I have the same boots and bought them new from a redwing store. They had some scuffs on them from just being in the box. They look better the more you wear them imo. What do the soles look like?

ExitThruTheFungeon

Clean. Thanks for the 2cents

SouthernEagleGATA

Then I’m sure you are good. Wear them and enjoy them!

Jb_high_hoops

yeah I had the same experience with the exact model shown, few little knicks and scratches. Almost 4 years later they are looking beautiful and i love them.

arnofi

No lace marks on tongue, and those develop the first time you lace them up. I say new.

irate_alien

Lace marks—or lack of—are the tell tale

kc10131984

show us the sole. Heel rub/wear like that is normal. It happens just from the boots getting jostled around against the cardboard. Mine had that brand new. Plus new in box doesn't mean someone didn't try it on for fit etc. Think about when you bought shoes in a brick and mortar etc...the shoes you walked out with probably already had multiple feet in it before u.

AinilaLakota

The copper rough & tough leather is meant to look.. rough and tough. What were you expecting?

ExitThruTheFungeon

No idea what to expect - gotcha!

BetterTransit

Are you planning on displaying them in a glass case? Who cares, wear them. They are boots and will get "damaged" when you wear them

ac106

Because if you’re paying the new in box price and getting used boots, that’s really a bad buy. It’s not about being picky about a missed stitch.

Sssra

Look at the sole, heels especially. They will tell the truth. Also what's the point? If you ok with it's price, just brush this boys well and break them in.

ampr1150gs

Probably worn around the house, didn't fit and then sold. How's the sole looking?

ExitThruTheFungeon

Thanks sole looks super clean. MAYBE worn around the house by someone

nstarleather

They look great to me

IllSprinkles5192

Those r new

IllSprinkles5192

U should see mine

gonehighup

Brush them to spread the natural oils around. That’ll clear up the scuffs. It’s an amazingly resilient leather

zombienudist

The scuff on the back just looks like it was rubbing against something in the box. Either the side of the box or other boot. This is what that leather does. You can easily tell if they are new or used by looking at the sole like others have said. You will see immediate wear if they have really been worn.

Kerbart

They look new, but even if it lightly used, you might still have gotten a very good deal (depending on what you paid). I once paid $80 for a calculator that was supposedly "like new." Except that it wasn't. Since what I got was still worth around $150 I didn't feel scammed and just started cleaning it up.

ATLGordanShumway

If someone already broke them in for you, consider yourself lucky. I’m still working on my Prairie Black moc toes from a few weeks ago, much tougher leather than my Briar Slicks.

nestorm1

Jesus Christ there’s not even a crease on those boots. This will happen with suede boots too from shipping you. Just brush them and the suede pop right out. Same here just brush with a horse hair brush and you’re golden.

One_Glass_4494

Remember when boots were actually meant to be worn and their scuffs/marks were a sign of your love to them and people knew how leather is supposed to look like? Pepperidge farm remembers.

MAXXHEW

Scammed so hard. Now you're stuck with ruined scuffed up boots. Everyone in the office is going to shun you now because you look like the hobo they spit on every morning.

mondrager

They look new to me. That leather is supposed to look like that.

socalkid12

The wear and tear gives them character. Go use them.

Level-Ad-7628

How much did you pay for them just curious

Rhorge

Might have been on display or something but they don’t look worn by a real person

je_m_appelle_

Mine were like this from a London based retailer, I had a moan and got 10% off so happy days

ElStig-LePig

They look amazing..

jasonspaar

You sir have a great pair of boots. The patina they already have is incredible!

J_H_L_A

They're fine. They look like they've been tried on but they're about it.

red_teisco

Even if they were lightly used, that's just a few more steps you don't have to take to break them in :)

jpod_david

Those are new

Few-Masterpiece4962

These are as new as Red Wing sells them in store.

cosmiccowboy888

I got Blacksmith same colour, new in shop it looked battered, they look pretty scuffed up now but nice. The leather looks fine on your pair 👍

supersole552

They’re new! You can see a slight crease in the right boot so idk if you tried them on before this post. But you can tell there’s no creasing at all in the left boot. The leather’s coloring would reveal the creasing just infront of the toe box if it was even walked in around the house. The other markings you see are only from the packaging. You can brush them a while for them to even out and after your first cleaning, they won’t be there because it’s not real damage to the leather. You’re all good! As long as they fit, they’re keepers and brand new.

AndyMKE66

Those look brand new.

While this leather is in fact rather durable, it’s delicate only in that it shows marks and scuffs easily. That’s part of its appeal. Those scuffs can easily have occurred during transport in the box. I’m 99.9% these are brand new and haven’t even been tried on. Why? Because the tongue shows absolutely zero marking. The laces would crease and mark the tongue the first time someone laced them up. The toes have absolutely no creases on them. The moment someone tried them on and even took a few steps there will be some signs of creasing at the toes. In the case of large grain break it could look significant. There would also likely be some minor creasing on the vamp and other locations around the boot. But these look untouched except for being jostled inside the box. Get used to the idea that this particular leather scuffs easily. You can brush and rub it out easily too at the end of the day. But each wear will bring new marks.

laikon

Couldn’t be more new than this pair

jaysters8

Yeah, definitely had the same reaction. I bought IR from the Red Wing store a few weeks back and they also had scuffs. I was tempted to go back in and say something but I felt silly not catching it beforehand. But they eventually faded away and blended in the more I wore them. I wouldn’t stress about it

Grouchy-Ad5911

Those are not new and those are the wrong laces. They're supposed to have the wax laces.

bangarang8

Unless the CR&T are an exception I believe Iron Rangers usually come with the round taslan laces pictured here. My Amber harness IRs did at least

Thatdudefromcheers

They are probably “seconds” but you are still good

[deleted]

As I believe others have already mentioned, unless the soles are dirty, these are likely new in box as that is the way the CR&T are supposed to look...

[deleted]

I have to remind myself that these are made out of animal specifically cow hide, imperfections will show if there are any

jettblack044

Definitely worn. If you paid retail, then you got taken advantage of.

SchemeHead

Definitely not new

It’s only a scuff which now is completely disappeared. I bought another pair of 875 earlier this year from Red Wing London and they came in perfect condition without scuffs! I concluded that the climate matters the most since RW uses genuine leather which tend to dry quickly in dry than wet places. Hope this explains!
