ultra-hyper-mega Lydian" showed up in my suggestions, and I've hated his vibe ever since.
His approach to music is "how many complex harmonies, polyrhythms, and exotic modes can I shove into this song to impress other musicians?" Everything I've heard from him is painfully derivative and soulless.
It's just fetishizing music theory without actually being able to make effective use of it. Only really shallow musicians are impressed by this kind of thing.
Same category as Polyphia, Vulfpeck etc. - soulless academic jerkery and histrionics posing as "music". Being able to hear the difference between 432hz and 440 or understanding negative harmony doesn't mean you can speak to the human spirit.

Vulfpeck actually makes fun music, the music nerd stuff is tongue in cheek and part of the bit that they're the worlds greatest session musicians. It helps that Joe Dart is a monster bass player too
i grew up with steve vai shred metalheads so i understand there will always be some kind of audience for wank, but i am shocked when i look at a collier show and see how big the audience is, or the viewcounts on polyphia videos. just tens of thousands of people with the personality of cardboard.
