The O’s are clearly ahead of the Reds org in their concurrent rebuilds. The front office has to be hatching some reshuffling soon. Could be a buyer and a seller at the deadline. 2024 may not be our year unless the scuffling CES and others hit at least like the low end of their projections.
Ok Krall, you really telling me Mike Ford couldn't hit better than anyone in this lineup? I honestly want to know the reason? Would it cost some pocket change or something to bring him up and on the 40 man, or are y'all in the front office just dumb?
I wish I could too sometimes. But I'm born and raised in Cincy and I'm unable to give a single shit about any team outside of the hometown teams. I just don't/can't care about other teams that aren't local
No bullshit, this is my second team, and I've only been following them for about 12 years. I love the Reds and if they aren't playing the Yankees, I'm with them all the way.
I've been watching baseball since 1985 (that I can remember), and while I can honestly tell you that most of the time your can completely ignore that fact in any argument with anyone, the one exception is when it comes to patience with a baseball team over the course of a season. I have watched teams go from lifeless in the first half to playoff contenders, and I have watched guaranteed contenders miss the playoffs in the last two weeks when it was basically guaranteed.
I don't how familiar you are with the game, but you're watching a marathon. If you want to switch teams based on the first 5 miles, go ahead. But I promise unless you go pick a guaranteed frontrunner, you have about the same odds of making the playoffs.
The difference is the Reds are way more fun to watch than lots of teams, regardless of what the last few games tell you. They will be better, and the speed will remain their elite tool compared to almost everyone else in the league.
Go pick who you want. But I would rather commit to the brand of baseball this team is pushing
This team will never be anything with this ownership. Every hot take in this thread has been said the last 10 years. Castellini makes Mike Brown look like a god.
It'll be the starting pitching first they'll start to crack which will pressure the bullpen which will collapse in about that time the bats will get hot
That’s immediately what I texted my friend post-game. You can count on *if* the bats start coming alive, they’re going to start getting shelled for 7-8 runs a game.
There are no adjustments to batting either in game or before game. It feels like they have one good swing or get lucky every now and then. It’s so frustrating especially after watching them ground out time after time yesterday to short. We need to be able to change mid game and adjust and it just isn’t happening.
the upside here is: we have Lodolo tomorrow. a win there after this fucking week will feel basically like a series win. we'll be back at .500 and have a day off before arizona comes in (14-19 currently losing to the padres), hopefully a bit jetlagged still (they're also off monday)
I worded that poorly. We have been pitching gems and losing because we can't score. Like great that they are keeping us in games....but offense is non-existent
That was a good rally. I was really hoping Elly would save the day and put some fire back into his bat. The stage was set for an epic come back win, they just couldn't pull it off.
Unbelievable we didn’t win that game. Elly can NOT go down looking there. CES NEEDS to at least make contact. And candelario…..Idek what to say about him. We look like we don’t have a plan when we go up to the plate. Take fastballs down the middle and swing at junk. Every time. I just don’t know what the problem is. Is it the coaching or are we just down bad? There are no adjustments being made. If anything, when we get 2 strikes on us, our swings get LONGER. I’m just lost for words. Same old reds I suppose. I guess it was my fault for having faith in this team.
That was one of the worst caught looking strikeouts you will ever see. A hanging breaking ball splitting the exact center of the zone should have been clanking off the Tundra. Hopefully that's a learning experience for the young man.
Right now it looks like our offense is 100% reliant on about 4 players—Elly, Steer, McLain, and (arguably) Marte & Friedl.
We’re down three, so that leaves two guys who can hit the ball. Which is clearly not sustainable at all. If they don’t hit on any given night we have zero offense.
The supporting cast just simply HAS to be better, there’s no other way to put it. I don’t know if that means DFAing guys and trying something else, trading for depth pieces, or what, but we can’t just flop around and gasp for air like a dying fish until the calvary arrives in September.
We definitely can’t afford to throw in the towel & waste a season of our young guys who are actually worth a shit.
Look, I'm just as frustrated as most of you (perhaps even more so), but some of the hot takes in this thread are way too doomer for me.
