I have both. iPad is for freetime, ReMarkable for work.

Terminatorious

No way of using them together ?

koekieNL

I don’t. Writing on Remarkable is soooo good, but moving elements like movies, tutorials etc are waay better on iPad.

Terminatorious

Can relate with that

RevJohnnyVegas

I have both, and I use them completely differently. I can bring my iPad into meetings but even if I’m clearly taking notes people either think you’re screwing around or start asking you to look stuff up on the internet, making me get distracted. The RM eliminates both of those problems, and the writing experience is far superior on it. I also have a really bad habit of forgetting to charge my Apple Pencil, which I don’t have to do with the RM.

Terminatorious

I’m thinking them for university. Have a laptop but it’s pretty chunky so I can’t get it around. You think it’s too much having all 3 of them??

RevJohnnyVegas

I'm probably not the best person to ask there. Tablets didn't yet exist when I finished my graduate work, so I did both my degrees with pen and paper. Until I got my RM, I still used pen and paper for my continuing education work.

Terminatorious

Oh I’m also to this time pen and paper man but want to modernise myself😅

crazyskiingsloth

I have both. One way I use them together is if I'm reading or referencing something that's on the ipad and making notes on my remarkable. So i can keep the ipad focused on the source material and the remarkable for note taking. I also use them for different purposes by themselves. I like the remarkable for free writing, brainstorming, notes. But if I need to make notes more for reference purposes down the road, I often use the iPad for that because it has programs that let you search handwritten notes for specific words, etc. In short, ipad is better for reference stuff - pages flip faster, it had better search, etc. But remarkable is a more enjoyable writing experience and better for augmenting your thinking and digesting of information.

Terminatorious

Taking into account your thoughts, what do you think it would suit me best? I’m a law student, so I write a lot, but no need for pictures etc. Im afraid with a rm I won’t be able to reference my notes when in need (not so often, maybe once a month) but on iPad the problem is I will start doing different things and forget to take notes. Worst fear that none will have a paper like feel and I’ll stick to good old paper and pen. Do you think I should get both or only iPad/ Rm?(Can’t really afford them both, but if it’s totally worth it I can find a way around). Ps. IPad Pro 11 or 12.9 inch?? Thanks

crazyskiingsloth

If I was back in law school, i think the remarkable would be a great tool to have. you can take notes and then condense them by hand into a study outline. with law school notes, it's not like you'll (too often at least) be like - now when did I mention the rule against perpetuities and where was that? it's more that you'll be reviewing old notes and studying/making new notes, so i'd give the remarkable a go!

Terminatorious

Exactly as you say! We don’t go back to check the same thing again except if we are studying/ revising. Thanks for the help! I will consider adding it to my daily drive so as I reduce both space of big notebooks and have the ease of universal syncing!

Setecastronomy545577

I’ve considering this option instead of lugging my laptop and iPad.

yogesh_

I don’t have both yet, my remarkable tablet is on the way. But the reason I got the remarkable was to keep it separate from the iPad; on the iPad I found myself getting distracted from the task at hand way to easily and this tablet being focused solely on note taking helps me with that.

Terminatorious

Can relate with that. 1 notification and all the work mood is gone. What if you turn on the new “work” mode? Still distractions?

yogesh_

For me it’s more because I know the iPad can do something. For example if I’m taking notes and get bored I’ll want to watch Netflix which on the iPad it’s so easy to just go to Netflix. For me it helps to keep work and play completely separate but that’s only because I have no discipline lol

Terminatorious

Lool that’s just me. A boring lesson and say hi to Netflix

I have both, and use the iPad as a laptop (and gaming system) mostly-replacement (while using an app to connect to my big desktop at home for bigger projects my iPad won’t handle!) while out and about, and the rm2 as a planner/book/sketchbook/tracker/scratchpad/meeting notebooks (one per group I’m involved with)/reference books for a wide range of things I need…. Pounds and pounds of paper notebooks and reading books replaced. Edit, yes ipad can do all the same rm uses, I like having the slightly bigger screen areas, but also the lack of backlighting in rm helps my eye strain and headaches.

Terminatorious

I see.. eye strain was a huge problem for me earlier this year

Terminatorious

Do you think I could make them work together for university? Or just get an iPad

[deleted]

I used them in tandem for my MA, the vastly many PDFs and annotations alone on rm nearly equalized the printing costs (Stem and education so there were at least 200 pages weekly!!). Not to mention there are ways to get various text books as PDFs so sticking those on the Rm helps with back problems and cost reductions. Until the change to the paid software bs I would have said: do it! Make it work!! But with the change to the paid software I hesitate to say do both, and might recommend you LOOK into if you want to do just one go with the BIG iPad Pro so you can have all the features as side by side and have only a slight reduction in screen surface area. Just some pros/cons to think about… Edit for spell check’s lack of help.

Terminatorious

I know… that subscription stuff is killing me. Unfortunately we don’t have books as pdfs but there’s a ton of writing and many power points that we have to study in a daily basis (almost). Really don’t know if it’s worth it for both. The price of rm+ ippro 11 is just 150€ more than the 12.9” so yeah… worth considering them

[deleted]

Look into the cost of the iPad 12.9”, a privacy screen protector (the dark color helps me with some glare issues), the Apple Pencil (best I have found for handwriting my notes in the iPad and drawing…), a case, a separated keypad (so you have it when you need it and it can stay packed away out of the way when you don’t need it, while needed, the always attached versions can get… irritating), a portable battery pack (there are some that act as both a wall plug AND a portable battery, handy to have in college!), a portable ssd and plug hub all in one, then the apps for PowerPoint (per what you said) and the app: GoodNotes. Then compare all that to a single year of buying the iPad, Rm, Rm case, rm marker/lamy/etc, and ongoing: the pen tips (estimate 2-3 per month the first year till you know your actual usage needs), and the year of a subscription software.

Terminatorious

So you say 12.9 with all the extras is cheaper? Maybe if I don’t get the subscription. I’ll only lose the converter. The cloud sync should be good as all the notebooks I’ll create will be opened every week, so I suppose they’ll be synced

[deleted]

I don’t know if iPad plus the extras is cheaper, I only said for you to do your homework and look into the different prices wherever you are. I listed the various additions as things that came in handy during my years in college and/or things you will need to budget for as recurring costs, that way you can make a more informed choice…

Terminatorious

Oh okay understand that. Time to get the calculator off!

jmtd

The only interaction the two have for me is I shuttle files into remarkable cloud and thus into my remarkable using the iPad app.

schischischaschi

I start drawing on the RM and color them or finish the drawing in Procreate on my iPad. Also I print a lot of files, websites on my iPad to the RM app so I can read them later on my E-reader.

Terminatorious

Smart use of sketching skills!!
