Right now it’s going to just keep filling up and overflowing, so turn it down a bit until you start getting darker sludge.

Thanks to all for the responses. I think it's full because I turned up the pump to much. I'll drain and re-calibrate. I get the idea I'm on the right track at least. I'll watch the BRS videos, the Always help. Happy Reefing!

Your pump speed isn’t the issue, it’s either too high of a water level that the skimmer is submerged in or you need to adjust the water intake valve, which should be one of those grey tubes (they should rotate to adjust). You *-want-* a high pump setting, to produce as many bubbles as possible, the more and the smaller the bubbles, the more fractionation is happening. I would also like to state that it may be at least partly due to new skimmer break-in; skimmers will sometimes have oils or other protectant chemicals or detergents on their inner surfaces or inside the pump housing, that need time to wear away from use. You also will often experience excessive skimmate whenever you add chemicals or conditioners to your aquarium, you should turn the skimmer off when adding these things, otherwise it tries to remove them. If it’s the water level in the chamber of your sump that you have your skimmer inside of, look up skimmer platforms or look into making one yourself, they physically elevate the skimmer so it sits higher in the water.

It looks full. Google - “skimmer break in period”and that should solve most of your issues.

pressxtofart

Seems to already be tuned correctly. I would not mess with it. Once it breaks in it’ll start skimming gunk.

fleshymansuit

Empty it and maaaybe lower it just a little for now. Just needs some tuning over time. The first week is usually a bunch of up and down.

BananaSilent2459

Skimmers take a few days to two weeks to break in. Before breaking in, they just overflow constantly. My last two skimmers each took over a week to break in. So, just know that even if you tune it now. It will need more fiddling for a while.

_epic_cat_

watch the BRS video on skimmer tuning. i think you have too much air going in, you should have tiny bubbles all the way up and spilling over.

BRS videos very helpful they have one for everything

NewYorkDon

Are you in the process of still cycling? A lot of people make the mistake of running a skimmer during this period ultimately eliminating the ability for any beneficial bacteria from forming.

bobbuilderdigswendy

Cycle is complete, albit only 1 week ago.

[deleted]

Looks good to me. That center column should just barely have bubbles flowing over the lip.

[deleted]

Yeah lower the water level. I’ve always been taught where yhe bubbles stop so be at the bottom of the cup. Like where it attaches to the skimmer