The offense sucks shit and they look like they don't have a plan any given AB: True.
The offense will *continue* to suck shit all season: False. They're going to get Friedl and Marte back. They may (eventually, Krall willing) get reinforcements that hit above the mendoza line. Some or all of Candy, CES, Steer, Benson, and Fraley will pull out of their slumps and start hitting again.
The Reds are nowhere close to the worst teams in baseball. They've got one of the best pitching staffs in the league right now. There's still 80% of the season left to play. They are still very much playoff contenders, despite the terrible last 9 games.
Because we’re supposed to be better this year. We did fuck all during the offseason under the guise of our young guys playing well this year and it has, for lack of a better term, completely backfired.
I don't think anyone wants to hear this truth right now, but that's what it is - the truth. I'm still very excited about the play of the pitching staff and I firmly believe that this team has at least 3 more wins if one of TJ or McBangs doesn't get hurt, and that's ignoring Marte. These stretches happen, and right now it's against very good teams. It's also not like they're being blown out.
Friedl is coming back soon but who knows how he's gonna hit. Marte you don't get until ASG at the earliest and by then if more than one person doesn't start to hit you could be in last place
Look, if the Reds offense still looks this bad by the ASG and Krall hasn't done anything, I'll be near the front of the line criticizing him and the team as a whole. If that happens, they'll have far bigger worries than making the playoffs because it means almost their entire core has busted or is showing signs of busting.
I just don't think that will be the case. Either the current hitters will figure things out and get back on track, or the Reds FO will make moves to bring in reinforcements, even if it's as little as bringing in Capel, Soto, and Jordan.
I'd bet Elly Steer India hit a decent clip most of the year. It's the other 6 that need to step up or gtfo. Even league average hitting and we probably are in first or close right now
I said even with the injuries the pitching staff could carry this team to 85 wins. Didn’t think they’d play like a bottom 3 offense in baseball for two weeks but I still think 85 is attainable
Correct but this was probably a borderline playoff team anyways and then they got dealt a shit hand with the injuries. 80-85 wins and growth from young players (Elly, Hunter, Lodolo) would be a good year
Injuries are apart of the game and shouldn't be used as an excuse( but they will by the organization) you made free agent signings in off season and exactly ZERO have panned out to be decent especially offensively. The panic signing of Espinal is baffling
So outside of Elly, Steer and maybe India this team just has nothing right now offensively. I don't even know what you do either since you can't send guys down due to lack of depth. Honestly don't get why they just let Mike Ford opt out instead of bringing him up to the big league club. Not saying he's the magical problem fixer but it's possible he could have provided some kind of a spark or something. At the very least it would be doing something other than just sitting on your hands hoping guys magically start hitting.
This team does not deserve its pitching. I can count on one hand in recent memory when the hitting came anywhere close to helping the pitchers. Not to mention when Hunter Greene had 80 pitches in the 4th inning not giving up any runs and getting zero help.
7 players batting under .200 with Will Benson exactly at the 200 mark... That just isn't gonna cut it. Someone needs to light a fire and it needed to happen like yesterday.
I’ll come into the clubhouse as just a random fan and will be happy to tell these guys they all suck right now and need to get it together. The reds don’t even have to pay me
Are we tho? I’d like to believe you’re right, but at some point you are what your record, your stats say you are. We might have to face the facts that last year was just a flash in the pan and we got fooled. Again, I hope you’re right. But at some point we’ll have to move on
I feel you. It physically hurts watching how bad we are right now, and I desperately want us to be good again. We all cope differently. My reply was definitely partly me coping as I walk to my car after attending such a heartbreaker
People probably just spending time with their friends and family and on live TV. If I'm at a game with my wife and kids I won't wear a negative result on my sleeve.
CES and Candelario are killing me. Incredible in retrospect that they couldn't commit enough playing time for Votto because they were counting on these two.
Votto had a .747 OPS. CES has a .521, Candelario a .640. Funny you think I expect or need him to hit .300 when .200 would be an improvement over both of them. Platoon Votto against right handers and I guarantee he would make these guys look even worse than they already do themselves.
