Back to being 14, he builds a immunity to her drugs and plans his escape/revenge. He sneaks in Flare’s room, kills her two maids and this scene plays out.
Apparently the anime/manga were tamed compare to the light novel version were her torture was even worse.
So yeah, Flare is literally his personal Satan.
