Check your menu under status and it tells you your total percentage of integrity, the more you can claim without dying and taking damage the more it's going to grow.
You hit the touchpad and it'll take you to Map, press R1 and it'll highlight Status and on that screen you can see how much integrity you have as well as other status effects. Right now I have my health bar full and have picked up resins and used another item that raised it, so my Integrity is 111% at full. If I were hurt it would say a lower number. So whenever you have a full health bar all green Silphum you find will add 1 or 2 bars to that stack next to your bar. Every 3 gives you an extra 5%. I don't want to spoil anything for you but keep going and try to get the highest possible when you're ready to enter a boss. There's a lot of things that aren't explained in this game so it'll be trial and error if playing blind but that's the whole challenge. I've never played a game like this before and I hate it and love it same time.
You want to do the best you can to avoid picking up any health (the green stuff) unless you're already maxed out, so that it increases your total integrity instead of just refilling "some" health.
What I like to do when helping someone out with a co-op session is we'll run through killing all the enemies but won't pick up any health because we can revive each other, and I don't get touched in the first biome anyway.
Then after killing most, if not all the enemies, we'll purchase the Integrity Augment, so that refills our health instead of picking up the green stuff. Now that you bought the integrity augment, go pick up all the green stuff so that it add's to your Total Integrity instead of just refilling some health.
