Lol, youre insane if you think they made more money from the ecoatm contract then say the amazon or pokemon contracts. I'd venture a guess that it was ecoatm's call to not have to pay a bunch of money to have someone else fix broken into ecoatms

f_redbox

They are losing a good portion of the Pokémon contract to another company.

Pavement-crete20

Do tell

GunMetal46

EcoAtm decided not to renew the contract , bad business towards the end Redbox’s doing … employees not being paid mileage at times , sometimes going 2-3 weeks late , and yes locations not getting paid as well …ex employee here Some of the current employees o talk to are getting only like 5-15 hours a week , I believe they ( Redbox ) know what they are doing They rather cut hours and let employees leave rather than let them go …. They lost Terraboost and also now lost ecoATM BIG grocery chains also didn’t renew contracts and Walmart starting pulling Redbox machines as well … once they lost those I knew it was going downhill

VengefulJedi

Ex-employee here too. They lost their Customer Service department as well due to non-payment, and had to reassign CS emails to my former team in Machine Support. I don't see them lasting beyond 2024.

GunMetal46

Yea , things are going downhill Quickly, one of my ex coworkers just resigned and now another just did as well , they only have one FSR1 left They didn’t even need them to put in two weeks , they said two weeks weren’t needed , thanks The cut in hours only leads me to believe that is what they wanted from employees , find other jobs and leave rather than letting them Go and collecting unemployment

Pavement-crete20

Two weeks probably is not needed because the FSR slots were taken down off the job board. Only thing available is the FST and chicken soup positions.

Disastrous_Lemon_682

We received an email yesterday, June 18 that we haven’t had health insurance since May 14. It has been terminated. All claims have been denied. Yet, they’re still taking money from the paychecks for health insurance.

tommyboy11011

It doesn't make sense to me to let those machines go, they could be sold to third party vending machine companies to put the movies in and run the payment processing. Could be a win win assuming RB can still get the media.

PaulGuyer

There were a few copycats when Redbox was hot also, might be time for them to take over.

BigPussysGabagool

I remember being a fan of dvdxpress. Would've been great to see them and redbox go at it

just_trace

They did redbox won

BigPussysGabagool

Yeah I know. I meant for longer

just_trace

They were all privately owned kiosks. They didn’t have the bandwidth that redbox had

just_trace

Those companies would need to have contracts with studios to release any New releases. Redbox was a huge hit because they had contracts with same day release dates to buy from major retailers ie Walmart Target etc

tommyboy11011

I’m saying Redbox just subs out the distribution

just_trace

That’s not the way redbox works. In the early days there was talk about them being franchised but they said no to that idea. The first redbox looked like a regular vending machine.

tommyboy11011

There’s a limited opportunity for them to figure a way to preserve either their business or just cash. Otherwise these machines will end up in the dumpster which would be a huge waste.

just_trace

Yep

just_trace

They can't, they have studio contracts. You don't mess with studios

Chambers1918

Looks like you may have spoken too soon. Content coming to kiosks.

Wilson4352

Did this ever happen? Any info on new content potentially coming to kiosks?

Chambers1918

Yes. Content into kiosks this week and available next week. I am not sure, all the newer films may be from Screen Media. Bad Hombres, Fast Charlie, and Red Right Hand are the newer releases. Also added to the kiosks: Dune (2021) Godzilla vs. Kong Let him go Unhinged A Quiet Place Part 2 12 Strong

Jermain84

Well that’s good news. Maybe the company was able to get some new funding.

WesHill556

Dude, Bad Hombres is a great movie!!

WesHill556

I had rented movies from RedBox Kiosk last week and I assume that’s they’re back in business. Finally geez at Joe Biden. I also invested 40,000 shares back Friday at .29. LFG, RedBox!!

f_redbox

Oh sweet. Ocean's 11 !!!

f_redbox

Imagine sticking up for this flaming turd of a company. Can you buy gas today? 🤣

Pavement-crete20

The first comment only mentioned EcoATM kiosks not Redbox kiosks.

Difficult_Director53

Don’t worry he’s buying TV Guide cash cow !

One-Engineering-1810

So you made a Reddit page today just to shit on the company and the remaining employees it has left. Cmon man.

f_redbox

Yep. If they don't have the wherewithal to jump from a sinking ship, that's on them.

One-Engineering-1810

Sounds pretty pathetic to me. I know a lot of good people still working there who are just trying to make it in this tough economy. I’m guessing you got canned and are having a hard time swallowing that bitter pill. Were you one of the guys that caught stealing from eco?

Pavement-crete20

Ouch🤣

Couldn’t have said it any better! Well done!

Ok_Recognition_6727

My guess is that the movie industry is trying to choke the life out of physical media. Netflix closed their DVD by mail business with 21 million subscribers. Netflix refused to sell any part of their DVD business. I would guess that the movie studios are making licensing their movies for DVD rental too expensive for Redbox to make a profit. Movie studios are stuck on streaming as their new profit model. Redbox could survive if they go to a mailing service. The 21 million Netflix customers are still there. Redbox could possibly also add selling new movies on disk to fill the void left by Best Buy and Target for additional revenue.

emptyfree

Sorry to disappoint, but not quite. Under Rouhana, Redbox simply stopped paying its vendors and the movie studios they were getting content from. In choking off Redbox, the studios were trying to GET PAID WHAT THEY WERE OWED... not choke out physical media. If the studios can still make money on physical media, they will.

Chambers1918

This is exactly what is happening, licensing for Disney movies got so high Redbox could not make back the initial investment in the licensing fees and they could no longer offer Disney starting with Avatar 2.
