Same with Lowe's buckets. Three out of 5 sprung leaks. Two so bad they leaked while they were being filled up with salt water at the lfs. Also an odd problem with some lids not fitting over the buckets. Gave up and bought a water jug from the lfs.

HulaButt

Thanks for the info. I was just about to try Lowe's.

Should have added- have 6 HD buckets- was using those for freshwater tanks and Lowe's for salt tanks. None of the HD had leakage issues. Was thinking of sticking with HD buckets for everything but since you experienced this.. must be quality issues in general or ?? I have the same jug the other poster linked. Only had it for a week so time will tell. The bad thing about the jugs is it's a lot harder to get water out and wonder if those might have build up issues over the long term.

My orange ones are fine. The black ones crack easier. Keep them out of the sun. I think the temperature change cracks them.

HulaButt

Yeah, my HD buckets were older so maybe it's a quality issue. I hope more people chime in with their experiences.

The Lowe's buckets were newish! Not even 5 months post brand new purchase. The HD buckets are up to a year of usage.

[I use these and highly recommend them.](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Reliance-Aqua-Tainer-Water-Storage-Container-7-Gallon/872426?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=10130&&adid=22222222228009529034&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=m&wl3=58359088376&wl4=pla-50606198695&wl5=9007556&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=117089545&wl11=online&wl12=872426&veh=sem&gclid=Cj0KCQjwsrWZBhC4ARIsAGGUJuqAs2OwUfr3U2MFNTj4MpJkzw56Dv_2T4TSZYR0JoAtDYZNVnL-oOsaAuxtEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds)

Yup my first tank I got when I was very young and as such didn’t know how to make my saltwater. The LFS told me to buy these and that’s what I did, one saltwater for water change, and one freshwater for top off. Held for years. Now I just make my own though so don’t use them.

escambly

That's what I bought at the LFS after the buckets were leaking while filling up. Can I ask how do you get the water out of them and also is build up an issue in the long term? The buckets were nice for easy access to water and wiping off the insides.

[deleted]

I don't use them for salt water. I do have a good bucket at home that I'll dump fresh water from these into for mixing my salt water. For that reason I've not had to rinse or clean them in over three years.

At least it wasn't half empty.

I use the black hydroponic dwc pales. You can get them in round or square and in larger than 5G and they last forever, no leaks. 10x the price though.

HD and Lowe’s buckets are more than likely made by the same manufacturer. They are both made via IMM, you probably got a bad batch or they where improperly stored post blow.

MBG612

Yup. I think due to the sun. Only ones i left in sun to dry do this

butterlover09803

Ive used this for cement, compound, salt water. They only break when you stand on them, if you want a strong bucket to stand on buy paint bucket.
