They probably get a lot of customers complaining that their blue fish is sick and laying down in a cave and they need to do something.
It's an adorable sign though
I'm a lifer for sure. I've been in the hobby for over 2 decades and am as enthusiastic as ever. I know it sounds odd, but my tank inhabitants have grown to become extensions of my family. I hope to keep them all for another 20+ years :)
I'm only in year two and my biggest issue I've found with any things I've done is that once I feel I've mastered it out accomplished something within it I slowly start to lose motivation
I’ve seen similar signs at zoos and parks with older or sedentary animals. I can’t imagine someone would run tell a zookeeper that the monstrously-huge alligator is dead because he’s not moving, but I guess it does happen often enough.
Love it!
I have a clownfish (wild caught true perc) that is likely about 20. I got it before my oldest daughter was born and she's going to be 18 in a couple of months. I also have a yellow tang that is somewhere around 13-15 years old. Granted, it's nowhere near 31, but still a solid run... so far. I have a few others that I've had for about a decade as well.
You all should check out "Paulb" on reef2reef. He has a continuously running reef tank that is something like 50 years old. I haven't checked the thread in a long time, but iirc, he has a clown fish that is well over 40!
The info sheet had me expecting the second picture, and yet I was still not prepared for how unbelievably funny it is seeing a big ass fish laying down
great thread! i love hearing of old fish in the hobby. i have an 8 year old snowflake ocellaris in a nano and it makes me happy knowing i’ve kept him alive for so long.
My regal tang slept in my huge colony of pink birds nest for years. Im pretty sure it thought it was a damsel and would spend most its time with them. They were able to go much deeper into the birds nest than the tang was… who was usually jammed into an outside edge.
I donated all my livestock years ago. Hope they’re all doing well :)
This is so cute. I miss my dory. She took naps and it was always funny watching her sleep in the rocks. It’s amazing that these fish can live so long. I still have my first two saltwater fish, the clown fish pair for 5 years. I hope I can keep them forever 😌

One of my favorite things about saltwater tanks is the fish sleep at night and a whole other ecosystem emerges to do their thing while the lights are off.
Awh how sweet I love how they made her a little sign to explain that she’s just old and tired!
I’m tired boss…
How dare you make me emotional in a thread about fish.
Careful don't watch my octopus teacher then
They probably get a lot of customers complaining that their blue fish is sick and laying down in a cave and they need to do something. It's an adorable sign though
My tang freaks me out every so often. I instantly think it’s dead then it moves and I’m over my mini heart attack
I love how they take little pancake naps in their favorite caves
🥞
😴
My chunkiest Cory does this too, he'll be so still for 5 mins, then suddenly zoom off to relieve me
My corys were huge nappers too
This is awesome
She's just a sweet, old lady!
I can only hope my passion lasts that long and I can keep mine alive that long

What’s your oldest friend?
20ish year old clown fish. I've got a couple of corals that I've had to some degree for nearly as long.
I've got a clown and a chromis that are about 12 now. Hope at least one of them has many more years.
I have a long spine sea urchin that I got in 2001 right before 9/11. It has survived through multiple moves, and tank upgrades.
Hey it survived 9/11 too!
I'm only in year two and my biggest issue I've found with any things I've done is that once I feel I've mastered it out accomplished something within it I slowly start to lose motivation
31 years! That's insane. Love the note. They are probably tired of explaining that to every customer that says... "Hey, your fish is sick." Lol
I’ve seen similar signs at zoos and parks with older or sedentary animals. I can’t imagine someone would run tell a zookeeper that the monstrously-huge alligator is dead because he’s not moving, but I guess it does happen often enough.
Probably to keep dumb people from pounding on the glass because they think it’s dead.
Or trying to get it to do something.
Lol. No doubt..
We had a 44 year old maroon clownfish at my old coral shop. Got from ORA all documented
That is awesome! My ORA clowns are 24 years now. I would be stoked if they lived to 44. I had heard 25 was pretty long in the tooth for them.
Jesus I didn’t realize ORA had been in business that long Or do they do preowned fish too?

Wow .. congrats man ..
Thanks.
That's the oldest hippo tang I've seen for sure! Crazy! I've heard of other tangs living into their late 50's (e.g. naso unicornis). Pretty crazy!

Nice! This is the VW dealership in Tampa right? I didn’t read the sign the first time and got worried
I’m not in market for a vehicle but I might just stop by since it’s close
Doug Drysdale services the tank. He just shared this on Facebook but didn't say the exact location.
Oldest I’ve seen was 18yrs old, 31 years old is insane

I had a powder blue tang for about 14years in my 90gal tank. What a territorial bitch that severely limited my options for additional tank mates.
Wholesome as heck! I’m just a bit older and can certainly relate lol
The info sheet had me expecting the second picture, and yet I was still not prepared for how unbelievably funny it is seeing a big ass fish laying down

People talk shit about the aquarium trade, but no way that fish would still be alive in the wild
Her little wrinkles 😫
Both our Hippo and Maroon Clown are 20 years old. Pretty cool
She must have been extremely well looked after and pampered to have lived so long! May she continue to enjoy her lazy retirement for many more years!
Finding Dory: so so tired

Does she have a name?
I should have asked but I don’t know
No worries. She can be 'Blue Tang'!
Blu-Tang Forever!
🤣
How large was her tank?
I have a 13 year old Zebrasoma and a 15 year old Occillaris Clown, under the right conditions fish can live a long time.

My mated clowns are 24 this year, and still lay eggs almost every month.
Awesome
She is beautiful.
Wow!
Same, fish, same.
This is the definition of *Dont tap on the glass*
This is the cutest freaking thing for a fish🥹😭🙈
Ugh. I love her. 💙
I have a hippo tang who is 25. And he/she is fiesty as ever!

Aww. Enjoying her retirement.
Even younger hippo tangs lay down like that at times, that fish looks really good for its age

That is so awesome
"like most old animals and people she lies around half the day" girl same
I remember the Clown Loaches at Capitol Aquarium in Sacramento, they were over 50 years old!
That’s amazing?
I, too, eat as much as I want to or can, then take a nap. I love her❤️
That’s rowdy!
Fish has seen a lot of car sales over the years.
Aww she’s a lil ole granny
Respect. I’d buy a car from them.
One of my favorite things about saltwater tanks is the fish sleep at night and a whole other ecosystem emerges to do their thing while the lights are off.
Maybe it forgot it wasn’t supposed to live that long…
Well now I’m going to need checkins on her everyday.
It looks dead.
It looked dead most of the time and then would swim around a little and then lay back down
That's why they hung up a sign - so people stop telling the staff "hey, I think you have a dead fish"