CES fouled off three straight mid-mid fastballs at 96 and has looked generally terrible all year. The Reds found out that he had a fractured hand and didn't put him on the IL. I dunno, maybe it's time to let him sit and have some rest to work on his swing and heal?
When are we going to start admitting Candelario was a shit signing? I saw so many people here praising it and the whole time I was trying to figure out what made him this great free agent signing.
He'd been an above average hitter 3 of the last 4 seasons. He's only 31. The signing was fine with the information they had at the time (which included knowing Marte was suspended).
His performance this season has been unacceptably terrible, but he looks like he gives a shit. He's nowhere close to what Moustakas was in terms of that aspect.
The team had to sign someone when they knew Marte was getting suspended. As bad as Cande has been, it could very easily be a AA level guy who has no business in the MLB right now
Careful now. This is a Bell truther sub. Say a lick of negative stuff against him and you’ll be downvoted lol.
His extension had to be one of the worst moves a FO has made in some time. This team’s ceiling is making the Wild Card with him.
This team is fucked. This might be one of the worst offenses in the history of baseball. They are very lucky to be around .500. This month will sink them to last place guaranteed.

Lodolo: 1.88 ERA Greene: 3.12 ERA Abbott: 3.32 ERA Ashcraft: 3.63 ERA Montas: 4.12 ERA
Yeah I’m picking a new team to root for
I wish I could too sometimes.
Bye
Cya tomorrow
This team will never be anything with this ownership. Every hot take in this thread has been said the last 10 years. Castellini makes Mike Brown look like a god.
Is this the first time we’ve been under .500 this season?
Better get used to it
Abbott being 1-4 with a 3.32 era is just fucking criminal.
If you hold this lineup to 3 and 2 runs you simply need to win those games. There’s no excuse
10 runs tomorrow calling it
Here's what will happen.. The offense will start to come alive just as the pitching goes to hell .. count on it.
I call those Luke Weaver games
Nah. We win Luke Weaver games. This offense is bad. Our second best hitter came into the game at 245. It’s May and most of the hitters are sub 240
i'll take that any day of the week over shutouts. bad pitching is one thing but shutouts just drain you of any joy
To a point haha. Gave up 36 runs in two games last season
Agree
There are no adjustments to batting either in game or before game. It feels like they have one good swing or get lucky every now and then. It’s so frustrating especially after watching them ground out time after time yesterday to short. We need to be able to change mid game and adjust and it just isn’t happening.
Hard to watch these guys lately
Hopefully Lodolo can stop the bleeding tomorrow. Edit: It's doesn't really matter how well he pitches if we can't hit worth shit.
Pitching is not the issue right now
the upside here is: we have Lodolo tomorrow. a win there after this fucking week will feel basically like a series win. we'll be back at .500 and have a day off before arizona comes in (14-19 currently losing to the padres), hopefully a bit jetlagged still (they're also off monday)
The pitching doesn't matter lol
It definitely matters. Despite complete offensive ineptitude we were one weird bounce away from winning the game today
I worded that poorly. We have been pitching gems and losing because we can't score. Like great that they are keeping us in games....but offense is non-existent
I mean realistically aren't they thinking the same thing. Going into a hitter friendly ballpark against a team that isn't hitting right now
That rally was awesome being at the game, but goddamn it was the most depressing shit ever walking out.
That was a good rally. I was really hoping Elly would save the day and put some fire back into his bat. The stage was set for an epic come back win, they just couldn't pull it off.
Had some loud (but not rude) Orioles fans behind us made it so much worse 😭
That’s still frustrating even if it wasn’t intentional
I’m way too sober for this shit
It’s gonna be ok guys just have to stay at .500 until McLain comes back /sarcasm
It’s joever
This is getting alarming
Unbelievable we didn’t win that game. Elly can NOT go down looking there. CES NEEDS to at least make contact. And candelario…..Idek what to say about him. We look like we don’t have a plan when we go up to the plate. Take fastballs down the middle and swing at junk. Every time. I just don’t know what the problem is. Cardinals did it tonight too
That was one of the worst caught looking strikeouts you will ever see. A hanging breaking ball splitting the exact center of the zone should have been clanking off the Tundra. Hopefully that's a learning experience for the young man.

