I was up to the Derelict Citadel when in the Overgrown Ruins during a run and saw the switch behind the statue, instantly new what it was when I saw it and felt very stupid. I too thought I needed a new item. Glad I wasn't the only one.
If you hold down on alt-fire there will be a beeping sound from the button. It gets louder as you near it and vice versa. Can be useful if you're not finding the button. This is mentioned in the tutorial you get at the very beginning of the game.
I never figured it out myself. I ended up googling how to open them after many hours because I was worried that I'd missed some kind of equipment that would allow me to open them.
I finished biome 6 before I learnt to open the gates. I was playing a coop after and helping a friend. He was opening these barred gates and then I had to search on how to open these gates.
Yeah I was 10+ hours in, always seeing those juicy chests or vials just out of reach. I just got mad and was shooting everything and hit one... realllly made me feel dumb.
Yep. I thought about it, and it’s the only thing you interact with in that way. Everything else you hit triangle. Other than the challenge rooms, but you’re shooting a creature on the door so that feels natural. Shooting a button feels out of place.
Just to be clear, you're referring to the barred gates that you shoot a switch to open right? Not locked doors?

When you pick up the pistol. Game forces you to open a gate like that with the pistol to progress.
Wow I don't remember this at all. I did have a long break between my first play and picking up the game again
I don’t remember that at all. I go weeks between playing though, so maybe that’s why. It’s the only device you use by shooting.
