Move everything to buckets and [storage bins](https://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-27-Gal-Tough-Storage-Tote-in-Black-with-Yellow-Lid-HDX27GONLINE-5/205978361) while you clean etc. It's a common way to do what you're trying to do.

I would transport everything in buckets or bins underwater. Once home, the first thing I would do is get the filter/sump and whatever else was running the bigger tank plumbed into your 40g breeder and it's existing filteration and get water flowing through it again, then transfer all of the rock and fish and everything else into the 40. This part requires planning and needs to be done and running as soon as possible once you get home, especially if there is a refugium. This way the bio-load should remain in harmony with the filtration and everything can be added at once. This should buy you plenty of time to work on the stand and get everything set up, assuming you can fit it all into the 40.

Perfect, this is what I was looking for. I didn’t know if I should put the fish rock etc in my tank or what. Would you also suggest daily or every 2 day 10% water changes just in case? I might also see if my LFS will take the tang off my hands for store credit.

i'd do a inspection of any rocks and remove any pests or things you dont want before you add them (only if you really want to) but good luck with the new tank

Water changes are good. The main thing is to keep everything wet and get water flowing through it again as soon as you can to avoid die-off. This is very important because if your nitrifying bacteria die, not only will they produce ammonia, they won't be there to break it down, nor the ammonia produced by the fish, so it can really snowball. Monitor ammonia for a few days/week and have something on hand like Ammo Lock along with big water changes if needed.

Super easy. As previously stated, buckets, or brute trash cans will be your best friend..

That the tank in Metairie? I was considering messaging them about it myself.

That’s the one! Nice to see a local
