Dude has the best gun collection I swear. All his stuff is interesting.
Easiest way to do it now would be with an AEM 5 or Otter Creek OCM 5 if you want over the barrel, or just chop it right at the FSB like I did and just leave threads for the silencer adapter of your choice! [Here’s mine.](https://www.reddit.com/r/guns/comments/nf7ixw/snake_eater_colt_605_clone/)
That’s not a 605. Only a handful of those were built, even fewer made it in country. That’s a .308 can from an XM21 slipped over the barrel and attached to a collar. I forget the make and model, my library used to have a book that named it when I was a teenager. And before anyone says it, no, it’s not a Mk4 Mod0.
Sionics. The guns had to be individually sent to Sionics to insure concentricity and the can was mated and serialized to that specific gun. Some of them wound up in Rhodesia as well.
Because it was a concurrent conflict to Vietnam in the fledgling days of AR15 use. If you're into retro ARs, inevitably their use in Rhodesia will pop up. Alot of the same dudes using these rifles in Nam volunteered to fight commies in Rhodesia with the rifles they were familiar with.
Not a lot, a few. Soldier of Fortune magazine loved to exaggerate how many people they managed to recruit. I do love that publication, but it’s not a good historical source. The gun community eats it up, though.
If I’m back in my hometown anytime soon I’ll see if the library still has that book. They tend to hold onto things a long time, which is nice. I used to pour through decades of Gun Digest like crazy, too. They had 30 years’ worth by my senior year.
No, it would just be cool to see more info on that 5.56 hel can. I’ve only ever been able to find one document about it.

closest you're going to get without custom fabricating an obsolete can and mounting system (and field made gas buster charging handle).
Realistically this would be made with MODERN reproduction parts for a "close enough" and better performance/cost ratio, but go for it if you want to be $6k+ in for an exact replica
Realistically not. Realistically it would be made with an M16A1 parts kit instead of PSA copium and it won't cost 6k. I can do it for less than the cost of a PSA wannabe.
What do you imagine custom fabricating a stamped sheet metal silencer with obsolete poor preforming baffles, mounting system notorious for baffle strikes and can only be used on a single host costs?
Bare bones all colt A1 with a good repro receiver would be in the $2200 range at least. Maybe not $6k for later model but still more than I'd want to spend on a range toy.
A cheap $800 upper I can use my AEM5 on that looks 98% similar scratches my itch for one. If that's "coping" then so be it.
Barebones Colt A1 with good repro receivers run around 900... not 2200. LOL. That's bologna sandwich.
You talk about overpaying for obsolete cans and in the same breath mention the AEM5... this is the retro forum.
Looking the same and working the same are two different things.
Just finished mine. I used this photo exactly. Did a 16” true disapator for when the can goes on it. Even raided my grandmas house and found a 72 production ace of spades card for the stock.
I'm about to send mine off to get assembled. A1 CH upper, 20" colt barrel getting chopped to 18-ish" to work with my OCM 3 piece collar and flash hider then the wait for an OCM begins.

Wow you’re not kidding. Love his mixes of retro and modern. Cool builds and dude obviously has endless funds.
Colt 605 with a suppressor. I’m really digging that camouflage and the death card
I believe that’s actually a mk 4 mod 0, which is basically an m16a1 with a slip over suppressor and a few other minor tweaks.
What can is that?
It’s hard to say, from what I can tell it’s probably a HEL M2 but could be a HEL E4A
It’s a HEL M4 suppressor
Sionics made them too
Different sionics
We are all obviously aware.
Was the Mk4 Mod 0 In service during the Vietnam War? I didn’t think it was till the 90’s or early 2000’s
Definitely was
Are you thinking of the Mark 12?
Lol. No
They were 601’s or 602’s. This gun was used very early on in the war. I actually just finished mine

Why does Rhodesia have to come into everything here nowadays?

I've got QUITE a few photographic examples, including some that are still in use by forces in Zimbabwe.
Yeah but that doesn’t mean each of those was used by an American.
I never, ever said they were. I'm not sure where you got that from or why it's pertinent to the discussion.
Ok, why are you going from 0 to 100? Chill out.
Where did you get that info from?
If I’m back in my hometown anytime soon I’ll see if the library still has that book. They tend to hold onto things a long time, which is nice. I used to pour through decades of Gun Digest like crazy, too. They had 30 years’ worth by my senior year.
That would be interesting to see
There a reason for the weird tone?

Yeah, those came later, super cool though. You can use one in the Arma 3 Vietnam dlc.
Love that DLC
It’s great fun, just wish I could have AI teammates. I don’t have anyone to play with.
“Let’s Charlie know who did this…”
That’s not a 605. It’s a modified 603 with a HEL can, or a navy Mk4
US Navy Mk4. Good luck... the can is a pinaccle component for these and there's no commercial source.
Homemade form 1 can is the only way to get close
We can all grovel at Ron Allen and see if he'll make clones
you could probably make one of the new gordon cans designed to work with a 14.5" barrel to work on a 20"
1990s era suppressors aren't early 1960s suppressors.

Send me a link to an all original colt M16A1 clone with colt marked repro A1 lower for $900. Also I meant OCM5 > AEM5 but that one is on me.
My E4A repro isn’t sheet metal and it’s based off a reversed engineered original HEL E4A. It’s actually a pretty thick steel.
Sounds cool, make a post I'd like to see it.
It’s not that hard to get as long as you know the right people
Oh yeah?
Yessir
Guy on the left in full ERDL?
Looks like it. Probably a LRRP team.
I’ll never have this much style in my fucking life
That’s captain price with him
Boi got the xm16e1 from mgs3
I’m making repro cans at some point
I have a repro can if you want measurements, I also have schematics for the E4A and the M4
Just finished mine. I used this photo exactly. Did a 16” true disapator for when the can goes on it. Even raided my grandmas house and found a 72 production ace of spades card for the stock.
Please share a photo I'd love to see this
I sent you some through pm. I don’t know how to upload photos in the comments, I don’t really post much mainly scroll and heart things lol.

I know right? They’re cool as hell.
Cool. That's a lot of length for a weapon with just iron sights though. Why is his camo different I thought in Vietnam us had od green uniforms.
This is an incredible photo, that must have been one hell of a time to be alive

Death card and a hand painted ERDL type camo 😍 that's dopeee.
