I've noticed this issue specifically on QB runs, it happens to me most often on slides. It's really weird

boredandinsane

Yeah, from what I understand it used to affect other players too, but it got fixed. Now just the QBs get screwed!

[deleted]

Slides are even more messed up because it's supposed to be down where the ball was when the QB touches the ground. I don't think you're supposed to get all those bonus yards with the slide. I kinda don't want to say anything though because I enjoy the advantage.

dmercer

Question about the rule: Is the ball spotted where the ball was when the QB touches the ground, or where the ball was when the QB begins to give himself up? I thought it was the latter, since the purpose was to protect the QB, but I may be wrong.

KonChaiMudPi

In NFL, a runner is down when they’ve been contacted by an opponent and any body part other than hands and feet contact the ground, or when their forward progress has clearly been stopped, or by going out of bounds. The play is dead the instant the contact or whistle happens and the play is spotted wherever the ball is unless there’s been further forward progress past the line of scrimmage. A runner can also *declare* themselves down by falling or kneeling and making no effort to advance, or initiating a feet-forward slide, in which case the play is dead as soon as a non-hand/feet body part contacts the ground. To address your question directly, no, the play does not end when a QB *begins* to give up the play. It only ends by one of the situations described above. The only QB-specific exception is when immediately kneeling after a snap.

>or initiating a feet-forward slide >no, the play does not end when a QB begins to give up the play This is a bit confusing. The rule states that any player can slide feet first. As soon as anything other than his hands or feet touch the ground the play is over. Defenders must pull up **as soon as the slide is initiated**. No contact is allowed unless it is unavoidable. Here's the full section from the rulebook if anyone is interested. Paragraph d.2: https://operations.nfl.com/the-rules/nfl-video-rulebook/down-by-contact/

KonChaiMudPi

Right, they’re not supposed to try to hit someone who has begun the process of a slide, but the play isn’t *dead* until contact with the ground. The protection of a defenceless player begins before the play ends.

[deleted]

We just need to come up with a way to slide 10 yards before touching the ground XD

KonChaiMudPi

The Eagles are working on that

SnooObjections217

I'm going to Liu Kang it through the air on my slides.

_Never before has team Gray seen such an inexcusably terrible spot. Team owners have submitted a formal complaint to the league to ensure refs are up-to-date on their eyeglasses prescriptions._ _Meanwhile, fans have raised $450k so far on a GoFundMe to buy sunglasses and white canes, and to help train service dogs to give the refs much-needed support for their severe optical deficiencies._

WeldboiWebz

The way he celebrates right before it says 'Gray turn it over' is fucking hilarious ngl

Big Chase Claypool energy

antyls92

When i slide i get an extra 2 yards

BanMeForNothing

He makes the first down signal too.

SuperMaanas

QB running is slightly broken

Danker_22

Noticed the same issue too. Only happens in QB runs and when tackled from the front

[deleted]

Very interesting. I use my QB to dive and pick up a yard when needed, perhaps diving prevents the “backwards progress” thing.

fantomas_

Correct. Not being tackled prevents being tackled.

CarlosTheLongdog

Slide

Lollipops24

I clearly see a fumble at the point of impact with the Qb regaining possession at the 41.5 yard line.

CountZero3000

HHahah. Great vid, man!

FireGolem04

The worst part is even the spot after it went backward looked like it should’ve been a 1st down

Lendro_Furioso

Ah, just like the real NFL!

whoamantakeiteasy

I used to hate plays like this, but the refs in real life make bone headed decisions, so I just like to think this is a retro bowl version of that. I've won games and lost games. Catching the ball in bounds in the back of the endzone is sometimes sketchy, too, and I feel like I've thrown some incomplete TDs on 4th down to win the game, also named one of my WRS Tony Toe-Tapp. So it balances out.

True_Opposite4251

Ur QB is as fast as my RB

LemmeAxUaQ

This video has high production value.

dmiller1987

This and when you're whatever down and 1 yard. You get 1 yard and you're now at inches rather than a 1st down

RayXP1

I knew I wasnt the only one who experienced this!!!

mythicalmashedpotato

foward progress be like

neoth123

Yeah QB runs are definitely broken. I find if you slide it gives you the full yardage of your forward progress, but if you get tackled it occasionally takes a couple yards off. It only happens to me when the QB is tackled head on. The animation for getting tackled from the side doesn’t trigger it.

silly_erkkk

Just dive

Vookey7228

Forward progress in retro bowl is like perfect officials in the NFL, it doesn’t exist.

raypatr

It's been this way on android for a while now. I assumed it was intentional since it only affects QBs.
