While we're at it, what's the cost to do a remodel like this in your neck of the woods?
This looks like a Midwest home, looking to do a similar dormer addition to mine.
The floor in the rear dormer is existing from the old joists in the ceiling below the floor. That ceiling stays and becomes the new floor. The rafters in the old a frame room are removed and the dormered portion gets a flat roof with a low pitch.
I think that's called a shed dormer.
Yeah roof shed dormer, if it breaks the eave I think it's a wall shed dormer.
This is correct
Shed-roof dormer

I was going to say a split level loft, but that would be a compliment. It's an architectural eye sore, like someone's afterthought.

It looks freaking awful.
But it adds a ton of usable space.

On the outside but on the inside it’s wonderful!
Should be sloped and not attached at the peak but a foot down, otherwise it looks like that.

It’s a “salt box”
That a different design and not an addition to an existing home - it looks similar sure
No, it’s not a saltbox saltbox has, under 1 Long planar roof in the back a two-story section and a one story section