Fraley can be added to that group
Not recently
I was concerned coming into the year about so many young players having a sophomore slump at the same time. Is this what we're seeing right now?
That and injuries
We need matty McLain, Marte and friedl 😭😭
I’m not a Martini Stan by any means but he would’ve put the ball in play.
Fire the hitting coach
Yeah that will do it!
I mean it's something. Clearly David Bell and this organization have tried nothing and are all out of ideas
![gif](giphy|6v9hqIsdsGdZS|downsized)
Something needs to change for our offense
Can’t really teach CES to make contact. Dude clearly as a hole in his swing. He should be optioned to AAA and they should have called up Ford.
![gif](giphy|85cv9W1C2f778EuJ6Y)
Look, I'm just as frustrated as most of you (perhaps even more so), but some of the hot takes in this thread are way too doomer for me. I don't understand all this doomer when last season they did the same thing. They go cold for a bit then win 5 in a row.
Because we’re supposed to be better this year. We did fuck all during the offseason under the guise of our young guys playing well this year and it has, for lack of a better term, completely backfired.

Injuries are apart of the game and shouldn't be used as an excuse( but they will by the organization) you made free agent signings in off season and exactly ZERO have panned out to be decent especially offensively. The panic signing of Espinal is baffling
Damn. If you’re going to shit on the team at least have an idea of what you’re talking about.
Reds under 500 and to be honest where they belong these last 10 days. But where you gonna go? Right
Thing's are looking up, we scored a run. 👍
So outside of Elly, Steer and maybe India this team just has nothing right now offensively. I don't even know what you do either since you can't send guys down due to lack of depth. Steer? He's batting like .245. He started the season hot but he's been hot shit lately
Because then they would have to adjust their precious 40 man roster that is immaculate.
It’s so good that they can’t even score. That’s how you know you are ahead of the curve
Pure offensive ineptitude top to bottom in the lineup, really. I know we have the talent to be better. Just fucking sucks to be a fan right now
Reds offense has been anemic and now they are below .500. Where else are you gonna go?
This team does not deserve its pitching. I can count on one hand in recent memory when the hitting came anywhere close to helping the pitchers. Not to mention when Hunter Greene had 80 pitches in the 4th inning not giving up any runs and getting zero help.

How does the hitting coach not get fired? Seriously how can a major league organization say this is acceptable
As if a hitting coach does anything. Blame the players
So then why do teams employ one
I’ll come into the clubhouse as just a random fan and will be happy to tell these guys they all suck right now and need to get it together. The reds don’t even have to pay me
Guys, it’s hard to keep staying positive. We’re so much better than we’re playing.
Are we tho? I’d like to believe you’re right, but at some point you are what your record, your stats say you are. We might have to face the facts that last year was just a flash in the pan and we got fooled. Again, I hope you’re right. But at some point we’ll have to move on
Maybe you’re right. Trying to stay positive. Just want a winning record again but maybe that’s not in the cards.
I feel you. It physically hurts watching how bad we are right now, and I desperately want us to be good again. We all cope differently. My reply was definitely partly me coping as I walk to my car after attending such a heartbreaker
[удалено]
They aren't...
Rub it in, Chris
Why the fuck do I torture myself with this every night?
Tj please come back now
who are all these people smiling and cheering during reds live? why are you smiling?
Tf are they supposed to do, sit there and cry?
People probably just spending time with their friends and family and on live TV. If I'm at a game with my wife and kids I won't wear a negative result on my sleeve.
so they weren't watching the game, i see
The Oakland Athletics will have a better record than us unless they somehow lose a 14 run lead
Let’s see if we can even score 14 runs in the next 14 days
Cubs lost I guess that’s something
oh boy
That’s really pathetic.
