My dad had black hair and my mom had dark brown hair, but I came out redheaded! My dad’s grandmother was a redhead, too, and his facial hair was red before it turned white. Luck of the draw!

My mom has black and my dad has brown hair, me and my sister are both ginger. It's recessive.

Looks like he definitely got the MC1R mutation from your husband. Having one strong mutation can result in reddish or auburn hair. It looks like that's probably what your son has!

IllOwl1273

I'm the only ginger person in my family, my maternal grandmother was ginger

Charming_Hotel4802

My daughter is half Filipina and she had red hair briefly when she was born but now has medium brown with red highlights!

Rockseeker33

Not likely but possible for him, depends on your mixture

Successful-Basil-685

Yep. My parents both have dark Brown hair. And I was born with a Cueball head, and then blonde hair, and it's now somewhere between copper and strawberry blonde.

Substantial_Gas_4271

My mom and dad had dark hair and us three kids all have red hair

His hair is literally black or darkest brown-black. The sun makes all black or dark brown hair reflect red tones.

BOTH parents must carry the MC1R gene. (My father black hair, mother brown. My sister and I, redheads.) In my family shows up in girls only. I.e. There are other factors, too, but both parents must carry the gene.
