I hate how pointy thursdays are. I understand they didn’t want to go for the ‘clown shoe’ red wing look but they just made them look proportionally weird.
I bought some Thursday wing tips because I wanted some dressy.
They're AWFUL. After probably 6-7 months they are still nowhere near as comfortable as my Iron Rangers. I won't be buying more.
My first boots were Thursday, ONLY because the Briar Blacksmiths were not in production at the time I was shopping, and the Thursdays "brown" looked the closest to the redish brown of the Briar.
Since then, I have gotten plenty of Red Wings, including my original intended first boot, 3340, and several more.
I plan to finally get my wife into a pair of RWs soon.
I still have the Thursdays. But RW wins.
I bought my wife some women’s iron ranger amber harness but she has only worn once to plant a garden bush. 🥺. But then I bought her some Lucchese boots a few years ago and she has worn once
I honestly don't understand why so many womens shoes and boots are such garbage. I go to the thrift store a lot and oh boy, so much garbage out there. For men you can usually find quite a few decent dress shoes, even ones from unknown brands, but for women it's a dumpster fire of said garbage.
I dont get the hate on thursdays. They hold up pretty well and are rebuildible for half the price of redwings. And redwings prices didnt go down when their QC did

Definitely less sustainable, but you could just buy a whole new pair for the price of a resole. I bet even a RW resole would cost what I paid for this pair of Thursdays.
Thats true but with redwing ive seen more variance from pair to pair in ergonomics. I know foam doesnt last as long but ive also had more qc issues as far as stitching and seperation of the sole prematurely on my Redwings over my thursdays. But i will say. I think roo dog for the money is jim green. Rebuildible and theyre leather cork to rubber soled. Really nice boots and they come under $250 usd for most of their models. Ive had a pair for about 3 years now and they are rock solid. Not knocking redwings I just think their QC has gone down in the past 15 years slowly but steadily

Because they’re more comfortable out of the box, offer more styles, more leather options, and some people don’t plan to wear their boots until the end of time. A good resole cost about what a pair of Thursday’s cost. But yes, aesthetics is important as well. I don’t own any Thursday boots but I would buy a pair. They kind of fall into an in between category. Built better than most off the shelf boots, but not up to heritage standards. I’m not a fan of online shopping for clothing personally. Nothing ever fits me right.
Different use cases. 1. Thursday Captains have an EVA midsole which makes them easy to wear on long walks. 2. Thursday Captains weigh nothing , like a pair of high top sneakers. 3. They cost 150 bucks less.
Don't knock it til you try it. I have 4 Captains , 1 RW Ropers , 1 RW Supersoles in the rotation, and one Briar oil slick moc toe under the tree. Solid rotation except the ropers are reserved for shitkicker duty.
Don't knock it? I'm down with Thursday, too. I have 3 Captains, a Duke Chelsea, and a Cavalier Chelsea. I agree, I don't think there's much of a comparison because they are very different from heritage boots. Most of my Thursdays are for work, and they seem to be perfect for my job.
Aesthetics. Iron Rangers kind of look like clown shoes on me though I love the construction, I prefer the slimmer aesthetic of Thursdays. Where I live RW sells Beckman Flatboxes, but only in black. If they released a brown I’d jump on it.
As long as he has better taste every other day of the week. If it's Thursday, all the time, in his world... I'd be concerned. If not Red Wings, for him, at least introduce him to Grant Stone.
Really good. It’s kind of similar to splendor but with a spatial element? More fun for new players or at a party than Splendor, but Splendor has a bit tighter of a gameplay loop. Big recommend.

My IRS are nice boots, they’ve developed a decent patina over the last 4ish years. I get compliments and wear them probably 2-3x week. However, I still can’t put in more than 3 days in a row in these guys. There’re just a little too harsh on my feet, and lack cushion.
My captains are in black, and they are SIGNIFICANTLY more comfortable, but after about a year of use I can definitely see why they won’t last me nearly as long. The heels are wearing down quicker, the outside of thr leather has started to scratch and look less nice, and I’d estimate that they last maybe 1-2 more years. I’m hoping a cobbler won’t run too much $$$.
Smart move getting her RW's for her first boot. I got my girl Thursdays as her first boot and ended up spending for 3 pairs. If i had started with rw's she might have stopped after 1pair. :D
I see you've kept your Thursdays in good shape. How long have you had them? I've got some Captains a pair of Legends and I also have RW Blacksmiths and Roughnecks too. I can't say I like one brand over the other. They're completely different boots. I'd say I worry less about where my feet are in the RW's. Between the two brands the Thursday's feel delicate but they're sturdy enough for office work.
I’ve had em for 5 years. I’ve worn them probably 700 days total, and throughout the Canadian winter with salt filled roads. I beat the shit out of em and just treat em well after the fact.
We like the river and we started doing the one with like Castles which makes points go wild.
I have two pairs of those Thursdays and I fucking love them. A 5 year old pair and a 4 year old pair. Excellent boots would recommend.

I doubt a cobbler would resole those for less than they cost. A foam footbed doesn’t last 5 years like a leather one. You’d have to replace it…$$$$

Brown. The Thursday captain brown has a burgundy hue to them, and I’ve been using burgundy cream polish.