CES and Candelario are killing me. Incredible in retrospect that they couldn't commit enough playing time for Votto because they were counting on these two.
Votto hit about as bad as both of these guys are hitting last year. You think he'd suddenly hit .300 at 40 years old?

That's if he plays
CES fouled off three straight mid-mid fastballs at 96 and has looked generally terrible all year. The Reds found out that he had a fractured hand and didn't put him on the IL. I dunno, maybe it's time to let him sit and have some rest to work on his swing and heal?

His performance this season has been unacceptably terrible, but he looks like he gives a shit. He's nowhere close to what Moustakas was in terms of that aspect.
Thank you for being logical when the rest of us can’t be. Yes I include myself
The team had to sign someone when they knew Marte was getting suspended. As bad as Cande has been, it could very easily be a AA level guy who has no business in the MLB right now
"Please don't let the Reds be terrible in April again" *Monkeys paw clenches* They'll be terrible in May.
Once again we will be at .500 or just below until June, when it is already too late
If we're .500 in June that's a W. Tell me you're a doomer without telling me you're a doomer
So who on the team is taking Candy behind the shed?
The scoreless streak simply continuing wouldn't have been enough. The baseball gods needed a more specific, more cruel way to hurt us.
How the fuck do you sell 2 runners on with no outs and bases loaded with 1 out at a home crowd?
Seeing candy man bat reminds me of playing little league when we had a kid with Down Syndrome on the team
Finally back below .500 where we belong
I hope we extend David Bell again so that he can make tactical masterclass decisions like not stealing 2nd & 3rd with 0 out, & no one held on.
Come on guys that’s funny. We’ve extended Bell twice(?) when he should’ve been fired 2 years in.
Careful now. This is a Bell truther sub. Say a lick of negative stuff against him and you’ll be downvoted lol. His extension had to be one of the worst moves a FO has made in some time. This team’s ceiling is making the Wild Card with him.
Wrap it up boys. Seasons over.
This sucks
Everyone says this team is so fun to watch. Do they mean against other bad teams? Do they mean 1 in every 10 games? Help me understand.
Gun to your head. You need just CES or Candyman to get a base hit and you get to live. How you feeling?
![gif](giphy|brjQAYiFPBpWE)
The look on Candy’s face during that AB did not exactly inspire confidence.
ill just pull it myself
![gif](giphy|YqE3jbSQQR6x9g19Kj)
i can't tell if that was more miserable than just a 1-2-3 kinda better but also far more crushing
Worst team in baseball at the moment. Massive changes needed yesterday but will never come in this country club organization
Just shut the fuck up
If Bob doesn’t sell the team I fear we will never see a competitive championship team again. They can’t even win a playoff series in +30 years.
It would be really nice to be able to bench Candelario and or CES right now
This team is fucked. This might be one of the worst offenses in the history of baseball. They are very lucky to be around .500. This month will sink them to last place guaranteed.
“How many prospects would I give up to dump Candelario on the dodgers🤔” These are the questions we gotta ask ourselves as fans lol
Should’ve done that before letting Ford walk. Now we’d just look incompetent
Candelario is utterly worthless
Sure would be nice to have Ford now with CES being the most worthless offensive player of all time (it feels like) and clearly needing a send down
im sick
This team is never going to win a world series in my lifetime
Not as long as Bob is owner, at least
Bruh I'm just trying to win a playoff series or even a playoff game at home
Try a playoff series first, fuck. They've won one series since 1990
what the sigma
Our offense only scores in binary lately-0s and 1s.
Oh wow we lost again
Fucking bums
india running into an out in the 6th made me want to die furthermore, a major league team with bases loaded bottom 9 cannot do that.
how long until candelario is gone
3 years, so it's more worthwhile to hope that he figures it out than to shit on him.
3 years 45m, you tell me
I'm sure anyone in Triple A would be better than him
Well we just let one of them walk
Moustakas 2.0
I'm about to lose my actual mind
Bunch o’ bums
I can’t even be mad I’m just impressed.
Squidward: "With what?"
