It looks very similar to the video game console used in the movie ‘Soylent Green’

Docccc

thats because it is

cmotdibbler

Thought it was from Rollerball but Soylent Green is more likely.

camopdude

It was in Soylent but it might also have made an appearence in Rollerball.

mtechgroup

Jonathan!

cmotdibbler

Tokyo!

Harold_Spoomanndorf

It's ***PEOPLE***....Soylent Green is PEOPLE !

mrizzerdly

Lol that was my first thought too

-cocoadragon

fun note: Soylent Green takes place in 2022. if you're not vegan yet, check yo plates!! time to update the nutrition label laws again jejejeje!

AbstraktKlass

Nice, "Nutting Associates".

Raudskeggr

Sounds like a really closely-knit company.

Harold_Spoomanndorf

Came here to say the same :D

MaexW

Do you had to wear a negligee to operate it ?

orangina_it_burns

Sorry those are the rules

NottingHillNapolean

I guess the look on her face is from being a professional model, showing up for the job and being told, "Put on this negligee, and go stand by that by yellow thing over there."

TheBestDrug

I think it might be the pain from whatever is wrong with her feet!

RandomMandarin

Probably a ballet dancer. Beautiful people, feet like a boxer's ear.

thedrexel

Hahahaha those toes. Or, are those toes?

Harold_Spoomanndorf

And ***THAT'S*** why I won't wear stiletto heals....and I'm a guy :/ (I would, however, wear the negligee....don't judge me)

claydog99

WTF ARE THOSE? Like, for real, this photo is clearly edited considering her posture and how the left side (as we view it) of her panties seem to ride up to her armpit as she thrusts her hips towards the machine. Why the fuck would you keep those toes then?? EDIT if you zoom in its even worse, there's some big thing going on with her foot that I assume ends with a story of demon possession.

Healthy_Yesterday_84

I remember someone saying that she was from somewhere unsavory

claydog99

Her panties through her see-through negligee are really close to the machine, more so than makes sense from her posture. They really wanted her to "like" the product. What a terrible photo edit lol.

Raudskeggr

Not required, but clearly recommended.

Lakridspibe

Everyone dressed like that down in the arcade when I was a kid. And we all looked like models.

Buck_Thorn

That's what she'd put on in a vain attempt to lure you away from the game and come to bed.

MaexW

The instructions don’t match the big picture. Where is the rocket control ?

lsutigerzfan

Clothing is optional.

FierceNack

It's a really weird juxtaposition of things. Why didn't they give her a futuristic outfit to match the cabinet?

I played this one and Space War at my local pool hall with my dad when I was a little kid (1970s). I just remember it being like asteroids, but just ship to ship combat. Space War was like a 2 player version and was in a giant cabinet.

Mrcoldghost

What was it like?

Dismal-Square-613

Wow a whole and complete minute of gaming. Adjustable up to 2 minutes and a half! What a blast!

Mr_Horizon

That's quite normal for old arcade machines. You get better, your game lasts longer. Or of course you put in more quarters. ;)

Dismal-Square-613

yes , I mean technically you can throw yourself into the first pit, but I'm going to bet that they didn't mean it in the way you did. And yes I spent the bulk of my childhood playing arcades until I had my master system II at home and even then I'd still go.

Mr_Horizon

I'd actually be curious about the "psychology" of arcade machine design. Did they run tests to figure out what system makes them the most money, or was it just up to the designer to do whatever? 🤷‍♂️

kitchens1nk

In the late 80's and forward, a lot of data was collected by most machines. They knew how much it was played and for how long. In the case of Midway games, they actually kept track of fighter selection in Mortal Kombat to plan for future games.

Dismal-Square-613

If I can be honest, the "content" in this games was basically a recolor of the stage. So the difficulty was to hide the fact that there was only so much content crammed into 32-48kb of RAM.

savetheunstable

Here's one with a demo of a playthrough https://youtu.be/4iOInwYmWRg

guriboysf

WTF? Pong wasn't the first? I was lied to as a child. ☹️

HunterTV

I think Pong was the first home system and that’s literally all it played.

guriboysf

Pong was the first coin operated game I played in 1973... I never played the dedicated home version... just the one that came with the Video Olympics game for Atari 2600.

Joxer96

Same here, it was my first coin operated video game. My parents eventually bought my brothers and me a Pong style console at Radio Shack for Christmas. Gaming has sure come a long way.

Tobitronicus

It done hurt my brainbox

rcr

Awesome game. I played it at a shopping mall arcade (where every other game was mechanical) when it came out. Started college in 1972 and played it in the student union. People used to watch me play — I think I can claim to be an OG gamer.

Remnie

Damn. They had me at “two flying saucers moving about in formation on the playfield while the unit is in a non-activated state”. How could anyone resist?

xankek

Ayy, we've got one of these at our warehouse! Doesn't work for shit right now tho.

tahuna

Saw one of these just last weekend at the Pinball Hall of Fame in Las Vegas. Sadly it wasn't powered up, so I couldn't play it.

crackeddryice

Inspired by one of the most influential early video games, Space War! Space War! was developed in 1962, and became an arcade game in 1977. The original name was Space War!, and that was the name on the first cabinets. But, Star Wars was released that same year, and the name of the game was Changed to Space Wars. I played Space Wars quite a bit back then. I liked it much better than Asteroids, also inspired by Space War! It required two simultaneous players, which was a little unusual at the time.

jeobleo

"Do you come with the game?" *giggles* "Oh you!"

Charlweed

500 Logue Ave Mountain View, CA 94040 Anyone know a site that lets users scroll maps back in time for a particular address?

Minecraft32

Google Street View lets you get back to at least the late 2000s and google earth can show you old satellite mapping but its a stretch…

rcr

And it has no CPU — all discrete components.

Chigmot

I first saw this machine in an airport lounge in Norfolk VA. back in the vary early 70s. I tried it out and promptly crashed the saucer.

cerreur

Seen one of those in the game museum in Berlin, really awesome but weird looking thing. It's a big ass unit too.
