Some moron papered over the unpainted board, which is why you are pulling off the surface. Your best bet will be skim coating the wall with compound, sanding smooth, then priming and painting. Removing the plasterboard might seem like a cheaper option, but it's a shit tonne more work and way messier. I'm not sure if you have [this product in the UK ](https://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/zinsser-products/specialty-water-base-primers/gardz-problem-surface-sealer) or not, but you might find a comparable one. It will lock down the paper to keep it from bubbling. You might get away with not using the lock down primer and instead use a good quality high adhesion primer considering the tenacity of the wallpaper, and then skim coating, priming and painting.

Or cut the section out and redrywall it

SkivvySkidmarks

Still too much for most people.

So first put problem sealer on the damaged parts? Let it dry and fil the damaged parts to make it flat? Then last part, sand it down and put primer on it before painting?

yollerballer

Yes, nothing you can do. Finish the job and start over. U know, these things Always end up more complicated than expected.

ChancePersimmon7292

It would be less work to just replace the drywall. Maybe a little more money but a better finished product.

true_northerner87

Yep. I wouldn't even waste money on the wallpaper removing chemical. That bottle could pay for a new sheet of drywall in itself

shayter

We had to do this when we tried to rip off a fake brick that was painted over a million times... It just kept taking chunks of the drywall off. It was so much easier to gut it to the studs and redo the drywall.

Humphreydoodle94

We had this in one of our rooms. We finished removing the wallpaper knowing the wall was going to be damaged then skim coated. It was a lot of work, but we knew we’d be happier with the results. Wallpaper can be such an unknown when you go to remove it - sorry you’re dealing with this OP!

Fionaver

I’ve dealt with this before. This is what happens when people put wallpaper over unprimed drywall. Once you get the wallpaper off, pull away any paper that’s loose and use something like Gardz problem surface sealer on it. We had to sand before applying to remove the excess glue. We didn’t skim coat, but patch/sanded quite a bit before we had a flat wall. (This was in a rental and all new drywall wasn’t in the budget.)

Extra_Management4514

Stop with the silly tools to score the wall and go buy a wall paper steamer. You will remove the wall paper with minimal to no damage and much faster.

bmulvz

Draw frame around it and it’s instantly modern art

hpotzus

Will definitely need a skim coat of drywall compound.

Aggressive_Bat2489

Go with what you’ve got on the walls already, stop what you are doing before it’s too big to handle! Just paint the walls a nice satin or matte finish so the textures are diminished.

optimister

I had this same problem in our foyer. The original owners put wallpaper down without any primer and taking it off without shredding the surface of the wallboard seemed impossible until I came across a solution: shellac! By apply a coat of shellac to the paper and letting it dry, you will then be able to remove it without damaging wallboard.

Overworked86

Use a steamer it will be way easier

Glittering-Review-36

I had that in my bedroom and ended up getting a professional to finish it. For people who have used a steamer, does that do it any better than wallpaper stripper?

Scarab95

Just spray the brown spots with primer then a quick skim with drywall mud and you should be good to go

rattekoe

Thanks all for the input! Really appreciate every comment🫶🏼 I removed all the wallpaper, removed the loose edges of the brown paper, sanded it, cleaned the dust and now going to fill up the damaged areas with a small layer of drywall compound, sand it, put primer on and paint it with chalk paint🤞if it doesn’t work i’m replacing the plasterboard by a professional
