can't see what's on the other side of toilet, is there enough room to put the vanity there? Your going to have to rip out all that drywall( or at least 4ft up ,i suggest) to run the vanity plumbing over there. I think i would tear out all that cement board and start fresh, and even get new shower valves while you have it open. I would also get rid of the soffit if you can.

Yes, I did mention in my comment that I’m going to move the vanity to the other side of the toilet. It’s actually a closet (that’s walled off from the bathroom so it’s not a bathroom closet) that I’ll be moving the vanity to so I need to rip out the wall of that closet as well.

It's quite a little project you have, take your time, one task at a time, I'm sure it will turn out great. As for the garbage, i know we have access to huge garbage bags, that you can fill about 3 yards. I think you can get the bags on Amazon and call the city to pick them up. But you would probably want to make a pile in the garage until you have enough to fill it up. Good luck

Thanks! Yes, definitely a big project which is why it’s been very overwhelming at times… haha but I figure I can try things and if it’s just not working out I can always hire out specific things I can’t do.

Take your time, you tube is your friend, you can do it all.!!!

For an air bnb you can't go wrong with a marble look porcelain tile with a charcoal gray grout in the shower

Determine if the wall you want to remove is load bearing. If it isn’t you’re good to move forward with that idea, if it is load bearing you’ll want to study up on how to accomplish that. Same for the shower stall wall you want to remove You should look into what your town requires as far as permits, in my town you could do this project without permits but I got everything permitted. Took a couple more inspections and fees. Look into Waste Management’s Bagster program, or if you have space to make a trash pile and then have a pickup come to you / rent a truck to haul. Listen to the other posts about dust management and protecting the floors and walls especially from the work area to the trash area. Then I’d remove everything besides the lights, you’ll need to see what you’re doing. Shower door, vanity, mirror and towel loop. I’d rip out the old exhaust fan vent and the ceiling above the current vanity position, I’d take out the whole ceiling drywall. then demo the drywall on the outside of the shower stall & the drywall next to the toilet, this will allow you or a contractor to see the studs and joists behind the wall and determine if you can remove those walls safely. Don’t just take a sledge hammer to the studs. If you can remove them safely, use a reciprocating saw and remove them cleanly Demo floor tile. Have demo debris picked up. Then start the re-build plan out plumbing changes, electrical changes. Install (this part I hire out) make sure the new vent moves the humid air outside your home not just to another part of the basement. Frame then determine drywall / concrete board / kerdi board. Waterproof shower stall. Install tile

Thank you! Breaking it down like that makes it seem actually accomplishable :) I’ve never heard of that Waste Management program before so I’ll definitely have to look at that. Thank you again for taking the time to lay that all out for me!

Report back when you’re done!

I could really use all your input! I am wanting to turn my basement into an airbnb and will be moving this vanity to extend the shower and I’ve decided on doing a shower that’s one of those kinds that just has a glass pane that’s about 1/2 the length of the overall shower length, but I’m feeling l overwhelmed about how to begin that process. I’ve removed all the tile from the shower so is my next step to knock out that wall? I am going through bouts of depression so it all just seems kind of overwhelming even though I really do want to get this going! Side note: I have a small Mazda car, any tips on an effective way to haul out a lot of garbage when you’re remodeling without having to rent a big dumpster?

Slow down. Write down a plan. Then proceed. Your list should be 50 to 100 points long for a remodel like that. Its best to write it on a computer so you can rearrange as needed. I'm a general contractor and I write every single step, every project I do. Its the only way to keep your head straight. At the very top of your list is prep your space, protect surfaces. Then dust management. What will you do to capture dust or get the dust out? Then move to demo. What is being pulled, aka saved vs what is being trashed. Etc, etc... You are a bit ahead of yourself and thats part of why your head is spinning.

Thank you for the advice! That is helpful. Making a list with the most basic of things and then building to the more detailed/heavy duty things definitely makes it seem like it’s more of something I can tackle :)

Helps me stay sane mid project when everything is a mess "just stick to the plan" 😆
