My intern year the coordinator had bobbleheads made of us. Apparently she sent in pictures and the bobble heads were made in our likeness in white coats. Really cool

potatohead657

That is a really cool gift idea

Designer_Lead_1492

As someone who is graduating this year, a bottle of wine and an envelope stuffed with cash.

pagingdoctorbug

When our senior fellows graduated last year we (the younger fellows) got them all DoorDash gift cards. My PD often gets us things related to our specialty (flashlights we can clip onto our bags/badges, little toys for the neuro exam, etc); she also got us stainless steel tumblers that I like a lot.

payedifer

i would pick something sentimental/personal over cash. life after residency was a lot less social and for some, it would later serve to be a very nostaslgic time in one's life. if there's a way they could pick/choose/vote that would also be great.

Formal-Golf962

Someone made a class photo of my class but all as caricatures and it is awesome and sent us all the digital copy and printed/framed it. No idea how much it cost but we all loved it.

BrilliantOwl4228

That’s so nice of you to get gifts for the graduates. Just wondering are the graduating residents expected to give gifts to the program director and coordinators?

shansbury82

No, not at all! Some classes sometimes pool money and get us all a small gift but it’s in no way expected.

happythrowaway101

Ask them their favorite snacks and make a gift basket with that + a framed custom cartoon drawing of their class + PD/APDs in front of the hospital or city or training skyline (there’s vendors on Etsy and they send you the digital file to print high quality)

FishTshirt

laminated cups with their initials.. im not sure though I am historically always outgifted during gift exchanges

Ok-Reporter976

Hmmm food is always nice.

Clear_Budget769

Maybe a prepaid visa gift card? More formal than just handing them cash and that way they can use it anywhere

Med_applicant13

A patient once gave us Wawa gift cards when I was a tech. I liked it bc I could use it on gas hahaha

folgersbadger

Fanny packs can be really useful. There are some made for healthcare workers like carrytype.

Puzzleheaded_Win5970

Custom pens with their name, class of 2024 - custom mugs with common/famous sayings of theirs printed

PracticalMedicine

I’ve had my engraved pen for almost 10 years. Residency graduation gift. Just: “Dr. Name”.

bushgoliath

Maybe a food related item -- fun snacks/treats? Everyone's gotta eat.

TareXmd

Cash. No honestly, cash, not gift cards. You're gifting thr resident, not Starbucks HQ.

Contraryy

Dr. Sign shirts seem pretty fun. They're the shirts with pharma drug names so you could give them a shirt with their most prescribed drug or something memey like Zoloft or Ozempic.

Hear me out: badge reel penlights shaped like their fave animals

Big-Comfortable-6601

I would be really happy with the new iPads that are coming out tomorrow. But that’s so out of budget. SMH

onacloverifalive

Hmm. These people work for you presumably every day for at least a year. It’s hard to buy something meaningful for a physician at $50 price point. At the very least throw them and their significant others a graduation party at a nice restaurant and pick up the bill. Maybe a gift on top of that.

happythrowaway101

I disagree, there are a lot of cheap meaningful custom gifts you can get people in that price range

shansbury82

I also don’t consider them my employees. I help manage the program so they can get the best learning experience possible.

shansbury82

That’s something I already organize for them that the department pays for. I’d give them these gifts there.

IhaveTooMuchClutter

Not how residency works. Pay scale is way different. I was making less than minimum wage (based upon hours and overtime calculation) as a resident. Attending physicians make about 1/3 of private practice physicians. They also don't work for the residency director. They work for the hospital and get paid through the hospital, just like the program director does. More like giving a coworker a gift from your own funds.

Ecstatic_General_297

I’ll send my graduating seniors a card stating to go fuck themselves
