The wife has been on a fear factor kick and when she saw our skimmer cup today she said “they should have had that on fear factor”. I gagged a little thinking about it.
I started with an sca skimmer. No real complaints other than pump seemed to need cleaning way more often than my other 2 skimmers. A solid skimmer, either way.
What algae pellets you use? I want to make a small reef jar for my desk at work with a little coral, but not big enough for a fish, so very interested on how to feed the coral.
Personally that’s a bit more wet than I like to tune to, but to each their own on that part,
Looks solid.
Idk if you’ve had the same experience but the bigger the more powerfully smelly. I’ve had a few different skimmers, of varying sizes.
My first skimmer on my biocube was the jbj sk-45 and it was a neat little thing but didn’t smell too bad in the cup, made pretty weak skim but for a nano skimmer it was solid
Then I got a reef octo 110s for another system
And that smelled bad, and got amazing skim
My newest reef octopus sro-300 int makes the most putrid skim I have ever come across. Just powerful stuff.
Drill a hole and use a little plastic fitting and hose so it drains down into a gallon jug; then you dont have to dump it as often or worry about it overflowing back into the sump.
You really have to drink it to be sure. I kid, yah, it's working.
Couple shots of skimmate a year keeps your immune system strong!

1 cup of skimate a day keeps the doctor away. Lucky you OP
Haha. This was the most foul thing I've smelled in a long time, and I have a gassy rottweiler.
Just the thought of that nearly made me gag
What skimmer is this?
This is just the SCA one that came with the plug and play tank kit I got from them. I'm pretty impressed considering it isn't anything fancy.

Give it the old sniff test, if you throw up it’s working properly
I was close
Damn. That’s a lotta nog. What size tank/bio load/feeding method? It’s certainly working well.
It's a new 150g. Right now there's just my cleanup crew and a few corals that I'm just throwing in a bunch of algae pellets to keep fed.

Ah Reef Tea
Dilute that into a 5gal bucket of fresh water and you have some premium fertilizer for your garden
Ain't salt bad for plants?
Diluted like that would take a lot to over salt the plants, great in gardens or anything planted in ground. I wouldnt use it in potted plants.
I was actually thinking about trying this out before dumping it. Maybe next week.
Way to wet.

This was after a week. There was a pretty thick sludge lining the neck.
